Chapter 88 | Maybe The Saintess Likes You!
Chapter 88: 88 | Maybe The Saintess Likes You!
The moment the spider’s next web attack touched the flames, it didn’t just burn, it disintegrated. The sticky silk shriveled and blackened in an instant, turning to ash before it even reached Andrew.
The spider’s clicking sounds changed in pitch and frequency.
If Andrew hadn’t known better, he would have said the creature sounded confused.
That wasn’t all, Andrew suddenly activated his Dragon Form.
Blue scales erupted across his skin and horns emerged from his skull as his strength and agility surged, and the Chaos Dark Flame around his blade intensified, growing larger and hotter.
With a burst of speed, Andrew closed the distance to the spider in a single bound.
"Violent Strike!"
The creature reared back, raising its front legs in a defensive posture as Andrew’s blade, wreathed in purple flame, carved through the air in a devastating arc.
What happened to the grasshopper that tried to stop the elephant...?
Exactly!
The blade severed its legs cleanly.
The spider let out another ear-piercing shriek. Black blood sprayed from the wound, and the creature staggered sideways, its balance compromised by the missing leg.
"Thousand Cut Strike!"
Like thousands of blades slashing at the same time
A massive blur of violent blade arcs slashed across the spider’s body. Each cut easily slices through the armored plates of the monster.
Dividing the Elite Monster’s body into various slices.
[2-Star Elite Monster Killed!]
↳ Cave Web Spider (Level 9) has been slain!
↳ +350 EXP
↳ World Fame +8
The Chaos Dao Flame faded, and he allowed his Dragon Form transformation to recede, feeling the scales retract and the horns shrink back into his skull.
It was nice to let loose once in a while.
He activated Extraction on the spider’s corpse.
[Extraction Successful]
↳ +17 Agility
↳ +4 Mana
"Nice!"
Seeing the +17 agility boost, Andrew grinned like a mad man.
The agility bonus was the most significant single attribute gain he had received from a single extraction so far.
After defeating the spider, Andrew continued tracking the missing villagers. He wondered how they managed to get here in the first place.
’Or maybe the monsters only appeared for player and not NPC’s?’
Andrew thought deeply as he walked the trail.
The trail led him out of the narrow passage and back into denser forest, though the mist had begun to thin slightly as he moved away from the spider’s territory.
He could see where the blacksmith’s son had stepped, where he had rested, where he had brushed against branches, and even where he had spilled small amounts of blood from minor injuries.
The trail led him steadily deeper into the forest and it was getting higher.
The terrain became rockier, with more cliffs and fewer trees. The mist began to thin, replaced by a cold, clear mountain air that carried the scent fresh rain.
Eventually, the trail led him to the base of a massive cliff wall and then, there was nothing.
Andrew frowned. The footprints stopped abruptly, as if the person had simply vanished into thin air.
There were no signs of a struggle or no blood. It was as though he was abducted by aliens.
Even with his omniscient perception, he still couldn’t determine what was happening.
One moment, the trail was clear and distinct. The next, it simply ceased to exist.
Andrew frowned and proceeded to look around the entire place once’s more.
After an hour of searching, the trail still lead him here.
He gritted his teeth as he checked the time. It was almost morning and he was to meet with Guild member team that would take him on an expedition and supposedly train him.
"Fine. I better come back later when I’m calm."
He clicked the air and then logged out.
...
The first thing he saw was the plain white ceiling of his private dorm room. For a moment, he just lay there staring upward, letting his racing thoughts settle.
The encounter with that mysterious god... The terrifying near-miss of being discovered... And the cold understanding that the world of gods was far more dangerous than he’d ever imagined.
Before his thoughts could drag him deeper, a soft rustling came from beside him. Andrew turned his head.
Monica lay there, peaceful and still. Her long golden hair was spread across the pillow like strands of sunlight woven into silk, shimmering faintly under the dim glow of the room. The sight eased the tension in his chest. A small smile found its way to his lips. Without thinking, he leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
Almost immediately, Monica stirred. Her sleepy eyes fluttered open and found his face. The moment she saw him, a bright smile broke through, and she shifted closer, wrapping her arms around him with easy affection.
"You’re back..." she murmured.
Andrew smiled, nodding. "Yeah... I’m back."
Monica rested her chin lightly on his chest, curious. "How was it?"
He let out a slow breath. "It was... alright." Vague enough, and thankfully, she didn’t push.
Instead, her face lit up with sudden excitement, like she’d just remembered something amazing. She sat upright in bed, eyes sparkling. "Andrew!"
He raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Her smile widened. "I got accepted as a Godscion today!"
Andrew faked a look of surprise. "Really?" He already knew, of course. He was literally the one who had made her his Godscion. But he kept his expression neutral and listened quietly.
Monica launched into the story, words tumbling out so fast she nearly tripped over them. She told him everything—how she’d suddenly found herself in a mysterious heavenly world, surrounded by endless divine mist, and how a powerful being cloaked in holy light had chosen her personally. Andrew stayed silent, as if hearing it for the first time.
Then she reached the part that nearly made him laugh out loud. She beamed. "My patron’s name is Almighty Saffron."
Andrew’s mouth twitched. Of all the names he could’ve picked... that was what he’d gone with. But Monica was completely serious. "He didn’t ask me for anything," she said, her expression softening. "No payment, no loyalty tests, nothing. He just made me his Godscion."
Andrew smiled quietly.
Then Monica hesitated. A strange look crossed her face. "There was one thing though..."
He looked at her. "What?"
She toyed with a strand of golden hair. "I asked him if he could make you a Godscion too."
Andrew almost laughed again. "Oh?"
She nodded. "But he said he couldn’t. He said you already belong to another patron." Her eyes narrowed, playful but searching. "So tell me honestly... was that true, or was he just making excuses?"
Andrew chuckled softly. "No," he said, nodding. "It’s true."
Monica blinked. "You really have a patron?"
He paused, pretending to think, then answered calmly. "Yeah."
She leaned closer, curiosity sparking. "Who is it?"
He shrugged casually. "I don’t know much about her either."
"Her?" Monica frowned.
Andrew nodded. "She calls herself... the Saintess of Reversal."
Monica’s eyes widened. He went on. "I haven’t actually met her. The first time, I just saw a system notification asking if I wanted to accept her sponsorship. After I accepted... that was pretty much it."
Silence filled the room for a few seconds. Then Monica’s eyes narrowed in a sly, mischievous way. "Maybe this Saintess likes you."
Andrew blinked. "What?"
