Chapter 65: Arrogant Young Masters
While looking at his brother contemplating deeply, Leon noticed a gathering ahead of them.
"Let’s check what’s going on." Leon led the way forward, as they couldn’t let any kind of mishap happen under their watch.
Pooland snapped back to his senses and followed along.
As soon as they were close to the gathering, they began to hear.
"Kick this scammer out of the city! How could he dare to have the guts to cheat us?"
Instantly, Leon and Pooland knew it was some kind of trouble that needed to be solved quickly.
"Move away! Move away!" Pooland shouted and opened up a path for them to enter.
Coming to the center, they saw several young masters of noble families standing in front of an ornament shop. Prostrating before these young masters was the ornament shop owner, a young boy who had inherited his father’s work—Piniard.
Leon and Pooland were very familiar with him, as all of them were of the same age.
"What’s wrong, Piniard? Stand up." Pooland went forward and pulled Piniard for him to stand up.
Piniard was initially surprised to see his friends. After shedding tears of joy, Piniard got up and hugged Pooland. "Please, save me! I don’t want to be a disgrace."
Piniard’s request made them frown simultaneously.
Leon asked. "What has happened?"
"Hey, you two city guards! Are you trying to ignore us? Where is your respect meeting noble family members?"
Piniard wasn’t able to answer as one of the young masters sneered from the side.
Leon was disgusted seeing their arrogance, but he knew he had to appear respectful in front of them for now. Leon put away his frown and spoke without any expression. "Greetings, young masters. How can I help you?"
The young master, wearing a red robe, pointed his finger at Piniard. "I want you to kick this scammer out of here right away!"
"How did he scam you, young master?" Leon questioned instead.
The young masters were surprised. Their words were always divine words to these commoners. No one has ever questioned them.
The young master, who ordered Leon to throw out Piniard, was called Darian. His eyes turned hostile toward Leon. "Are you questioning me? Do you know who I am?"
"I don’t know." Leon shook his head, clueless. He didn’t have the time to remember some unknown young masters who would be forgotten in a few weeks. "But I do know you have to provide evidence to accuse this young man of scamming. Or I have to resort to force."
Now not only the young masters, but even the bystanders were also surprised. They have seen someone showing no respect to the nobles. They knew the fate of those who did so; they were not alive to tell the stories.
"Has this city guard lost his mind?"
"How could he? Doesn’t he see the noble crests on the young master’s shoulders?"
"Hey, I know these two. They are the new city guards for this street. They are very good and humble. They have never used their powers against us, instead helping us all the time. I think there is a bigger picture."
The bystanders whispered to themselves. Among them, the people who were familiar with Leon and Pooland, spoke up for them.
However, the young masters didn’t pay attention to their surroundings; this young city guard has taken root in them.
Another young master named Cedric said in a threatening tone. "You lowly city guard. Are you trying to question the Valcrest family? One of the pillars of the kingdom!"
Leon’s eyes widened a little; he didn’t expect it to be people from this family. Instantly, like a shark, he smelled blood in the water. ’They don’t just want to throw away Piniard, accusing him of scamming. They...have a much bigger goal.’
Leon guessed this because of how aggressive they were becoming and not wanting to bring out the conversation of the evidence. It wasn’t like he hadn’t interacted with any young masters like these. In his time as a city guard, he had met quite a lot of them.
Yes, they were arrogant, but not to this degree.
Another point was that the Valcrest family was under suspicion in the children’s disappearance case. Now that he knew what happened with the Rosenthal family, he had to find out the other traitors too.
"Valcrest Family. Yes, a smaller noble family. But what does it have to do with this case?" Leon pondered, acting clueless.
Instantly, Leon’s low-effort bait was easily bitten by these angry young masters.
"It looks like you have a death wish." Darian said, enraged.
"What!? Are you going to kill me? You are someone from a noble family! How can you do that? Pooland, you are seeing this?" Leon exclaimed loudly, his voice pressing the sound of the streets, grabbing everyone’s attention.
Meanwhile, Pooland and Piniard were a bit dumbfounded; they didn’t understand what Leon wanted to accomplish.
"You!?" The young masters’ eyes widened; they too were dumbfounded. They might be from the noble family, but under so many eyes, they couldn’t act brazenly.
"Huh? What is wrong, young master? Is killing someone shocking to you? Then why are you trying to kill me?" Leon squinted his eyes, staring at them suspiciously as if watching a couple of mentally handicapped people.
"Let’s leave. We will get him later." Cedric whispered in Darian’s ears as he felt countless gazes looking at them like they were watching a show in a circus.
Darian nodded his head and prepared to leave. However, he didn’t forget to give Leon a resentful look.
Inwardly Leon let out a smile. ’Where are you running, boy? I am not done with you. I will strip you naked and see what you are hiding.’
"Young master! Don’t leave! You haven’t told us how this young man scammed you?" Leon quickly walked forward and grabbed Darian’s shoulder, stopping him from walking away.
Darian felt his mind was about to explode, feeling Leon’s hand. This guy dared to touch him and obstruct him from leaving.
