SSS-Ranked Lust System: Taming Beauties Is My Calling
Chapter 146: Remember
The knock came again.
Once.
Then twice.
David stood several feet from the door.
He didn’t move.
Samuel remained behind him, silent.
The founder had backed away until his shoulders touched the wall.
David looked at him.
"You know what’s behind that door."
The founder swallowed.
"I know what it means."
"That’s not what I asked."
The founder looked at the door.
"I’ve never seen her."
David’s eyes narrowed.
"But you know her."
"Yes."
"How?"
The founder’s gaze dropped.
"Because you told us about her."
David stared at him.
"When?"
"Before you erased yourself."
The knock came again.
David turned toward the door.
Three knocks this time.
Slow.
Patient.
His hand reached for the handle.
Samuel stepped forward.
"David."
David glanced back.
"What?"
Samuel pointed toward the markings on his chest.
"The door."
David looked down.
The single white marking had changed.
It wasn’t a symbol anymore.
It was an actual door.
Small.
Perfectly formed.
And it was moving.
The outline opened slightly.
A thin line of white appeared across his skin.
David touched it.
The moment his finger made contact, the door in front of him disappeared.
He froze.
The corridor remained.
The founder remained.
Samuel remained.
But the door was gone.
In its place stood a woman.
David stopped breathing.
Elena.
She looked exactly as he remembered her.
No scars.
No blood.
No signs of the years that shouldn’t have existed.
She wore the same simple white dress from the memory.
Her hair rested against her shoulders.
Her eyes were wet.
David couldn’t move.
Elena smiled.
"Hi."
His throat tightened.
"You’re real."
She gave a small laugh.
"I was hoping you’d say something more romantic."
David stared at her.
Then he crossed the distance between them.
He stopped just before touching her.
His hand hovered near her face.
He was afraid.
Not of her.
Of what would happen if she disappeared.
Elena reached up and took his hand.
Her skin was warm.
David’s eyes widened.
He touched her cheek.
She didn’t vanish.
He exhaled.
A breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
"You came back."
"I told you I would."
David shook his head.
"No."
He looked at her carefully.
"You told me I’d come back."
Elena smiled.
"That too."
David almost laughed.
Instead, he pulled her into his arms.
She held him tightly.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Samuel looked away.
The founder didn’t.
He stared at Elena as if he were looking at something that should not exist.
David noticed.
He released her.
The moment he turned, his expression changed.
"You said you’ve never seen her."
The founder didn’t answer.
David stepped toward him.
"Look at her."
The founder did.
His face went pale.
"That’s impossible."
David stopped.
"What?"
"She shouldn’t be here."
Elena’s expression hardened.
"Neither should you."
The founder flinched.
David looked between them.
"You two know more than you’re telling me."
The founder shook his head.
"No."
David’s eyes narrowed.
"Then start talking."
The founder glanced at Elena.
She gave him a cold look.
"He’s not ready."
David’s patience snapped.
"I’ve spent my entire existence being told I wasn’t ready."
He stepped closer.
"I’m done hearing it."
The corridor trembled.
A crack appeared across the ceiling.
Dust fell.
Samuel looked upward.
"We should move."
David didn’t look away from the founder.
"Where?"
Samuel pointed down the corridor.
"The facility is collapsing."
David looked around.
The walls were changing.
Sections of the corridor flickered between the facility and the white landscape he’d seen in his memories.
For a second, he saw the house.
Then the river.
Then the First World.
Then the facility returned.
David looked at Elena.
"Can you control this?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Because it’s your memory."
David frowned.
"Then why are you here?"
Elena looked at his chest.
"Because you’re remembering me."
David touched the white door marking.
"It brought you back."
"No."
She shook her head.
"You brought me back."
Another tremor passed through the facility.
The founder suddenly grabbed Samuel.
"Get him out."
Samuel pulled free.
"Don’t touch me."
The founder ignored him.
"If he stays here, everything will collapse."
David turned.
"What everything?"
The founder looked toward the end of the corridor.
"The boundary."
David’s expression changed.
"The boundary is still there?"
"Not the one you remember."
"Then what is it?"
The founder hesitated.
Elena answered.
"The boundary between memory and reality."
David stared at her.
"What happens if it breaks?"
She looked at him.
"Then everything you’ve forgotten can return."
David glanced toward the corridor.
"Everything?"
"Everything."
A sound came from somewhere beneath them.
A deep metallic groan.
Then the floor split.
David grabbed Elena and pulled her backward.
The crack raced through the corridor.
Samuel jumped across it.
The founder didn’t move.
He simply stared into the opening.
David looked down.
There was no lower floor.
There was a city beneath them.
A city he had never seen.
Buildings stretched beneath the facility.
People moved through the streets.
Cars passed.
Lights flickered.
It looked normal.
Too normal.
David stared.
"What is that?"
The founder whispered.
"One of the memories."
David looked at him.
"Whose?"
The founder didn’t answer.
Elena did.
"Yours."
David’s stomach tightened.
"I’ve never been there."
"You have."
"When?"
"Before the worlds."
David looked at the city again.
Something about it felt familiar.
A street corner.
A bakery.
A red sign.
A park.
Then he saw it.
A small apartment building.
Third floor.
Window on the left.
David’s eyes widened.
"I lived there."
Elena nodded.
"Yes."
"With you."
"Yes."
The memory became clearer.
David remembered waking beside her.
Eating breakfast.
Arguing over nothing.
Falling asleep on the couch.
He remembered her laughing at him.
He remembered being happy.
Not powerful.
Not immortal.
Not responsible for worlds.
Just happy.
David’s chest tightened.
"Why did I erase this?"
Elena’s expression softened.
"Because you thought happiness made you weak."
David looked away.
"I was wrong."
"Yes."
The answer was immediate.
David looked back at her.
She smiled faintly.
"You were very wrong."
A crash echoed behind them.
The founder shouted.
"Move!"
The corridor collapsed.
David grabbed Elena’s hand.
Samuel ran ahead.
The founder followed.
They turned a corner.
The facility changed again.
The metal walls became white stone.
The floor became grass.
Then everything snapped back.
David stopped.
Samuel nearly collided with him.
"What?"
David looked around.
"We’re going in circles."
The founder shook his head.
"No."
David looked at him.
"The facility is moving."
"What?"
"The structure is rearranging itself around you."
"Why?"
The founder’s expression was grim.
"Because it was built to contain you."
David stared.
"Contain what?"
The founder looked at Elena.
She answered quietly.
"Your memories."
David’s eyes narrowed.
"Not me?"
"No."
Elena stepped closer.
"The facility was never a prison for your body."
She touched his chest.
"It was built to keep you from remembering who you were."
David looked around.
The cracks suddenly made sense.
The locked rooms.
The strange corridors.
The seven markings.
The experiments.
They hadn’t been studying him.
They had been studying the pieces he’d left behind.
David’s gaze hardened.
"You’ve been using me."
The founder didn’t deny it.
"We were trying to prevent another collapse."
"By keeping me ignorant."
"Yes."
David took a step toward him.
"And if I remembered?"
The founder looked toward Elena.
"Then the facility would no longer be necessary."
David’s eyes narrowed.
"So you knew this would happen."
"Not exactly."
"What did you expect?"
The founder’s voice became quieter.
"We expected you to remember the Crown."
David went still.
"The Crown."
He remembered it.
Not as a weapon.
Not as a symbol.
As a container.
A prison.
Something he’d created with his own hands.
"Where is it?"
The founder’s face changed.
David understood immediately.
"Where is the Crown?"
"It’s gone."
"That’s impossible."
"It disappeared when you remembered Elena."
David looked toward his chest.
The white door marking pulsed once.
Elena noticed.
"Something came through."
David looked at her.
"What?"
She didn’t answer.
A sound came from behind them.
Footsteps.
Slow.
Measured.
Someone was walking through the collapsing corridor.
Samuel turned.
His face drained of color.
"David."
David looked back.
A man stepped from the darkness.
The Crown rested on his head.
David stared.
The man looked exactly like him.
But not like the version from the memory.
Not the older Denzel.
Not the Crowned version.
This one was younger.
Maybe twenty.
He wore the same clothes David remembered wearing before everything began.
His eyes were calm.
Almost peaceful.
Elena stepped backward.
David moved in front of her.
The younger version smiled.
"You finally remembered her."
David stared.
"Who are you?"
The man tilted his head.
"You really don’t know?"
David didn’t answer.
The man touched the Crown.
"I thought you’d remember me first."
David felt something shift inside his chest.
The white door marking opened.
Just slightly.
A voice whispered from inside it.
Not the Silence.
Not Elena.
His own voice.
Don’t trust him.
David’s expression hardened.
The younger version smiled wider.
"Still listening to yourself."
David took one step forward.
"What are you?"
The man looked at Elena.
"Ask her."
David turned.
Elena’s face had gone pale.
David’s stomach tightened.
"Elena."
She looked at him.
"I didn’t know he’d come with me."
"Who is he?"
She hesitated.
The younger version answered for her.
"I’m the reason you killed her."
David froze.
Elena closed her eyes.
The corridor became silent.
David looked at the man.
"What did you say?"
The younger version removed the Crown.
He held it out.
"Before you erased yourself, you created me."
David didn’t move.
"You created the part of yourself that could remember everything."
The Crown trembled in his hand.
"You couldn’t trust your future self."
David’s eyes narrowed.
"So you trusted me?"
The younger version smiled.
"No."
He looked directly at David.
"I trusted the version of you that would eventually become me."
The lights went out.
Darkness swallowed the corridor.
Then the white door inside David’s chest opened completely.
And something on the other side whispered his name.
David.
Elena grabbed his hand.
"Don’t answer."
David looked at her.
He remembered her promise.
He remembered his.
Then he looked at the younger version wearing the Crown.
For the first time, David understood why the Crown had survived.
It had never been waiting for him to return.
It had been waiting for him to remember what he had done.
The younger version smiled.
"Now you know why you killed her."
David’s grip tightened around Elena’s hand.
"No."
He looked at him.
"I know why I tried to save her."
The younger version’s smile disappeared.
David stepped forward.
"And whatever happened after that..."
The white door behind his eyes opened wider.
"...I’m going to remember that too."
