Just as Narendra realized the situation had gone completely off the rails, a man walked leisurely toward the bow with relaxed steps.

It was the man Narendra knew to be the leader of the Heavenly Light Merchant Guild.

Standing alone at the front, he pressed his middle finger and thumb together, then snapped his fingers.

With that simple gesture, an orb of light streaked across the water toward the enemy fleet.

It was mesmerizing, but Narendra was too busy wetting himself to appreciate the view, especially with fifty cannon barrels trained on them.

The moment the sphere of light struck one of the enemy ships, an explosive sound unlike anything Narendra had ever heard assaulted his ears.

BOOM!

Narendra slammed his hands over his ears as a deafening screech tore through the air, leaving behind shrill rings inside his head.

When he lifted his head to see the situation, he saw the half-destroyed ship beginning to sink.

"B-by the gods..."

Before his brain could even process the horror, another catastrophic blast ripped the sky apart.

BOOM!

He whipped his head around to see another ship with its midsection blown apart.

Only then did shouts rise from the Portuguese vessels. Frantic screams echoed across the water as the three surviving ships panic-fired their broadsides in a blind frenzy of smoke and iron.

BOOM!

Correction: only two ships actually had the chance to fire their cannons. The third exploded right in the middle of its broadside.

BOOM!

Another harmless-looking bead of light had found its mark.

As massive iron balls flew through the air, Narendra stared at the man at the bow with his jaw hanging open.

The man was cocking his fingers back for another shot.

'That isn't a human being. There is no way in hell that thing is human!'

Blowing up a naval warship with a casual finger flick was an ability far beyond the realm of humanity.

To Narendra's eyes, that man was not human.

Then what was he?

What else could destroy an armada with a wave of his hand?

"Lord Shiva! It's Lord Shiva! The Destroyer has taken mortal form!"

Right as Narendra was having a full-blown religious awakening and screaming his lungs out, the crew from the Heavenly Light Merchant Guild sprang into action.

Whoosh!

Jin Hayeon launched herself into the air, forming an ice wall with her Yin Qi to block incoming cannonballs. At the same time, Jong-ri Chu also swung his sword in various directions to scatter Force Qi and intercept other projectiles.

Not to be outdone, Jeong Hyeon drew her spear-like arrow and let it soar.

CLANG!

The enormous arrow wrapped in Force Qi collided with a cannonball in midair, producing an intense metallic screech.

Other warriors of the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult also leaped about, blocking cannonballs or deflecting the scattered arrows and small metal projectiles.

And right as the defensive net completely swallowed the barrage, another massive roar rolled across the water.

BOOM!

Warship number four was officially a reef.

As Narendra and the Shudra sailors stood transfixed by the terrifying martial prowess of those they'd thought were merely merchants and servants, yet another strange sight entered Narendra's vision.

A person was flying through the sky.

Actually, scratch that, he was walking in the sky.

The man he'd identified as Lord Shiva's manifestation was walking through empty air at tremendous speed toward the last remaining ship.

Watching a man casually walk across the open sky, the sailors aboard the Portuguese flagship were scared out of their wits. A handful among them managed to recover enough presence of mind to raise their weapons and take aim at him.

Bang!

A modest pop sounded across the water, followed by a handful of lead pellets whistling through the breeze. Between the smoothbore inaccuracy and the gunners shivering in their boots, most of the shots splashed harmlessly into the ocean. The two that did fly accurately toward Il-mok were casually swatted away like mosquitoes by his bare hands.

'Hmm. They do have firearms, but they're certainly nothing compared to modern ones.'

Still, it wasn't something to completely dismiss.

Technology kept marching forward, while raising a Peak Realm martial artist took at least a decade. That decade would be filled with sweat and blood; compared to the grueling martial discipline, anyone could learn to handle a gun with just a few days of practice.

While he was reflecting upon the future of firearms, a colossal ball of flame came hurtling toward his face.

'Sorcery? Or should I call it magic?'

Il-mok had already sensed the energy swirling around a man holding a strange staff.

When he'd destroyed the ships in succession earlier, he'd felt a similar energy from the third vessel.

A barrier of energy had formed in front of that ship, but it couldn't withstand the power of the miniature World-Destroying Primordial Jade Palm and had burst instantly without making much difference.

This time was no different.

Slash!

Il-mok lightly swung the Ascension Sword and split the fireball.

Moments later, he descended onto the ship with light steps.

Tap.

The Portuguese shouted at Il-mok.

Naturally, he could not understand a word of it.

"I can just ask James later."

If he wanted a civil conversation, he needed to subdue them by any means necessary.

A wave of energy flowed out from Il-mok's body, enveloping the entire remaining vessel.

The Heavenly Demon Sovereign Stride.

The Portuguese who had been aiming their weapons at Il-mok began to crumple under the horrific pressure crushing down on their entire bodies.

"Gaaahk..."

As if even breathing had become a struggle, they let out strangled groans before collapsing one by one.

Before long, every last enemy aboard the ship lay sprawled across the deck.

***

"All clear over here!"

Infused with internal energy, Il-mok's voice boomed across the water, prompting the three merchant vessels from Hong to pull alongside the captured flagship. When the remaining crews scrambled over the board, they found an entire enemy warship full of twitching privateers.

"Tie them up and seal their acupoints," Il-mok ordered.

The warriors of the Hong Dynasty moved as if it was routine. Before long, they had secured every remaining enemy aboard the vessel, and the warriors transferred several of them to the other ships.

They divided about half of the hundred captured sailors among their three merchant ships, while Il-mok and thirty of his own elites set up camp on the captured vessel.

As the cleanup wound down, Jong-ri Chu leaned over the railing and spoke to Il-mok.

"Grand Preceptor, take a look at the survivors bobbing in the water. Some of them don't look European at all."

When Il-mok turned his head, he saw those who had survived the wrecking and sinking of the ships. Some were thrashing desperately in the waves, while others clung tightly to drifting timber. Among them, several dark-skinned individuals were clearly visible.

"They appear to be slaves who were forced to pull the oars and handle menial labor," Jong-ri Chu remarked.

For a brief moment, Il-mok wondered if he should have subdued the fleet gradually rather than blowing the ships apart with the World-Destroying Primordial Jade Palm. But he quickly dismissed the thought.

Had he done so, the enemy fleet's cannons might well have inflicted casualties on his own side.

"Fish them all out, both the slaves and the Portuguese alike. Someone among them might still be alive with useful information."

Only after hauling the lucky survivors aboard and subduing them did the cleanup finally conclude.

"Grand Preceptor, as the Hindu sailor suggested, we should still stop by Diu to restock.”

Il-mok nodded at Jong-ri Chu's words.

Shortly thereafter, the captured warship and the three merchant vessels unfurled their sails and set course for the port of Diu.

Predictably, the port of Diu fell into full-blown panic when they spotted them.

"T-the Portuguese are approaching!!"

The panic was understandable. Seeing a Portuguese caravel sail into your harbor usually meant you were about to be bombarded and robbed blind.

As the ships drew nearer, the panic morphed into confusion.

There was only one Portuguese hull, escorted by three standard vessels with a familiar design.

What was more, all four vessels flew flags no one had ever seen before.

The soldiers and sailors at the port of Diu watched the approaching ships with both confusion and apprehension.

Amid the confusion, several men examined the incoming vessels closely through telescopes.

"They don't seem to be Portuguese. They look very different."

Among them, an experienced middle-aged veteran recognized their origin. "They appear to be travelers hailing from the distant East."

But recognizing their ethnicity solved nothing.

Why on earth would men from the Far East be sailing aboard a Portuguese warship?

While the whole harbor was holding its breath, the ships of Hong arrived near the port of Diu.

A local patrol galley rowed out to intercept them. "State your business and identity before you drop anchor in Diu!"

Jong-ri Chu stepped forward to answer. "We are merchants from the nation of Hong from the distant East!"

"Why would men from the East be sailing a Portuguese warship?!"

"We encountered a Portuguese fleet on our way here. We sank the other four and kept this one as a souvenir!"

To back up his claim, Jong-ri Chu signaled the nearby soldiers to haul a dozen bound and gagged Portuguese privateers up to the railing like sacks of flour.

Jaws dropped across the Diu patrol galley.

"A Portuguese squadron defeated by merchant vessels? That must be a lie!"

"It has to be a trap! Maybe the Portuguese staged this whole act to sneak their men inside Diu!”

Someone even conjured up such an elaborate conspiracy theory, but the captain shook his head.

"Are you seriously telling me those arrogant white bastards, who call us dirty monkeys every time they drop anchor, agreed to pretend to be whipped dogs just for a scouting mission? Does that sound like Portuguese pride to you?"

Nobody had a comeback for that.

"I don't know what sort of black magic they used to overpower them, but these Easterners really did crush a Portuguese squadron.”

The captain cleared his throat and yelled across the distance.

"For now, you are permitted to dock! But should you cause any disturbance, you will be punished according to the laws of our land!"

"Fair enough, much obliged!"

The ships of Hong passed the patrol and were able to moor at the port of Diu.

Soon after, members of the expedition began disembarking in an orderly file. Naturally, a curious crowd of dockworkers and citizens converged upon the pier, staring at the exotic arrivals with wide eyes.

Watching the spectacle from the deck, Il-mok mused dryly to himself.

'We might as well be monkeys at a zoo.'

Awkward stares aside, the crew disembarked and made their way toward the town. The group consisted of roughly thirty soldiers from Hong accompanied by the local Hindu deckhands

On paper, this was Narendra's golden ticket.

The grand escape he and his buddies had plotted was right there for the taking.

Since only a fraction of the foreigners had disembarked, surveillance was far lighter than before.

But the thought of escape had long since vanished from Narendra's mind.

There was no longer any reason to fear the Portuguese.

Why flee into destitution when surviving the voyage would secure the remaining half of his wages?

More importantly, the beings walking beside him to purchase grain and water were infinitely more terrifying than any Portuguese privateer could ever hope to be.

Just then, a curious local bystander could no longer contain his curiosity and approached Narendra.

"Who are these people? How in the world did they bring down a Portuguese fleet?"

Hearing the stranger's question, Narendra instantly recalled the battle he had witnessed and the dazzling destruction of the fleet.

"These are men from the distant East. As for the Portuguese fleet... Lord Shiva the Destroyer manifested and vanquished them."

"Lord Shiva?"

"Indeed. He snapped his fingers four times, and four Portuguese ships blew apart."

"..."

The local stared at Narendra as if he had escaped from an asylum.

Meanwhile, back on the water.

While Jong-ri Chu was busy haggling over rice and fresh water in town, Il-mok was leaning against the quarterdeck rail of the captured flagship with Jin Hayeon and the girls.

"Grand Preceptor, where do we go once the resupply is complete?" Jin Hayeon asked.

Il-mok gathered his thoughts for a moment before answering. "Now that swords have been drawn and blood has been spilled, the time for pleasantries has clearly passed."

While it might have looked like he blew his top in the heat of the moment, his course of action was far from a petty emotional impulse. Those European privateers had greeted them with insults about monkeys and savages from the jump; they were never going to sit down at a table and negotiate in good faith.

That left only one course of action.

"So, instead of wasting breath on diplomacy, we're just going to take their sea routes by force."
