“Do we get involved?” asked Fog Mountain. “There’s five eighth ranks. Me, the dao chess, and Thunder Emperor can each take one. The others should be able to jointly take one...”
Even if they couldn’t kill their opponents, at least they’d be able to save the Human King.
Those were Li Hao’s thoughts as well. The enemy was very strong with five eighth ranks in the field. Powerhouses such as the Reincarnation master were here as well. Li Hao’s group might not be able to kill the outer region exalted emperors since Long Zhang wasn’t with them this time, but at least they could rescue the Human King.
Li Hao’s group approached the battlefield.
It would be too hard to ambush five eighth ranks, and it wasn’t like he was prepared to do so either!
But just as he drew near, the dao chess suddenly looked around alertly. Number Two bristled as well. Seeing their reactions, Li Hao promptly crossed the void and left with his people!
The spot where they’d occupied exploded with a massive roar!
Several powerhouses soundlessly appeared in the void—they’d been hiding where his group was!
“The Silver Moon king is well deserving of your reputation!” laughed a frowning Reincarnation master. “You evaded the ambush so easily! It was set up for the New Martial supreme and Ash Emperor, but they aren’t the ones here, are they!”
Li Hao resurfaced not too far away, having taken shelter in the river of time. His jaw dropped.
Three eighth ranks!
Three more eighth ranks!
That made for eight eighth ranks in the battlefield! Where had these newcomers come from??
An idea occurred to him and the young man growled, “Have you... sworn fealty to another faction?”
Clearly, those three eighth ranks were most likely from the Reincarnation master’s new backers, or that faction’s spies in the east.
Eight eighth ranks! That was utterly incredible!
The Reincarnation master had made full preparations in his bid to kill the Human King. This level of strength was sufficient to kill anyone!
Li Hao had come for a good show and save the Human King while he was at it, but now it felt like they were in trouble instead!
“You guys are very smart, but it’s a pity that smart people die faster!” chuckled the Reincarnation master. “Do I need to introduce these three eighth ranks to you guys? It is not only those of the four regions that know how to work together!
“When you killed Drifting Life and the rest, that meant you’d fully set yourself against me.” His expression chilled. “Since that is the case, I will not be able to rest until I kill you! Twelve out of the sixteen worlds in the east have allied together to eliminate Thunder World.
“What a pity that you weren’t at home. Gemini has fallen, so the three that ambushed you are the world masters and dao masters of the other two eighth rank worlds!”
Such was the strength of Chaos Sky!
That faction had already quietly recruited two of the eighth rank major worlds in the eastern region to its cause. If Gemini still existed, it would be the third. That would make his Reincarnation the fourth!
Apart from Arctic Frost’s group, the rest of the worlds in the region had all flocked to Chaos Sky. This was why the Reincarnation master was so certain that he’d be able to kill the Human King this time.
If five eighth ranks weren’t enough, how about eight?
He’d planned on secretly using them against New Martial, but since it was Li Hao here instead, that was just as well. The three eighth ranks might not be able to eliminate the Silver Moon king, but they would make a retreat very difficult.
As the Reincarnation master laughed, the void changed color around them. What was empty space rippled as dao rules came into view. They formed a dao domain.
Although the Reincarnation master had been chasing the Human King for a while, he hadn’t been able to kill their prey because he’d abstained from battle. Instead, the Reincarnation master had been focused on building a domain of life and death, of reincarnation!
A sinister wind kicked up in the area. Countless wronged souls appeared, each with an imperial presence. Some were even seventh ranks!
They were much stronger than the souls Drifting Life had called upon.
The wispy beings immediately surrounded Li Hao, much to the cackling Reincarnation master’s delight.
“Fucking hell, is there a need for this??” bit off a dismayed Human King. Eight eight ranks?? Not only that, but a vast sum of souls as well. This guy hadn’t brought these methods to bear last time he fought Long Zhan!
He was in deep shit this time!
“Get the hell outta here!” the Human King shouted at Li Hao. “Go find someone to save me!”
Find who?
Ole Zhang and the rest, of course.
Hurry up and get away before you’re surrounded! You might not have a chance to leave anymore if you don’t leave now! Damn I’m so unlucky! Who would’ve thought that they would have hidden eighth ranks??
The Human King had thought that salvation was at hand when he saw Li Hao’s group arrive. But now... he reflected on his carelessness. He’d underestimated Reincarnation, mostly because the guy had been too useless last time.
He’d thought that there wasn’t much to the most likely candidate for the eastern overlord because one of the man’s eighth ranks had died right in front of him. Reincarnation had been powerless to stop it. But the truth of the matter was, there was a reason why Reincarnation had almost become the region overlord.
He’d been caught off guard in the last engagement, but quickly responded when he gathered his wits.
Three eighth ranks quickly surrounded Li Hao’s group, each of them regarding the interlopers with frosty expressions. It was like the newcomers were already dead to them. Although they could sense that their targets had three eighth ranks on their side, that was just three newly ascended ones.
Meanwhile, they were masters of the world and dao! They were veteran eighth ranks! They could easily take their opponents even when it was a three versus three!
As for Li Hao’s group of seventh ranks, the Reincarnation master had countless spirits to entrap the youngster. Some of the seventh rank souls were those that the Reincarnation master had vanquished over the years!
They were all spirits now, and the man had too many exalted emperor souls to count. Reincarnation major world had also killed numerous exalted emperors and devoured many other worlds to reach its current heights. It just hadn’t kicked up a fuss about it.
All of these dead exalted emperors were now souls in the Reincarnation master’s hell.
Li Hao didn’t say a word. He frowned at the situation. Could they get away?
With the river of time at his command, he did indeed have a chance to leave before battle officially began. But with eight eighth ranks on the spot... the Human King would die as soon as he left.
The Human King has miscalculated!
Not only that, but New Martial was absent as well. Likely because they hadn’t anticipated this would be the result. In reality, Li Hao hadn’t thought that this would be the sight that awaited him when he arrived. They’d all underestimated the Reincarnation master.
It’d been smooth sailing all along, with their goals easily accomplished at every stop. That lulled them into the falsehood that there wasn’t much to Reincarnation either. The world master had lost three eighth ranks in one battle! What was there to fear about him?
Even if he was to surround the Human King, it would be harder than ascending the heavens to kill him!
The sad truth was that they’d overestimated themselves.
Premier eighth ranks were premier eighth ranks at the end of the day, especially one who’d been ready to proclaim himself lord of the eastern region. Having suffered once at Long Zhan’s hands, he’d won Li Hao’s oversight.
If Li Hao left now, there was no way out for the Human King!
Next to the young man, Fog Mountain, Thunder Emperor, and the dao chess looked on sternly. Void, Number Two, and Orchid Forest were equally grave. Everything had been going so well and they’d come to laugh at the Human King... Why were they suddenly surrounded instead?
“Can the supreme and the rest make their way here?” Li Hao suddenly addressed the Human King.
The Human King panted, dodging the chaos beast’s devastating punch. This was his first time avoiding a direct clash, an indicator that he was reaching the end of his rope.
“I don’t know... these guys probably think... the same as me... that I am unafraid... of any eighth rank...” He took a moment to hoot with laughter. “That I won’t... die here... so they probably... won’t come...”
Perhaps they’d gone off to ambush Reincarnation major world? Or any other eighth rank world. Ole Zheng likely never fathomed that there would be eight eighth ranks here!
So that meant reinforcements would not be coming.
The Human King could’ve opted for some subterfuge and say that they would be here shortly. He would’ve made that claim with anyone else and intimidated Reincarnation at the same time. However, the Silver Moon king was his junior.
It was one thing to lose face in front of the young man, but if those guys really believed that New Martial would soon be arriving and refused to leave... they might all die here!
And so, the Human King did not lie. He started laughing at himself instead. He’d weathered all manner of trial and hardship, but was going to be defeated by the insignificant Reincarnation master.
Indeed, insignificant. The Human King had mentally dismissed this world master ever since the man lost to Long Zhan.
But as it turned out, that honor might be on his head instead.
The Reincarnation didn’t involve himself in their conversation. He simply deployed more strength of life and death and reinforced the dao domain. He was going to trap both sides here today and kill them all!
Only then would Reincarnation’s shame be washed away!
“Kill them! Kill them all! All dao strength, dao crystals, and everything can go to the fellow daoists. Reincarnation major world will not claim anything!” The world master’s voice rumbled through the void. His face wore a dispassionate expression.
Countless souls rushed Li Hao’s group. Fog Mountain and the rest looked urgently at the young man. Do they fight or do they run?
They would be mired down here if they fought. It would be hard to withdraw then, even with the river of time. The Human King clearly couldn’t hold out for long. Once he died and the other five eighth ranks convened, then the Silver Moon group would all be dead as well.
Li Hao rapidly ran through different ideas before laughing, “Senior Human King, it’s your turn to owe me one! We fight!”
What else could they do at this point?
“Release all of the Silver Moon exalted emperors and have them focus on the spirits!” he transmitted to Number Two. “Unseal Great Li World at a critical moment and have all of the exalted emperors join the fight!”
He’d paid off his debt to the Human King last time, but New Martial and Silver Moon were of the same entity. Besides, the Human King had taken the risk of killing the Utmost Dark master when Silver Moon exited the Star Gate. That created an opportunity for the world.
As they said, sometimes favors were the hardest to keep a tally of.
