Master really was just built different compared to those other three.’
Fully replicating Hyeokryeon Il-hwi's feat of multi-tasking ultimate techniques was still impossible for him.
But that was fine. A completely different idea had just popped into his head.
The countless battles he'd witnessed and fought came flooding back without pause. Riding this high of martial enlightenment, Il-mok fixed his mind back onto the Ascension Sword.
It streaked once more toward Talib, who was hastily staunching the wound in his side.
"DAMN YOU!!"
Talib roared and swung his saber, but just as the saber and the Ascension Sword were about to collide, Talib's pupils dilated all over again.
"What?!"
Flowing along the blade of the flying sword was violet Qi crackling with the sound of thunder.
Il-mok had figured that since the sword was connected to his mind via Sword Kinesis, why limit himself to just steering it with Demonic Qi?
And so was born a flying sword wreathed in Soul-Annihilating Sword Thunder.
The sight jolted Talib so badly that he crammed all of his willpower and aether into his saber.
The moment Soul-Annihilating Sword Thunder met Talib's blade—
BZZZT!
—That familiar noise of thousands of birds taking flight at the same time sang in Il-mok’s ears.
"Allah save me!!"
And before the eyes of a man crying out to his god, the Sword Thunder detonated.
By combining his Sword Kinesis with his three distinct energies, Il-mok had essentially invented a remote-controlled World-Destroying Primordial Jade Palm.

Meanwhile, as carnage consumed all four walls of the fortress, an iron mace came whistling toward Jin Hayeon's face.
Swoosh!
It had been like this from the very first exchange with the man wielding it. He made a show of blatantly going for her face, and when he wasn't aiming for her head, he would deliberately swing his mace at anything but vital points such as her chest, backside, or hem of her trousers.
His scheme was transparent enough to her.
He was attempting to exploit the natural aversion women had to their clothes being torn and their bare skin exposed.
The mace-wielding warrior, Gulat, felt no shame whatsoever. This was a warzone; whoever survived was in the right. The concept of fighting fair was a fairy tale for dead men.
CLANG!!
But despite the blatantly sleazy assault, Jin Hayeon's expression never so much as flickered.
She swatted aside Gulat's mace with perfect indifference, doing nothing but watching for her chance to slip inside his guard.
She had braced herself for this kind of thing long ago. She wasn't fool enough to expect courteous treatment on a battlefield.
If anything, her attention was fixed on something other than Gulat's mace.
'Please. Just hold on a little longer, husband.'
She had no leisure to look away from Gulat, but the shockwaves of Il-mok's clash with the Great General kept rolling in one after another.
She knew Il-mok so well that she could read the situation from the Qi fluctuations alone.
And right now, that feedback was telling her he was steadily losing ground.
Even so, she didn't let panic force her into a dumb mistake.
CLANG!
She kept batting the mace aside while calmly biding her time.
Or at least she was trying to.
She knew from harsh experience that doing one's best and acting out of impatience were two entirely different things.
Back when she was still a relatively inexperienced disciple in the Hall of the Demonic Way, she had once allowed herself to be swayed by jealousy, and she had learned her lesson well.
CLANG!
Time and again, she knocked away Gulat's mace. Even in moments when she could simply have dodged, she chose to strike the Force Qi-wreathed weapon head-on.
The muscles and joints in her palms screamed in protest, and faint traces of blood began to seep from her skin.
But those didn't matter to her.
With every single collision, she was covertly injecting her Yin Qi directly into his heavy mace.
‘Just a little more.’
From a certain point onward, whenever Gulat let out a battle cry—
"HAAA!"
—A puff of frosty white breath would escape his lips.
Despite the scorching desert sun beating down on them, he was exhaling as if standing in the dead of winter.
Suddenly, another massive shockwave from Il-mok and Talib’s duel rolled over her.
'The rhythm has changed.'
The Qi fluctuations had changed. It was no longer a one-sided rout.
Jin Hayeon smiled faintly.
'That's my husband for you.'
The anxiety she'd been fighting down finally melted away.
However, she did not lower her guard.
Now, she simply had to exterminate this insect of a man as quickly as possible so she could go assist her beloved.
Right then, Gulat caught her smiling, and his face twisted into an ugly scowl.
"You dare laugh at me, you little bitch?!"
He had completely underestimated her from the start.
At first, he hadn't even intended to kill her. His grand strategy had been to rip up her clothes and terrorize her into submission before having his fun with her once the city fell.
But the longer the fight dragged on, the more cold aether had quietly accumulated inside his body. That chill carried the distinct signature of this woman before him.
But by the time he realized it, it was already too late.
He realized far too late that even if he had fought with his absolute full strength from the very beginning, defeating this woman would have been an incredibly difficult task.
His ego was bruised from this realization.
He had been a champion of his region; there wasn't a single man in his entire region who could even look him in the eye.
But here he was, getting outplayed by a mere woman.
Worse, she had the nerve to stand there and mock him!
"No more playing nice!!" Gulat bellowed.
He hauled up every last reserve of aether he'd been holding back in case the fight dragged on. The Force Qi layered over his mace grew denser, and the weapon hurtled toward her at a terrifying velocity. The air shredded in its wake, whipping up a fierce gale.
Even with an incoming storm right at her face, Jin Hayeon’s face remained still. The bones and joints in her wrist screamed in protest, but she didn't flinch.
And before long—
'Now.'
The moment she'd been waiting for arrived.
"Huu—"
With his lungs worked to the limit from his rampage, Gulat’s breath devolved into ragged pants mid-swing. Frost stormed out of his mouth with each gasp, and the dose of Yin Qi that Jin Hayeon had fed him finally come to effect.
For the space of a heartbeat, Gulat's body simply stopped.
He scrambled his aether into motion to force the invading chill out of his body, but the predator watching for its chance did not miss that fleeting instant.
Grab.
Jin Hayeon was already a step inside his guard.
Her left hand clamped around the mace's chain, and she then poured a massive wave of Yin Qi into the chain.
The chain's surface froze in the blink of an eye, and the cold drilled upward through the mace's handle.
Within seconds, the hand Gulat used to grip the weapon was frozen solid into the iron.
"FUCK—!!"
Gulat tried his best to force the Yin Qi out, but Jin Hayeon just kept her iron grip on the chain and took one more step forward.
“!!!”
Realizing she was suddenly right inside his guard, Gulat desperately tried to throw a knee.
Or at least, his brain told him to.
His body was now too stiff to properly obey his brain.
Jin Hayeon's right palm slammed into his chest.
CRACK!
His armor shattered like a cheap vase, and her palm pressed flush against his chest.
"Khh…"
As his heart slowly froze over, Gulat let out a strangled groan.
She held her hand there for just a few seconds, but for Gulat, it felt like a cold knife was plunged directly into his heart.
"Huu..."
When Jin Hayeon withdrew her hand and exhaled a breath of frost and withdrew her hand. Gulat's frozen corpse toppled straight to the ground.
Thud.
Without rest, she immediately spun around to scan the battlefield for Il-mok.
It was then that a strange sight caught her eye.
Il-mok was standing completely still, glaring like a statue at something in the distance. When she followed his gaze, she found Great General Talib there.
"Soul-Annihilating Sword Thunder?"
The Ascension Sword was currently flying straight at Talib completely on its own.
Not long after, the flying sword smashed into Talib’s saber.
KABOOM!!!!
A blinding flash of light instantly painted the sky white.
Well acquainted with the World-Destroying Primordial Jade Palm, she hurriedly shielded her eyes and ears.
When the dust finally settled and she peeked back over, she saw the Great General left in dire condition.
Severe burns and gruesome lacerations covered his entire body, and a continuous stream of dark blood poured from his mouth, indicating severe internal injuries.
It was a wonder he was alive at all.
Then the fanatics of Allah nearby began screaming.
"T-the Great General is in danger!!"
"Protect the Great General!!"
They threw themselves toward their commander.
Jin Hayeon couldn't understand a single word of their language, but she could guess well enough what they were trying to do.
And it was equally obvious what she had to do next.
"Stay put!!"
Yin Qi blasted out along her twin palms, blasting a freezing blizzard directly into the mob of soldiers charging in to save their supreme commander.
"Husband!! I'll hold them back!"
Il-mok sprang into motion and shouted back, "I'm counting on you!"
The Ascension Sword came flying into his hand, but the steel then let out a sharp ring to him. It was practically begging him to stop using it so roughly.
And honestly had every right to complain.
The Ascension Sword was a sword that could rightly be called a Divine Sword, but his callous use had left its edge missing in a dozen places.
The only reason it survived his callous use was that Il-mok had used his telekinesis to wrap the blade in a protective layer of Force Qi immediately after detonating the Sword Thunder.
Otherwise, the damage would have been far worse.
Hearing his sword's tantrum, Il-mok smiled faintly.
'Sorry, I'll let you drink your fill of blood.'
Since it was technically a Demonic Sword, he figured he didn't even need to take it to a blacksmith. If he just kept murdering people with it, the blade would eventually heal itself.
Slash!
Without breaking stride, Il-mok effortlessly butchered the soldiers who had managed to dodge Jin Hayeon’s White Hand Demonic Art.
With a few more stried, Il-mok finally stood within arm's reach of the Great General himself.
"HAH!"
Half-dead as he was, Talib swung his saber.
CLANG!!
Still, the ensuing exchange left the General stumbling backward and vomiting blood.
Il-mok brought his sword down for the execution, but the man refused to die so easily.
The Great General somehow raised his saber once again and blocked that strike.
CLANG!
And at the moment their sword and saber collided, Il-mok drew up the last of his Yin and Yang Qi.
The Ascension Sword cried out again, and the violet blade took form.
SLASH!!
A wet sound of metal and meat being sheared apart rang out, and the cleaved corpse of the Great General slumped apart.
Jong-ri Chu's roar burst from the upper wall.
"The enemy commander is dead!! The Grand Preceptor has slain the enemy commander!!!"
Hearing the glorious news, the soldiers of the Hong Dynasty erupted into a frenzy.
"The Grand Preceptor is ever victorious!!"
"Rise and smite the wicked!!"
"O brethren, cleansed of all sin!!"
Chaotic as the battlefield was, their shouts drowned out everything else.
Slash!
Through it all, Il-mok kept swinging his sword at the enemy soldiers remaining around him.
"YEAAHH!!"
"The Grand Preceptor fights beside us!!"
And the morale of the Hong Dynasty's soldiers soared without limit.
Naturally, news of the Great General's death spread through the Khalas Empire's army as well.
Way back in the rear command camp, the Great General's adjutant stood with a blank face.
With his sight enhanced by ether, he had watched every detail of the Great General's death.
The Greatest Warrior of the Empire.
The commander he had believed in and followed.
Dead.
His brain was completely paralyzed.
As he stood there in a daze, the frantic screaming of his subordinate officers finally snapped him back to reality.
"Y- your orders! Please, give us your orders!!"
"What do we do now?!"
What did they mean, what to do?
The Great General is dead.
He turned his gaze forward again and saw his men being slaughtered one-sidedly by the Avatar of the Evil God.
"R- retreat!! W- we fall back first, and decide after that!"
The adjutant's desperate shout rippled outward in an instant.
Drums and horns ordering retreat sounded from every quarter.
The fanatics of Allah who had been gripped by the madness called faith began to flee with terror written across their faces. Not a single trace of their initial disciplined formation remained. In their desperate bid to survive, they trampled and shoved their own comrades aside.
As they fled in broken formations, a relentless barrage of arrows and artillery fire rained down upon their exposed backs.
BOOM!!
In the end, the losses they suffered during the retreat were far more devastating than the losses they had taken during the actual siege.
"W-we've won!"
"We actually won!!"
Ohalak and James cheered at the sight of the fleeing soldiers.
They were about to share their joy with Jong-ri Chu when a bizarre sight immediately greeted them.
Jong-ri Chu, who moments ago had been commanding the battle like a man possessed, was now sitting in a lotus position.
And to make it weirder, he was floating a few inches off the ground.
"Huh?"
A storm of Qi began to whirl around his body.
With his mind finally achieving Transcendence, his flesh and bones had begun the process of rebuilding themselves.
"W-we must stand guard for him!"
"Protect the Vice-Minister!!"
While Ohalak and James were running around making a fuss, they suddenly realized that the battlefield had gone silent.
It felt like no one else on the wall was paying a single ounce of attention to them or Jong-ri Chu’s bizarre phenomenon.
Puzzled, Ohalak and James turned their heads.
Every soldier on the wall was staring at the same point in the distance.
Following the crowd's gaze, the translators looked over past the half-destroyed temporary barricade and onto the ground where catastrophic battle had raged on moments ago.
There stood the Grand Preceptor and Jin Hayeon, whom everyone had assumed would be off pursuing the routed enemy.
But that hardly mattered.
What mattered was the Grand Preceptor's condition.
Like Jong-ri Chu, his body was floating in the air.
But there the resemblance ended.
Unlike the Vice Minister, he wasn't meditating in some stiff lotus pose.
He hung suspended with arms and legs spread loosely, utterly at ease as if drifting on the surface of water.
Vmmm.
Around his body, a storm of three different energies swirled and intertwined with each other before giving birth to a radiant light.
