Chapter 138: Chapter 138: I Saw My Parents

Lin Ye didn’t say much and simply handed over the medicine. He watched as Feng He, her eyes red and almost frenzied, stared at the name on the bottle.

Seeing this, Lin Ye’s eyes filled with sympathy. He pursed his lips, squatted down, and looked at Feng He earnestly. "This is medicine for treating internal organ damage. Just open the cap and have her drink it."

"Medicine for restoring spiritual power is too precious. I wasn’t able to requisition any, I’m sorry."

Lin Ye said apologetically, but Feng He ignored him completely. She uncapped the bottle and poured the potion directly into Lin Jingjing’s mouth.

’No wonder giving Sister Lin a bottle of Grade A Recovery Agent didn’t seem to help.’

Looking at Lin Jingjing’s pale face, Feng He’s heart was lodged in her throat.

She kept her hand on Lin Jingjing’s wrist, and only calmed down slightly after hearing her heartbeat.

Whenever it involved Lin Jingjing, Feng He became a different person.

In her eyes, Sister Lin was powerful and formidable. Nothing could possibly defeat her.

But seeing Lin Jingjing in this state, her heart ached.

The once vibrant and spirited young woman now lay here, weak and frail.

’How could anyone accept this?’

The three men nearby squatted down in a circle, their eyes all filled with pained concern.

"How is Sister Lin?" Shi Feng asked worriedly.

"She’s physically a little better, but her spiritual power..." Feng He said, looking at Lin Jingjing in her arms. "It’s not good."

"What’s wrong with her spiritual power?!" Gu Kaiwen immediately demanded.

Feng He raised a hand to wipe away a tear. "She used too much spiritual power," she said. "The animals she summoned were mauled or killed, and the barrier protecting us was shattered. All of it took a massive toll on her spiritual power."

"We’re the ones who dragged Sister Lin down."

"We’re too weak." As she spoke, Feng He hugged Lin Jingjing tighter, tears streaming uncontrollably from her eyes.

The tears trickled down her cheeks, one after another, before dripping onto Lin Jingjing’s face.

Lin Jingjing had thought she was still lying in her mother’s arms, but the sudden cold sensation made her realize she was no longer by her mother’s side.

’And I still have partners to save. I can’t keep sleeping here.’

Just as they were weeping for her, Lin Jingjing’s eyelashes fluttered. She slowly opened her eyes to see the four of them, sobbing uncontrollably.

Lin Jingjing raised her hand to touch Feng He’s face. It was wet.

"Don’t cry," Lin Jingjing said softly. Though quiet, her voice reached each of their ears.

At her words, they all stopped crying and simply knelt there, staring at her in a daze.

"Sister Lin—" Feng He threw herself on her, shouting, "You’re not dead!"

"Silly girl. If I died, who would take care of you?" Lin Jingjing said with a chuckle.

With that, she moved out of Feng He’s arms and stood up. She looked around, a little stunned by what she saw.

"Why is Chief Bei here?" Lin Jingjing asked with a smile.

"We don’t know." The four of them all shook their heads.

"We’re here to solve the problem," Beisang replied simply.

"Then how about you solve the problem above our heads?" Lin Jingjing shot back.

Even though she hadn’t looked up, she knew exactly what was above them.

"That thing isn’t easy to deal with," Lin Jingjing told them. "Going up against it like this will just get a lot of people killed."

The monsters Beisang’s team had been fighting seemed easy enough to handle, but this would be a different matter entirely.

Just then, Beisang looked up. The other soldiers followed her gaze and saw countless mutant beasts leaping down from above. There were so many that they blotted out the sky.

"So many mutant beasts?" someone exclaimed, stunned by the sight.

"Can we really win with so few people?"

One person’s doubt was enough to make countless others question, and with enough doubt, their confidence began to wane.

Beisang’s voice cut through the noise. "All of you, shut up!"

"Anyone else who disrupts morale will face a court-martial when we get back!"

With that, she strode forward a few paces and swept her arm out. Countless large, pale-white discs materialized behind her.

Quickly, under Beisang’s control, a whole arsenal of weapons was unleashed.

Single Pilot Mechas, unmanned robo-dogs, greatswords, bullets—they all emerged one by one from the discs.

"Go!" Beisang pointed, and the arsenal floating behind her surged forward.

The countless weapons shot toward the mutant beasts descending from above. The impact of metal on flesh sent a rain of blood splashing down on everyone below.

Lin Jingjing raised a hand to wipe away the blood that had spattered onto her, her eyes filled with disgust.

Her friends had already started complaining and were looking for cover.

"Damn it, I’m reeking of blood."

"Look around and see if there’s anywhere to take cover."

"Watch this!" Shi Feng produced a robot head from somewhere and plopped it on his own. "Now it can’t get on me."

"You idiot." Feng He couldn’t help but scoff when she saw him.

The five of them stood together, a sorry, battered sight, now soaked from head to toe in the blood of mutant beasts.

And yet, as they looked at Shi Feng with the robot head on, their eyes crinkled in amusement.

The soldiers aimed their laser guns upward, firing blast after blast in an attempt to kill the mutant beasts before they even landed.

The bodies of mutant beasts rained down one after another, and soon the open ground was piled high with their corpses.

The five of them paid no mind to the corpses, their eyes frequently returning to Lin Jingjing.

"Sister Lin, are you feeling better?"

"How’s your spiritual power?" Feng He added, reaching out to take Lin Jingjing’s wrist.

"My spiritual power is fine," Lin Jingjing said with a smile, patting her own head. "I saw my mom and dad when I passed out."

"They told me to keep living."

"What? You saw Uncle and Auntie?" Gu Kaiwen exclaimed in surprise.

The thought of Sister Lin’s parents reminded Gu Kaiwen of the huge New Year’s Eve feasts they used to make. He wasn’t much of a foodie, but the aroma from that table full of food was out of this world.

During middle and high school, Aunt Ruan would always invite them over for New Year’s dinner.

Their own parents could never make it home for the holiday, but while Aunt Ruan was also busy, she always had some time off.

Every year, Aunt Ruan would cook a massive feast for them, and the sight of it was enough to make their mouths water.

Every time, they would eat until they were stuffed to the gills.

"Yeah," Lin Jingjing nodded.

"So, did you see my parents?" Shi Feng asked quickly, lifting the robot head off.
