Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic
Chapter 2385: Pale Justice
Chapter 2385: Chapter 2385: Pale Justice
At this moment, another small earthquake occurred in the real world, though Shard was unaware. He simply looked up and saw that the orb of light seemed to be absorbing an endless stream of mist and glimmers from the mist, even the hazy moon was being slowly absorbed like a drop of water.
The orb rapidly expanded until it transformed into a "Photonic Dragon" that obscured the sky within the mist.
The pure energy-formed dragon was next covered by a fierce, bone-like armor in the next moment, and Shard’s eyes were drawn to the scapular position of the orb of light, where he spotted a not-too-large, not-too-small piece of bone embedded firmly within the Light Dragon’s body.
"This is the core source of the anomaly emerging at the Edge of Life and Death."
Sister Delphine stood beside Shard and spoke softly, as Shard nodded, holding the nun’s hand. The next second, the two appeared above the dragon.
The Dark Gold Scythe chopped downwards, the bone armor held for two seconds before disintegrating into dust drifting into the thick mist, but the armor’s obstruction left the dragon’s main body unharmed.
The Photonic Dragon swept its tail towards the two in the air, but after the enormous tail was neatly sliced by the scythe, it faced the Thunder Spear thrown from Shard’s hand head-on.
Amidst the raging silver thunder, sparks and some pink aura burst forth. The thunder exploded on the Light Dragon’s surface, the thunderous sound echoing across the entire Moon Bay Bridge. Amidst the dragon’s screams, clusters of pink crystals rapidly spread across its body.
Even a photonic spiritual body could not block the effect of the "Love God’s Sting" specifically targeting souls.
The suffering Photonic Dragon turned to open its mouth, attempting to bite the two floating in the air. But at that moment, Sister Delphine removed her blindfold single-handedly and merely "looked" at it, causing the entire dragon’s spiritual body to stiffen within the mist.
The pink crystals grew rapidly in clusters atop its surface, the Unusual Glow and the crystals constantly eroding each other, unable to prevent the Arcane Technique from continuing to exert its power.
Behind the stiffened dragon, a phantom-like life ring of the Eight Rings Sorcerer forcibly emerged and slowly rotated. The life ring was likewise tainted with a peculiar white glow, yet its appearance could not help the dragon escape the soul curse inflicted by the Chosen by Death, only forcing its eyes to shoot two beams of white light towards the two in the air.
Having prepared in advance, Shard immediately activated "Dark Magic" using the Calamity Cards in hand, causing those two beams of white light to silently annihilate within the suddenly emerging darkness.
The nun quickly put her blindfold back on before Shard turned his head and handed the task of delivering the final blow over to Shard.
However, Shard did not take out the [Higgs Dragonhead Stone], instead temporarily handing the [Time Flute] to Sister Delphine. Then, he took off the black Time Key from his chest. With his fist facing down and tightly clutching the key, as pure white light overflowed from his fingers, in the spreading rays of light on either side, the [Yggdrasil’s Staff] emerged.
Beside him, Sister Delphine suddenly looked at the longsword in her hand; just a moment ago, the [Time Flute] seemed to tremble slightly with the appearance of that pitch-black long staff.
Yet Shard did not pay any attention to this; he inhaled deeply before grasping the long staff with his right hand and lifting it. His left leg retreated as his body slightly twisted towards the rear side. As the first arc of silver-white lightning emerged from his right hand, in an instant, the entire staff was engulfed by the jumping silver thunder.
The restless thunder grew increasingly powerful, entirely enveloping the staff to the extent that its original form was obscured. Shard’s enormous Seven Ring Life Ring likewise appeared behind him, and with the final charging complete, Shard removed the emblem hanging from his chest with his left hand, then tossed it into the sky ahead:
"Praise the Angel of Death—Thunder Spear!"
The thrown emblem fell through the sky, while the silver-white thunder nearly the instant it was released precisely hit the emblem, appearing in front of the stiffened Photonic Dragon in the air the next moment.
The Thunder Spear, carrying that emblem, accurately struck the dragon’s right shoulder bone. After the silver-white thunder pierced the dragon atop Moon Bay Bridge, it seemed to freeze in the air, as if halted by Time Pause.
Clusters of pink crystals swiftly covered the entire spiritual body, and in a sharp blast that wasn’t particularly loud, the entire pink crystal dragon erupted into scattering crystal dust and vanished into the mist—
"The family’s wish still couldn’t be fulfilled."
A lament of unknown origin resounded through the mist, while a throng of Red Butterflies flew over Shard and Sister Delphine’s heads to help recover the dropped weapons and articles.
The Great Witch of Destiny then stepped towards the two in the mist:
"Shard, that final strike was truly beautiful."
The vermilion birthmark on her brow inexplicably glowed a little.
"You’ve never seen Iluna’s ’Sunlight Gun’; now that’s a real spectacle."
Shard spoke softly, aware that despite the ease of the battle, Sister Delphine’s presence was the primary factor. Having advanced to Twelve Rings, the nun, although not the strongest existing Chosen One, Shard did not believe the Earth Guardians would certainly triumph over her.
After all, Sister Delphine specializes in restraining spiritual bodies, while the Guardians happen to be spiritual bodies.
"The issue has been resolved."
The Countess used the divination cards to calculate again, easily drawing a conclusion. She didn’t feel ashamed for not participating in the battle, instead felt she played her role:
"Nun, can you open a passage from here to let us return directly? Or do we need to go back to the position we entered from? From the sound, the church’s team is almost arriving."
Before Sister Delphine could speak, Grace’s voice echoed from the mist:
"Sir, before leaving here, you need to deal with this thing first."
The sisters separated once more, Helen holding the black magic wand she couldn’t use and Shard’s pendant, while her sister Grace held a red light orb, within it floated a shoulder blade emitting a pale glow.
The Countess merely glanced at it before widening her eyes, quickly retreating behind Shard, while Sister Delphine turned to "look" at the bone temporarily confined by Grace.
Death’s influence, even restricted by such a top-tier humanoid angel-level relic as the Red Butterfly Twins, still tried to invade the red glow symbolizing the power of the red butterfly. The surrounding mist rapidly repelled due to the bone, while the cold wind gradually blew as Grace approached everyone.
"This is the root cause of the problem this time!"
Miss Belindel peeked and said, while Shard wasn’t surprised by the appearance of the bone, he merely puzzled at the previous remnants of the Death Angel he attained, which never showed such chaotic and powerful strength:
"This is angelic remains."
He explained briefly, and without Shard’s intervention, Sister Delphine’s scythe directly touched the red glow in Grace’s hand.
The dark golden scythe’s blade seemed to stalemate with the bone, but eventually, the glowing bone dimmed, allowing Grace to sigh in relief:
"It’s sealed, but I feel this seal isn’t robust."
"The unusual glow infected it; death’s power can suppress it briefly. Next, I can carry it with me to ensure nothing goes wrong."
The nun said softly, but Shard stopped her plan:
"Carrying this isn’t safe enough, and the glow isn’t entirely harmless to you. Hand it to me, I’ll find someone to handle it."
He said as he took the bone from the red glow, which remained cold in hand, but fortunately, the death power of the bone and the glow attached temporarily couldn’t harm Shard.
As they spoke, three figures appeared in the mist behind them. Turning to look, Miss Sylvia and Miss Lathis, realizing the battle had ended, walked over with Iluna:
"Good evening, Shard."
The eighteen-year-old girl greeted with a smile, glanced at the people around, and only spoke after confirming they were familiar:
"Seeing that beautiful thunder spear in the mist earlier, I guessed it might be you. But, is it only you here? I thought the Chosen One of Light would show up... Before I ventured deep into the mist, the church speculated that this incident was orchestrated by the Light Worshipper Training Association or the Dragon Feast Cult to lure the Chosen One."
Shard noticed she held a sword, seemingly ordinary but made him frown:
"Relic? Another holy sword?"
"Yes,"
Iluna directly handed the sword, inserted in a silver scabbard, to him:
"Weren’t we told before, the True God Church called several holy swords from other districts to Moon Bay to try their luck? I was assigned one, though I don’t particularly like this sword, Shard’s Night Watchman suits me better."
Shard temporarily handed the bone to the nun, unsheathed the sword from the scabbard, its hilt wrapped in black cloth, the blade polished to a shining silver. Shard had seen many holy swords in Moon Bay recently, but this sword was the most simple and unadorned.
The longsword had no decoration, except for the ancient inscription on the guard, "Pale and modest is justice, yet far from powerless," with no other engravings.
Simple and plain, yet holding it felt extremely weighty. The inherent primitive heaviness of the sword made one instinctively believe the weapon was reliable. If one stared at it, the feeling of perfectly natural simplicity would involuntarily arise.
"Angel-Level Relic - Pale Justice, since it’s the sword of an ancient holy paladin, its trait relates to this too. Similar to the Night Watchman, this sword allows long-term wielders to master the sword’s inherited skills, yet unlike the Night Watchman, this sword’s skills include cold weapon combat techniques, like the archaic ’Evil-Slaying Slash,’ and also incorporate the spellcasting abilities and skills of a holy paladin."
