Pressurized hydraulic fluid sprayed across the drainage floor as the reinforced vault doors collapsed inward with a deafening crash.

Acrid chemical smoke rolled through the breached opening while distant emergency sirens echoed throughout the subterranean corridors of the synthesis facility.

Fin stepped across the threshold with his hatchet gripped in his right hand, his eyes scanning the cavernous room for immediate tactical threats.

Ruby moved into the swirling mist with her tower shield raised against her shoulder, keeping her balance steady on the masonry.

Nila fanned out along the left perimeter wall, her fingers resting lightly against the grip of her throwing daggers as she checked the catwalks above.

Darek followed closely behind their steps, his bone blades extended while scalding steam vented steadily from the brass collar locked around his neck.

"Maya, do you have a stable scanner feed on this inner chamber?" Fin touched his earpiece with his left thumb, squinting through the drifting chemical haze.

"The internal sensors are scrambled by high-voltage feedback," Maya answered over the radio link, her voice crackling against static, "but auxiliary power is surging directly into the primary vat bay."

"Keep the emergency brake on the freight elevator locked," Fin adjusted his grip on the hatchet, watching faint ripples disturb the green sludge pooling beneath the grates.

"Standing by on the life-support monitors right now," Maya reported over the line with crisp speed, "the forty-eight children in the outer gallery are breathing steadily on reserve battery power."

"Keep your eyes glued to those readouts until Bram arrives with the convoy," Fin rolled his shoulders, settling into a low combat stance.

High above the drainage floor, halogen floodlights flickered to life along a suspended catwalk bridge eighty feet in the air.

A man in spotless white laboratory robes leaned over the safety railing, looking down at the intruders with cold, condescending amusement.

Chief Synthesist Krell rested his manicured palms against the rail, his thin lips curving into a patronizing sneer as his gaze locked onto Darek.

"You crawled out of the gutter, Subject One," Krell scoffed, his dry voice echoing off the cavernous walls, "and you brought more gutter trash to die inside my laboratory."

"Where are the rest of the children?" Fin pointed the hardened spike of his hatchet toward the high observation platform. "Talk before I climb up there and drag you down to the floor."

"Those forty-eight failures in the outer gallery were simply baseline biomass," Krell sneered, waving a dismissive hand toward the dark corridor, "raw fuel for the true synthesis project."

"You are going to pay for every single one of them," Darek took a trembling step forward, scalding steam hissing violently from his brass collar.

"Empty threats from an unranked stray," Krell laughed, his face twisting with derision as he stepped toward a crimson console, "let me introduce you to the future of biological warfare."

Krell slammed his palm down onto a crimson activation panel, triggering a sequence of pneumatic releases along the rear bulkhead.

A reinforced blast hatch slid open with a screech of shearing bolts, revealing an abyssal darkness that reeked of sulfur and decomposing flesh.

From the depths of the containment vault stepped a quadruped horror that towered twenty feet above the drainage floor.

Four pulsating abyssal rift cores sat embedded into its thoracic carapace, bathing the chamber in an unnatural emerald brilliance.

Segmented scythe limbs clicked against the floor as the Chimera Goliath lowered its armored head and exhaled a cloud of corrosive vapor.

The acidic mist struck the nearest drainage grate, instantly dissolving the metal bars into foaming, bubbling sludge.

"Spread out across the chamber right now!" Fin leaped backward as the caustic cloud expanded across the tiles. "That mist will dissolve armor in three seconds flat!"

"Ruby, anchor the center line!" Nila sprinted toward the perimeter pillars, her athletic frame blurring with speed. "I will flank the rear actuators!"

"What should I do?" Darek raised both bone blades in front of his chest, his eyes flashing with desperate fury.

"Stay behind Ruby’s shield until I give the signal," Fin circled toward the right flank, his eyes tracking the scythe limbs, "do not rush into that acid spray alone!"

"I am ready for this bastard," Darek crouched low, his jaw clenching as the floor trembled beneath their feet.

The Chimera Goliath lunged forward with terrifying speed, its four front limbs striking the floor in synchronized succession.

It whipped its spiked tail in a vicious horizontal sweep, aiming to cut the squad in half before they could establish their formation.

Ruby planted both feet firmly into the floor, activating Earth-Reinforcement as the massive tail smashed directly into her shield.

The concussive shockwave rang through the chamber, but the barrier held completely rigid without giving an inch of ground.

"Now, Nila!" Ruby braced against the shuddering impact of the strike, planting her back foot into the masonry. "Cut the leg cables while it recovers!"

"Already moving!" Nila called out, darting beneath the sweeping scythe with blinding agility.

Nila sprinted beneath the creature’s sweeping scythe, hurling two weighted throwing spikes directly into the left rear knee actuator.

Pressurized synthetic fluid erupted from the severed lines, forcing the chimera’s left hind leg to buckle against the floor.

The beast screeched in agony, swinging its right scythe limb downward in an attempt to impale Nila into the tiles.

Darek sprang forward with feral speed, driving both bone blades into the creature’s lower jaw hinge to wedge the mouth open.

"I have the jaw locked tight!" Darek roared, veins bulging across his scarred neck as scalding steam burst from his collar. "Fin, smash the core before it recovers!"

"Hold it steady for two seconds," Fin locked his gaze onto the glowing thoracic plate, "do not let those teeth snap shut!"

"Just hit it!" Darek strained against the creature’s thrashing head, his arms shuddering under the immense counter-pressure.

Fin evaluated the eight yards of open space separating him from the beast’s thoracic plate with cold tactical clarity.

He triggered Overclock, spending forty stamina as his effective Agility exploded instantly to four hundred and twenty-nine.

The world slowed to an absolute crawl around him as air currents turned into visible trails of drifting vapor.

Fin activated Spatial Warp Slip, consuming ten mana to vanish into thin air and reappear directly above the thoracic carapace.

The corrosive vapor drifted harmlessly beneath him as he landed squarely between the creature’s flailing scythe joints.

He drew his hatchet in a reverse grip, channeling one hundred and thirty-six Strength into the hardened spike.

Fin drove the spike downward with sovereign force, piercing the crystalline housing of the central abyssal rift core.

The strike shattered the core matrix into a thousand glowing shards, sending thirty thousand volts of chaotic mana surging through the carcass.

The Chimera Goliath shuddered violently as its secondary rift cores overloaded, collapsing the entire construct into inert grey sludge.

Fin dropped lightly onto the floor tiles, rolling smoothly to his feet as the creature’s remains dissolved into smoking residue.

The acrid stench of dissolved synthetic flesh hung suspended in the filtered air while the ventilation fans spun at emergency velocity.

Fin lowered his hatchet as the newly integrated passive processed the caustic fumes into harmless moisture against his throat.

He stepped toward the dissolving core casing, extending his right palm to initiate the extraction protocol.

"The beast is down," Fin exhaled a slow breath, shaking burning ichor from the spike of his hatchet, "and its primary core is completely shattered."

"That thing had four stabilized rift matrices bolted directly to its spine," Nila kicked a smoking piece of chitin away with her toe, "he grew an actual C-plus monstrosity inside a municipal basement!"

"Look at those bypass conduits," Ruby pointed her spear tip toward the ceiling relays, her face grim beneath the emergency floodlights, "he stole power straight from the municipal grid to feed its growth."

"Well, it is scrap metal and rotting meat now," Fin knelt beside the dissolving carapace, extending his right hand toward the flickering core, "let us see what this abomination leaves behind."

"Are you two intact?" Fin glanced over his shoulder toward Ruby and Nila, checking their gear for acid burns.

"Just a few minor scratches from flying shell splinters," Nila wiped soot from her forehead with the back of her sleeve, "nothing that will slow me down."

"My shield absorbed the worst of the tail sweep," Ruby tapped the dented surface of her round barrier with her knuckles, "good work driving that spike home before it vented again."

"Darek held the jaw open," Fin nodded toward the panting youth who stood slumped against a support pillar, "that gave me the clean angle I needed."

Up on the observation catwalk, Krell stumbled backward against the control console, his face pale with utter terror.

"Impossible," Krell stammered, clutching his clipboard against his chest as his hands shook uncontrollably, "that core possessed four stabilized rift matrices!"

"Your pet monster is dead, Krell," Fin called out, his voice ringing cold and clear through the cavernous chamber, "step away from that console and walk down the stairs with your hands in the air."

"Never!" Krell backed away from the railing, his voice cracking with hysterical panic. "You think you won just by breaking my pet?"

Krell slammed his fist down onto a covered emergency switch, smashing the plastic casing into shattered fragments.

A deafening siren shrieked through the chamber as red emergency strobe lights bathed the catwalk in crimson glare.

Shuddering vibrations traveled through the bedrock floor as underground sluice gates began to grind open beneath them.

"Fin, look out!" Maya’s voice crackled through the radio, shrill with alarm. "Krell just triggered an emergency coolant overload on the main valves!"

"What did that idiot open?" Fin sprinted toward the central control platform, his hatchet ready.

"The primary river dam coolant siphon," Maya tapped frantically on her keyboard, "he is forcing thousands of gallons of chemical coolant backward into the municipal drinking lines!"

"That siphon feeds straight into the District Two aqueduct," Ruby warned, her eyes widening in horror as water began rushing beneath the floor grates.

"It will poison sixty residential blocks in ten minutes flat!" Nila shouted over the deafening blare of the klaxon.

"We cannot let that runoff reach the aqueduct," Fin set his jaw into a hard, unyielding line.

"Ruby, take Nila and Darek up that staircase right now," Fin pointed toward the observation bridge, "subdue Krell alive and secure his master access keys before he destroys more equipment."

"What about the coolant siphon?" Ruby stepped forward with her shield held ready.

"I am dropping down into the turbine trench," Fin adjusted his grip on the hatchet haft as water surged around his ankles. "I will jam that siphon before the pressure breaches the main aqueduct."

"Be careful in that current," Ruby sprinted toward the metal stairs, spear in hand, "the floodgates will crush anything caught in the gears!"

"Move!" Fin shouted, turning on his heel and diving straight toward the churning access shaft below.
