Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord
Chapter 775 - 772 Whispering Dawn
Chapter 775: Chapter 772 Whispering Dawn
Hiss... As soon as the glass cups were brought out, the people around them gasped, staring blankly at the three crystal-clear glass cups, their eyes burning with fervor.
The service at the Iron Hammer Tavern was fast. In no time, the food was served, along with three bottles of ale.
The waiter stared at the three crystal-clear glasses on the table. His previously arrogant expression went blank, and any boastful words he had prepared died in his throat.
"What kind of ale is this?" Dahlia asked nonchalantly. The Iron Hammer Tavern’s ale was bottled in grey ceramic jugs, which were already much better than the bottles used for many wines in the Siacan Kingdom.
"This is called Fragrant Wheat Ale, the signature brew of our Iron Hammer Tavern." At the mention of the ale, a look of pride immediately returned to the waiter’s face.
"Oh, then we must try it," Dahlia replied noncommittally.
The waiter was very observant. Noticing Dahlia’s expression, he quickly asked, "Is this your first time at our Iron Hammer Tavern, ladies?"
"Yes, it is our first time visiting your establishment," Dahlia nodded.
"Hehe... Esteemed guests, our Fragrant Wheat Ale is famous throughout the entire Deepstone Kingdom. If you don’t believe me, please have a taste." The waiter spoke politely, but his words were brimming with confidence and pride.
"Oh? Is it really that good?" Dahlia asked, feigning surprise while secretly chuckling inside.
"Even the royal family loves to drink the Fragrant Wheat Ale from our Iron Hammer Tavern," The waiter declared proudly and confidently. "You’ll know once you try it."
"Then we really must give it a try," Elisa said softly.
"Let me pour it for you, esteemed guests." The waiter deftly popped the corks and filled the three drinking bowls he had brought over. Soon, the aroma of wheat ale wafted through the air.
The three women exchanged glances. The ale was indeed fragrant, but compared to Whispering Dawn or bamboo-tube wine, this Fragrant Wheat Ale still fell short.
"I’ll try it." Elisa picked up a bowl and took a sip. Immediately, a bitter, spicy burn spread from her throat down to her stomach. Afterward, a faint wheat aroma lingered in her mouth, but it was tinged with an unpleasant bitterness.
Seeing the elf furrow her brows slightly, Dahlia and Mira immediately felt reassured.
Elisa slowly shook her head, a faint smile on her lips, and said with a hint of disappointment, "This ale... is slightly better than what I’ve had in other cities."
Beside her, Mira kept her eyes lowered and her expression carefully neutral, trying her best to hold back a laugh. She had already guessed what was about to happen.
Step, step, step...
"Beautiful lady, judging by your expression, you don’t seem very satisfied with this ale."
A voice suddenly rang out as a young dwarf walked over, stopping in front of Elisa and the others.
The three women looked at the newcomer curiously. Sensing no hostility from him, they relaxed slightly.
"And you are?" Dahlia asked coldly.
"My name is Muller. Greetings, beautiful ladies." The young dwarf presented himself with considerable grace.
"He’s the eldest son of the owner of the Iron Hammer Tavern. I heard he was recently made a Viscount."
"Yeah, granted a Viscounty at such a young age. His future is limitless."
"Isn’t it just because his family controls the most iron mines?"
"..."
Some of the other patrons were secretly discussing him, though their voices weren’t exactly quiet, allowing Dahlia’s group to overhear them. The three women exchanged discreet glances. Sure enough, this Muller standing before them was their primary target.
A tavern was the best place for fine liquor to attract attention. They just hadn’t expected to draw out their target the moment they arrived.
"We have had better drinks than this," Elisa said with a faint smile, setting down her bowl.
"Oh?" Muller raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "This Fragrant Wheat Ale is already one of the finest brews known to humans. Even the other top-tier ales might not necessarily beat it."
Dwarves loved strong alcohol. Among the ales of siMirar grade, dwarves still generally preferred the Fragrant Wheat Ale; it was just a matter of personal preference.
"Why not try the liquor I brought?" Dahlia gestured with her hand. Kasi, standing behind her, stepped forward and deftly unsealed a bottle of Whispering Dawn.
Instantly, an intoxicatingly refreshing aroma spilled out, capturing the attention of everyone inside the tavern.
She had been wondering how to find an excuse to open a bottle and make a scene; she hadn’t expected someone to step up and cooperate so quickly.
Gulp...
The tavern instantly fell dead silent. Elisa could distinctly hear the sound of numerous people swallowing hard.
Especially Muller—his eyes were glued to the opened bottle of Whispering Dawn.
A triumphant smirk played on Kasi’s lips as he proceeded to fill the three glass cups with Whispering Dawn.
"This..." Only then did Muller realize that the liquor was stored in a premium ceramic jug. Even more shocking was that the drinking vessels were actually glass cups—what unbelievable extravagance!
One had to understand that such crystal-clear colored glass cups could only be seen in the estates of Grand Dukes or within the Royal Palace.
"Those are glass cups! And they’re actually using them to drink alcohol."
"Too extravagant."
"..."
The surrounding patrons stared wide-eyed, gazing fervently at the three cups.
Dahlia looked at Muller, who was audibly gulping, and chuckled lightly. "Try it."
"..." Muller hesitated. Not just because of the liquor, but also because of the group’s mysterious identities. Anyone casually bringing out glass cups and such exquisite wine could not possibly have a simple background.
Could she be a princess from some kingdom?
Dahlia knew he had reservations, so she picked up her drink and elegantly took a small sip, letting a look of deep satisfaction and enjoyment spread across her face.
"Please!" Dahlia pushed one of the cups of liquor toward Muller, gesturing for him to partake.
This time, Muller only hesitated for a second. The aroma of the wine was simply too tempting to resist. He carefully took the cup, deeply inhaling its fragrance, and finally couldn’t help but take a sip.
"Good! I’ve never had such delicious alcohol in my life!" Muller’s eyes widened, and he couldn’t stop exclaiming in praise.
"How does this compare to this Fragrant Wheat Ale?" Dahlia asked with a soft chuckle, a look of pride on her face. When it was time to show arrogance, she had to play the part.
"Better. So much better! After tasting this, I’m afraid I won’t be able to stomach Fragrant Wheat Ale ever again," Muller laughed heartily. He then glanced at the opened Fragrant Wheat Ale with a look of sudden disdain.
The tavern waiter standing to the side was completely dumbfounded. Is this liquor really that good? However, just smelling the aroma, he had to admit it was incredibly enticing.
"Please, have a seat," Dahlia finally offered.
"With pleasure," Muller smiled lightly and took a seat.
Watching Muller sit down, Dahlia signaled Kasi to pour him another glass; after all, Muller’s eyes hadn’t left the bottle of Whispering Dawn for a second.
"Thank you!" Muller said quickly. He downed the cup in one gulp and praised, "Excellent wine. What is it called?"
"Whispering Dawn," Dahlia replied calmly.
