Chapter 41: Defeat And The Power System

"It has potential." Aldric continued speaking but then shook his head. "However, you are still too weak to show its true power. Apart from blowing wind, it does nothing."

Pooland became ecstatic and mortified at the same time. He loved his talent, as it would allow him to rebound anything. He used this talent to blow away his enemies in one move as if it wasn’t some wind rushing forward that could be tackled on.

The rebound he just used was the basic use he created, shooting back the wind in his surroundings.

On the other hand, Leon was surprised. This was his first time seeing Pooland’s talent. From Aldric’s words and seeing it, he too felt it held great potential. He felt if he was at Apprentice-Rank, he wouldn’t be able to block it.

"Hey, do something. I think I can’t do anything alone." Pooland suddenly reminded Leon, jolting him awake from his deep train of thought.

"Okay." Leon nodded his head and said. "Do that again."

"Rebound."

Instantly, Pooland pointed his finger again at Aldric.

Aldric just smiled and waited for the attack to land. Suddenly, his senses tingled as he felt something emerging behind him. He turned his head and saw claws made of shadow emerging from the ground beneath him.

Boom!

Pooland’s rebound hit Aldric, and it didn’t achieve any sort of damage once again. Instead, Aldric muttered, looking at the shadow claw with a curious gaze. "Burn away."

Sizzle

It was as if a spark was thrown in petroleum, and the shadow claw was set on fire, as its light illuminated the training ground.

"Hmm!" Aldric turned his head straight and raised his two fingers.

Bam!

Leon’s eyes widened as he saw his punch getting blocked by Aldric’s two fingers.

"You can control shadows?" Aldric asked with a smile, greatly interested. "And you are at Adept-Rank?

Aldric was beyond surprised. He had known for a little time, but he had found out many things about this kid, more after Leon married his sister. But nothing could have prepared him for Leon’s rank. At such a young age, only a handful of people achieve this rank this fast.

However, Leon didn’t answer as their chain combo had just begun.

"Repulse." Pooland flicked his finger upwards, kicking up all the dust on the ground.

"Rebound." The dust then began dancing in the air as if a sandstorm had occurred.

Seeing everyone’s vision being obscured, Leon let multiple Shadow Claws emerge from the shadows and used his [Night Vision] to pinpoint Aldric’s location.

Aldric couldn’t see anything or anyone with his naked eye, forming the perfect situation to attack him.

"Not bad." Aldric commended their coordination. However, their effort was still in vain.

Taking Aldric as center, a firewall expanded, clearing the dust and the rookie city guards of his.

Fortunately, just as the fire wall was about to come in contact with them, it halted. They were damaged in any way, but the heat from the firewall told them they failed miserably.

After the fire wall disappeared, they saw Aldric’s smiling face. "So, how was it? Is Master-Rank strong, or do you guys want to see more? The next move might cause a ruckus in the surroundings."

"No need." Leon shook his head, not wanting to witness any more of the Master-Rank.

Their efforts didn’t cause any result on Aldric. He just used simple fire spells and tanked their attack with his high stat physique. Leon now had a rough understanding of where the Master-Rank could scale.

"Commander, you are so strong." Pooland exclaimed in admiration. He never thought he would have a boss so powerful. Maybe he should walk with pride from now on.

Aldric let out a chuckle, inwardly deciding to explain the ranks through to them. "For you guys to thoroughly understand what the ranks are, I will explain them to you properly."

Leon and Pooland didn’t expect Aldric to educate them about the ranks. There were many stories and explanations about them in the books, but those were just rough estimations and not thorough explanations about the ranks. To know about them, you have to join a force that holds this knowledge, and this was why Leon was in the dark about this.

"A human has a special physique who can control magical energy and apply it in any shape or element. We also have something that no race has—a talent. This is awakened just after we are born. Just like Pooland’s talent [Rebound] that can force back anything with innate force, or like yours, which you didn’t put in the application." Aldric halted in an awkward tone. He stared with an expression saying, "Why didn’t you put it in?"

"Ummm..." Leon felt a little embarrassed. How could he know what he put in his application form? He arrived in this world just a couple weeks ago. He was in the dark about a lot of things. So he could only rub the back of his head and come up with the classic excuse. "I forgot."

"Wow! You joined without mentioning your talent! I admire you brother." Pooland became surprised and patted Leon’s shoulder in admiration.

It was like not putting in your degree and work experience in your CV and landing the job. So, Pooland had the right to admire Leon.

"Okay, we will talk about Leon’s talent later. Let’s get back on track." Aldric coughed, bringing everyone’s attention. He didn’t want the topic to deviate from its original path.

"Now, talents are not categorized as all the talent is held at an equal value. Mainly because how much you grow depends on the person who can refine their talent."

"Can a person have more than one talent?" Leon asked, as he was the one wielding two talents.

"Yes and no. People can awaken more than one talent, but in the history of mankind, we have only recorded a handful of people who have awakened more than one talent. But those are all dual talents; no one with triple talent has ever appeared. Additionally, dual talent owners are as rare as marrying someone from the two forbidden races. It is fortunate to have even one of them in a decade." Aldric shook his head, showcasing a bit of sadness.
