Chapter 1372: Chapter 1348: Don’t Kill Me

Shao Qin stood side by side with Hua Qingyi, lingering in front of a seemingly unremarkable two-story house for over an hour, appearing as if they were waiting for someone.

The sky had already darkened, and the streetlights along the road were lit. The two people stubbed out their cigarettes, got into their car, and drove away.

Soon after the two left, lights came on in the two-story house, shadows flickered inside, and soon, heavy curtains blocked the light.

The departing car slowly returned via another road, parking in an alley. Several people quickly emerged from the car, swiftly approaching the house, but before they could enter, several more people appeared from the side, trailing them.

"We have a tail!" said the person on the far left through his earpiece to his comrades, making two hand signals with his left hand before entering the backyard first, while two others entered through the front door.

"Let two people hold back the tail; the rest enter the main house and find the target."

As the words fell, two men jumped out from the group, and the rest positioned themselves, one second later, they all burst through the door.

A part of the group swiftly dashed upstairs; the remaining searched the rooms on the first floor. The entire operation was organized, rapid, and clean.

"First floor is clear."

The team on the second floor passed through a corridor, bursting into a bedroom, their guns scanning the corners of the room, and the leader uttered a curious sound.

"Careful!" With two fingers pointed forward, the leader’s men entered the bathroom and the small parlor on the other side.

"No one."

After confirming again that the room was empty, the three men turned their guns, their faces showing perplexed expressions.

"Where’s the person?"

The sound of gunfire erupted from downstairs, prompting the three to rush out of the bedroom. Before they even reached downstairs, they were besieged halfway, while those on the first floor were already entangled in a skirmish with people whose origins were unclear from their appearance.

"Who are you?" the leader asked calmly, but the other party had no intention of answering, charging directly at them, throwing the house into chaos.

The ceiling in the bedroom on the second floor had a panel lifted, and a rounded body crawled down from above. The opening wasn’t low, judging by his sluggish movements, the space above seemed very cramped.

The middle-aged man pressed against the door listening to the commotion outside, then cautiously returned to the window, preparing to escape to the ground floor via the drainpipe. But just as he was about to step forward, a pitch-black gun barrel aimed at his head, and someone hung upside down from the ceiling with dark eyes staring at him.

"Minister Wang, where do you think you’re going?" Xiao Lin deftly flipped down from the ceiling, forcing Wang Zhanting back into the room.

"Young Master Xiao!" Wang Zhanting retreated step by step, one hand gripping the gun barrel, the other rummaging around.

"Everyone here is out to catch you—cause any commotion at your own risk, let’s see who’s faster, you or me," Xiao Lin said coldly.

"Weren’t those people brought by you?" Wang Zhanting slumped onto the sofa, glaring at Xiao Lin.

"Haha! Do I need such a crowd to catch you? Could you not see these people are seasoned professionals?" Xiao Lin, hidden on the roof, saw the team clearly, while the other group was intriguing.

"Young Master Xiao must be joking. If they’re not yours, then whose are they?" Wang Zhanting sneered. "I know I won’t escape much longer, but there’s no need for you to lie to me!"

Xiao Lin snorted, pointing his gun at the door, and within seconds, a group charged in. "Minister Wang, I’ve been waiting for your signal. Choose to go with me or them, weigh it yourself."

Xiao Lin vanished out the window during their entry, and Wang Zhanting barely turned before someone hoisted him from the sofa, flinging him against the wall like a sack.

"Take him away!"

Wang Zhanting felt as if his body was falling apart, sprawling on the ground, military boots appeared in his view, he quickly got up, throwing a punch at the incoming people, feigned an attack, then dashed for the door.

Bodies lay scattered along the corridor, more bodies cluttered the first floor, as if there had been a confrontation between two factions. Wang Zhanting dared not linger, snatched a gun from a cupboard near the door, hid it, and ran outside.

The figure clad in black on the second floor raised a gun and fired at Wang Zhanting’s hand, the bullet hitting the door handle, inches from his fingers.

Wang Zhanting shrieked, retracting his hand, the gunman didn’t intend to kill him, as long as Wang Zhanting didn’t attempt to flee, the trigger wouldn’t be pulled. He turned, glaring at the person descending the stairs behind him. "Who are you people, why are you targeting me?"

"The committee wants two items in your possession, hand them over, and you get to live."

Wang Zhanting was stunned, realizing these people were after treasures, Xiao Lin hadn’t lied. "I have no treasures, you’ve got the wrong person." Wang Zhanting said while seeking an opening, leaning against the door, hands open wide, showing he was unarmed and not attempting escape.

"No tricks!"

A bullet whizzed past Wang Zhanting’s ear, hitting the wall, showering his face and neck with plaster.

"Don’t kill me!" Wang Zhanting shouted, fearfully raising both hands.

The leader chuckled, another bullet fired, this time landing near Wang Zhanting’s foot, as if teasing him, consecutive shots struck the left and right, the casing grazing his foot.

"Hand over the items if you want to live."

"Is the ’committee’ you mentioned Quan Xianglin? If it’s Chairman Quan, I can deliver them personally." Wang Zhanting laughed dryly, testing.

The leader tilted his head, only two eyes visible beneath the mask. "Quan Xianglin?"

"Yes, are you sent by him?"

"Haha, take this man away."

Before Wang Zhanting could resist, his head was struck with a gun butt, knocking him out instantly, silencing him completely.

Some stayed behind to clean the scene, while the rest carried Wang Zhanting into the car parked in the alley.

A fire quickly ignited, consuming the two-story house entirely. They waited until the fire burned the structure to ash before hurrying off.

Several minutes later, firefighters arrived on the scene, but it was already too late. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) for recommendation votes, monthly votes; your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please go to m.qidian.com to read.)
