Chapter 2066: Order and Disorder (II)

The edge of the northern region.

Turmoil shook the worlds and powerhouses fled in all directions. They were cut down by an existence in the shadows before they could escape. Immense figures hovered in the surroundings. All of the escaping cultivators were executed by the Nine Layer Guard lying in wait.

The northern region swung wildly, but the chaos... was incredibly quiet.

There was no expression on Chaos Sky’s face. Let it all fall to pieces! The disruption of the north was self-crippling. How could Skymetal and the others really allow their territory to dissolve into pandemonium like this?

“Such is the purpose of the Nine Layer Guard. They ensure the chaos’ partition and that light shines upon the worlds. Darkness is expelled, which is where the guard walks through! The guard exists while darkness persists. When darkness vanishes, that is when the Nine Layer Guard reappears!”

The shadows within the dark!

There would be no Nine Layer Guard without darkness. Their shadows could be found everywhere within the gloom. They were the vanguard of the darkness and the existence that dispelled it. It was a complicated and contradictory concept.

The darkness might never be eliminated, which meant that the guard would always be there.

Each member of the guard looked at Chaos Sky with an ardent look.

“We will follow unto our deaths, driving out darkness, building order, and ensuring a clear and bright chaos!” the leader of the guard barked out.

The rest of them growled in agreement, shaking the vicinity.

“Order encompasses all daos, including darkness.” Chaos Sky smiled. “But darkness will not be a mainstream dao in order, neither will disorder be a mainstay of order!

“Disorder has come to us from the depths of the chaos, perhaps to curtail the expansion of order. In that case, we will naturally not permit him to achieve his goals! I will personally eradicate Disorder on this campaign and the rest of you... are to dispatch all enemies! We will exterminate the will of disorder in the north!”

“Understood!” chorused the group with increasing fervor.

Chaos Sky set off through the void and raced toward the core of the northern region.

Disorder, I’m coming for you!

The ninth layer.

A massive world hovered at the peak of the ninth layer. Li Hao stood in the void, so insignificant that it was like he didn’t exist. He watched silently, sensing the strength of order in the surroundings. It was formidable, yet also imparted a bizarre sensation like it could correct everything.

The queen’s divine nation was a similar kind of existence, one that was even more blunt than the western region. Li Hao had also felt that it wasn’t very appropriate, so he’d decided to create another chaos and move the humans they’d saved before into a relatively safer place.

But now that he thought about it... was the relatively safer false chaos another locale similar to the west? Would there be some power of faith within its order to decrease everyone’s desire to kill?

“No... there shouldn’t be. Eliminating desire means that it is only a matter of time before society falls apart. There is a need for desire!” Li Hao was beginning to understand.

He might have originally wanted to create something similar to the nation of order in the west, but actually coming here helped him obtain a deeper understanding of things.

When people lacked desire and emotion, only obedience was left. Whether it was the development of society, improvement of civilization, comprehension of cultivation, or innovation in dao...

All of that would stagnate.

When everyone felt that their current society was the best iteration possible, then they would no longer have any ambitions to change or take another step forward. That society would then teeter on the edge of disaster.

“The false chaos should not only have order and rules, but also desire!” Li Hao murmured to himself.

Chaos Sky had paid a steep price and bequeathed a lot into creating his nation of order, but also confiscated a lot of people’s desires, emotions, and ambitions. That should not have been done.

Granted, the situation might have been simpler before. Perhaps Chaos Sky had thought that he would gradually loosen restrictions in the future.

He should’ve understood that a perfect utopia was not possible.
