Chapter 1371: Chapter 1347: Two People Who Swapped Identities
Three days! Seventy-two hours!
Since returning from the freezing plant, Quan Xianglin seemed to have aged ten years, spending all day tucked away in the residence arranged by Shao Qinyi. Without any special activity, he absolutely wouldn’t leave there, not a single step. The bodyguards around the residence were doubled, as if worried Boss Xing would come back for revenge, always on edge.
However, such worrying seemed somewhat unnecessary. Three full days had passed since leaving the freezing plant, and not a single suspicious person had been seen near the residence.
For Quan Xianglin, these three days could only be described as living in constant fear, while Sin City welcomed a group of dusty travelers.
Yelu Shou pushed the door open directly, but upon seeing the person sitting behind the office desk, he suddenly leaped forward and swung a punch at the person. The attack was without warning, leaving the person buried in work shocked and panicked.
"What are you doing?" Xiao Lin took off his glasses, staring listlessly at Yelu Shou. "Is this your greeting?"
"You’re not Xiao Lin!" Yelu Shou, having missed a strike, immediately launched a series of attacks, causing papers to fly all over the office, as if it had just been ransacked.
Xiao Lin chuckled, dodging and deflecting Yelu Shou’s attacks. "If I’m not Xiao Lin, then who am I?"
Yelu Shou put on his Steel Claw, intent on killing. "Where’s Xiao Lin?" Following orders, he’d tracked down Wang Zhanting in a seventy-two-hour pursuit and located Mu Rongyun’s hiding place. His return, discovering that Xiao Lin was no longer Xiao Lin, gave him a feeling of being played.
"I am Xiao Lin!"
Yelu Shou squinted, his gray eyes fixed on Xiao Lin’s face. "Flame’s mask can pass as real, no matter how well you impersonate, but you don’t have his scent. Who are you really, and where is Xiao Lin?"
Before he finished speaking, the Steel Claw on his right hand detached and flew toward his opponent’s chest. Xiao Lin hurriedly propped up the back of his chair to dodge, but his chest was still scratched with three bloody marks by the sharp claw.
"They say Xiao Lin always has a tricky fellow by his side. To destroy Xiao Lin, you must first sever his arms. Yelu Shou, your very existence is Xiao Lin’s biggest weakness, and the other person is Hua Qingyi." Xiao Lin laughed, taking advantage of Yelu Shou’s hesitation to retreat to the doorway. Just as he was about to escape through the door, someone kicked it open from the outside, mercilessly kicking him back into the room.
Yelu Shou retracted his Steel Claw, blinking at Troy, who entered from outside. "Where’s the Black Doctor? Why did he let you come alone?"
"He’s right behind. Who’s this guy?" Troy pointed to the person on the ground, and a gray shadow immediately lunged from behind Troy, pressing both front paws towards Xiao Lin’s face.
"Raven!" Yelu Shou shouted, stopping Raven’s intention to tear into the person. Though Raven’s sharp teeth didn’t bite down, they had already pierced the skin.
"Raven wouldn’t attack Xiao Lin. Who are you really?"
"Miss Lotus, how long will you keep watching? If you don’t come out now, I’m dead and won’t be able to continue the act." Xiao Lin, restrained by Raven, cried for help loudly, with no image to maintain.
Lotus’ girlish laughter echoed in the room. "Shou, let him go. He’s Xiao Lin’s substitute, and we need him for the play."
Yelu Shou exclaimed briefly, then patted Raven’s head, but it didn’t work; Raven still refused to let go, making a rumbling sound in its throat.
"This guy doesn’t listen to us. Without Xiao Lin, I’m afraid it won’t work." Yelu Shou tried several times to no avail, and gave up, sitting back. As soon as the Black Doctor entered, he saw Raven pressing on Xiao Lin and was quite astonished.
"What’s going on here?" Raven attacking Xiao Lin was unusual.
"Don’t ask me, ask Lotus." Yelu Shou spread his hands, acting clueless.
"This person isn’t Boss!" Troy sniffed around Xiao Lin like a little dog.
The Black Doctor nodded, showing little reaction to Troy’s words, though Raven’s behavior confirmed his suspicion. "Lotus, shouldn’t you explain to us what’s going on? Boss Xiao’s whimsy should have its limits."
"Xiao Lin himself will tell you in fifteen minutes." Lotus restrained her laughter in the monitoring room, but the Black Doctor’s words were right. Xiao Lin’s whimsicality had stirred public anger, and if the other two found out, I’m afraid...
Xiao Lin’s whimsicality could truly be tolerated only by his woman, Raven being the first to recognize Xiao Lin. It was just as willful as its master; even when releasing the imposter, it left behind significant injuries.
The person lying on the ground let out an anguished cry, gripping his neck with both hands, Raven’s sharp teeth having narrowly missed his artery by mere centimeters. Raven sprang out of the window; with this being the sixth floor, a typical mall was significantly taller than an ordinary residence, and jumping from here would either kill or injure seriously.
After a few agile jumps along the wall, Raven landed steadily on the ground and ran towards the back of the complex.
Just as Xiao Lin got out of the car, a huge creature pounced on him, catching him exactly. Excitedly, Raven stuck out its tongue, but Xiao Lin stopped it, chuckling as he patted Raven’s head, having not seen this little guy in a long time.
Yelu Shou followed Raven out, closely followed by Troy and the Black Doctor. This time, standing before them was the genuine article, and the expressions on their faces turned even grimmer.
Xiao Lin walked up to them. "Are we doing group combat or a duel?"
"Even if you add a few more to join in, you’re still no match for me, so don’t waste your energy." Ye Lushou gave Xiao Lin a sidelong glance; he hadn’t seen any indication that Xiao Lin wanted to fight in the first place.
"Who exactly is the person upstairs?"
"Shao Qinyi." Xiao Lin chuckled twice. "It’s time to send him back now."
Shao Qinyi, after tearing off his mask, looked at himself in the mirror and marveled at the human skin mask in his hand. He hadn’t paid much attention to its craftsmanship when he put it on, but now he realized that the person who could make such a thing was simply beyond human. Wearing it felt just like human skin, breathable and natural.
When Shao Qinyi emerged from the restroom, Xiao Lin was already sitting on the sofa, and no one else was around. He placed the mask in a delicate box and closed it, looking somewhat reluctant to part with it.
"You seem to really enjoy playing my role." There was no sarcasm in the statement.
"If not for you, I wouldn’t have known how loyal those people truly are. If someone like Young Master Xiao can’t succeed, who can?" Shao Qinyi, sitting across from Xiao Lin, said. "For as many days as I’ve been here, that’s how many days they’ve doubted me. Yet they still followed my orders. At first, I thought they were foolish, without even the basic ability to discern. But later on, I realized that because that person is you, they endure."
Xiao Lin chuckled, his dark eyes narrowing.
"Fortunately, everything I did was what you had arranged. Otherwise, I fear this impostor might have already lost his head."
"I, Xiao Lin, don’t have such great capabilities, but I still want to thank Shao Junwei for his cooperation this time. Without you, my plan might have some flaws." Xiao Lin lit a cigarette. "Without Boss Xing, Quan Xianglin would rely on you more. I will honor my promise to keep you safe."
"Young Master Xiao, getting all the criminal evidence on Quan Xianglin might not be so simple. Even I don’t have access to physical evidence. You want me to be an eyewitness behind the scenes, but I can tell you clearly this is useless."
Listening to Shao Qinyi’s words, Xiao Lin simply chuckled it off. "For people or matters that can’t be resolved through legal means, solve them through illegal means."
"Young Master Xiao’s meaning is..."
"I have no particular meaning. Here, let me be frank with you, I’m not interested in Quan Xianglin. Whether you want him dead or alive is your choice. But until I’ve rooted out Mu Rongyun, Quan Xianglin will always be my tool."
"What does Mu Rongyun mean to Young Master Xiao that makes you, the Military Doctor of Dragon Soul, go to any lengths, even set aside your own persistence?"
"Personal vendetta. Shao Junwei doesn’t need to know too much; just eliminate Quan Xianglin, and you can take his place. I’m sure Hua Qingyi can also achieve this for you. Since you killed Quan Mingyuan, there’s no turning back."
Shao Qinyi looked at Xiao Lin. If he hadn’t killed Quan Mingyuan, would Xiao Lin still have used him? No one knows, but the current result isn’t too bad either.
"Then I’ll rely entirely on Young Master Xiao. But how do I get back?"
"The same way I came, you will go back. Hua Qingyi and Lao Jiu are unaware of our identity switch, so you needn’t worry."
"Isn’t Young Master Xiao afraid I’ll spill the beans if you let me go back like this?"
"That would be best. I could directly take out Quan Xianglin and you as well, and I wouldn’t have to go around in circles. I actually hope you betray me."
Shao Qinyi didn’t expect Xiao Lin to answer so straightforwardly. He looked at Xiao Lin, trying to determine how much truth was in his words.
"Don’t doubt it; every word I say is the truth. What I do next depends entirely on you."
"Thirty minutes to consider?" Shao Qinyi calculated the time it would take to return to Quan Xianglin’s place from Sin City.
Xiao Lin nodded, "Thirty minutes should be enough for you. This is what I’ve prepared for you; Quan Xianglin needs it right now." Xiao Lin pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket.
"What is this?"
"Wang Zhanting’s hideout. I’ve already given a copy to the Xiao Family as well." Xiao Lin exhaled smoke. "Whether you can capture Wang Zhanting depends on your capability. Outside the cold storage plant, I think Quan Xianglin doesn’t just have death row inmates in his hand. Losing Boss Xing is a misstep for Quan Xianglin. He shouldn’t have designed that probing step."
"But Young Master Xiao didn’t stop it either."
"Sowing discord is quite a common tactic for you, isn’t it? I merely did what you would have done. Moreover, my opposition would only make Quan Xianglin doubt your loyalty even more, even though that word doesn’t have a place in your heart, haha!"
"There once was, but he shouldn’t have ignored Shao Weihua!"
Xiao Lin smiled, saying no more. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, you’re welcome to visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
