Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic

Chapter 2384: Dragonborn Knight

  • Next Chapter

If not for the assurance that the spatial integrity of this strange glowing white mist had not been compromised, Shard would have even suspected that a rift leading to True Death had appeared ahead in the direction they were moving.

The vibration of the badge on his chest was growing stronger, and the indistinct sounds of battle from the mist were drawing closer to the bridge. In any case, the matter here indeed needed to be resolved quickly.

Finally, a shadow appeared ahead in the glowing thick mist. And as the group continued forward, they saw an Armor Knight holding a black metal long spear, standing alone at the center of Moon Bay Bridge.

In the real world, this part of the bridge was not yet completed.

He was clad in full body armor, making it impossible to discern his appearance, but from the slightly furrowed brows of the two Witches, it was clear he was male.

The white mist around him seemed to be repelled by some unseen force field, and the abnormal moonlight seeping from the gaps in his armor made him look like an unstable bomb; merely looking at him gave a sensation of being pricked by needles.

The Countess, tugging at Shard’s sleeve, was the first to speak:

“This armor is very familiar, and that emblem on its chest… around 500 years ago in the Sixth Era, I’m not sure of the exact time, but there was a Circle Sorcerer from the Edington Family, and he was Dragonborn!”

She recalled clearly the records she recently read in the materials:

“The books didn’t mention his name, but he was the only Dragonborn Circle Sorcerer among the Seven Great Families of the entire Sixth Era! And his bloodline seemed to come from himself, which proves the Seven Great Families themselves contain a latent Dragon Vein. I remember when he died, he was at the Eight Rings level.”

“But this posture doesn’t seem like just eight rings.”

Shard said softly, and Sister Delphine nodded slightly. The nun, with her indifferent tone, spoke in a mist that generated strange echoes:

“The abnormal light and pure death make this thousand-year-old undead more powerful.”

She turned her head slightly, letting the silver blindfold ‘look’ at Shard:

“Let the two of us handle it. The spark from the New World has made the Fire of the Primordial more complete, O Hero of the Flame, let me bring you more power.”

The Armor Knight standing at the center of the lower level of Moon Bay Bridge did not approach the halted group, while the other ladies, hearing Sister Delphine, curiously looked at them… Helen Grace wasn’t as curious, she just stood smiling beside Shard, occasionally tugging his sleeve or suddenly looking at Miss Belindel and startling her.

“Here?”

Shard asked, seeing Sister Delphine nod, then he somewhat bashfully nodded as well:

“No problem.”

As he moved, the fiery embers at the hem and cuffs of his clothes drifted into the mist. He knelt on one knee before the nun, who slightly bent over, holding both hands forward.

On her fingers appeared burn marks, with ashes drifting from the skin, and Embers of the Primal Fire traces similar to Shard’s appeared on Sister Delphine’s hands.

Then, a circular black flame core manifested in her palms, with slender orange-red flames flying upwards, and at this moment, Shard extended his right hand, placing it over Sister Delphine’s hands.

In an instant, the flames spread from the nun’s palms down Shard’s arm, igniting his entire body. Neither Shard nor Sister Delphine felt the intense heat of the flames, yet it forced the other four ladies to keep retreating.

Red Butterfly Maiden retreated the fastest, and Miss Eles’ blue eyes seemed to spark flames. Miss Belindel and Miss Sylvia stood together watching the scene of Shard being ignited on one knee, while the Countess bit her lip and said to the young Witch beside her:

“Why do I feel like something is off with this scene?”

“Is there?”

Miss Sylvia immediately turned alertly towards the Armor Knight still standing motionless in the mist:

“Do you feel something? That undead hasn’t moved at all~”

“No, I mean… you’re still too young, can’t you see, he and the nun… I just feel there’s something unusual about their relationship.”

Her voice was low enough that only Miss Sylvia could hear, and since the mist itself absorbed sound, there was no worry of others hearing.

[Outlander, you have touched the ‘Fire of the Primordial.’]

The voice beside his ear remained clear even in the mist:

[Outlander, when using some Arcane Techniques, you can integrate the power of the Fire of the Primordial. Note, the special spellcasting method that consumes flames will intensify the consumption of the Spirit.]

The blazing flames gradually converged on Shard until they returned to their original state of “Embers of the Primal Fire”. Shard stood up, and from the translucent blade of the silver Moonlight Greatsword he grasped in the air, the flowing crimson flames outlined those ancient runes.

He smiled and put away the “Moonlight Greatsword”, taking back the [Time Flute] from Miss Eles beside him. The flames then flowed onto the wooden Longsword, the firelight making the sword seem to extend a significant length from thin air.

Sister Delphine also withdrew the flames from her palm and straightened her waist, the scythe stuck in the bridge nearby was again grasped in her hand, and she didn’t seem intent on using the Angel-Level Longsword [Ashes].

“I’ll go check around the bridge, to prevent others from disturbing you.”

The Blue Dragon Girl volunteered, and Miss Sylvia spoke up as well:

“I’ll go with you.”

The Countess knew her strength was lacking, so she didn’t volunteer to go too. But as Miss Eles and the other moved, she quickly realized that once they left, it would just be her and the girl in the black and white dress left here.

“I also…”

She quickly wanted to say this, but the white fog had already swallowed the departing two. So the Countess had to shut her mouth, wanting to move away slightly but fearing that moving too far would affect their relationship.

But Grace and Helen didn’t pay any mind to the witch struggling with various things nearby. The Red Butterfly Maiden watched as the nun and Shard walked toward the knight standing at the center of the Tower Bridge, and the Armor Knight who had remained unmoved finally reached out to pull from the bridge the Longsword, turning to face them.

The pitch-black Longsword vaguely bore traces of Dragon Scales. As Shard, who was walking side by side with the nun, suddenly leaped forward and appeared in front of the knight in the next moment.

The pitch-black Longsword swept horizontally forward, clanging against the [Time Flute]. The collision produced such great force that both Shard and the knight’s footprints were imprinted on the bridge, and then Sister Delphine, jumping high from behind Shard, swung her scythe directly downward.

The pitch-black Light Trace even made Shard feel a mortal threat; the armored knight’s body didn’t move at all while a thick black Shadow behind it swung out, clashing with the scythe.

The brass-colored dragon’s tail was cleanly cut off, and that knight’s Longsword melted in the flame attached to the [Time Flute].

So the Undead Knight simply let go of its weapon, the instant it punched with Shard and retreated three steps, spreading its dragon wings behind which repelled the fireball Sister Delphine threw, then soared fiercely upward with the ignited wings.

It crashed directly through the upper bridge deck, heading to the upper level of the Tower Bridge. Shard immediately transformed into a swarm of red butterflies chasing after it; the nun also flew silently upwards.

The Red Butterfly Maiden likewise scattered into a swarm of red-glowing butterflies chasing after them while Miss Belindel, unable to fly, was astonished by the changing battlefield, and then saw those glowing eerie butterflies flying over.

The butterflies surrounded her, carrying her off the bridge, then flew from the side to the upper level of the Tower Bridge.

And when both stood in the fog seeing Shard again, Shard holding the [Time Flute] and Sister Delphine holding the scythe were attacking the armored knight in the increasingly repelling dense fog, one in front of the other on the bridge deck.

Its half-severed dragon tail and ignited wings had already retracted, holding a black dragon-scaled Longsword in each hand; even facing two opponents at once, it could block Shard and the nun’s weapons in the fog.

The clanging sounds, sparks from collisions, and swirling firelight and black light made the mist’s glowing sheen even more distinct.

The Grand Witch of “Fate” astutely noticed that the ghost controlling the Dragonborn Knight’s abnormal light could directly confront Shard’s moonlight, and its pure Power of Death could even momentarily resist Sister Delphine’s scythe.

“No.”

The Red Butterfly Maiden, as if understanding her thoughts, spoke to correct her:

“That light and pure death are indeed powerful, but either of them alone has the ability to end the battle immediately. The fight looks spectacular now, but it’s only because the knight’s melee combat skills are very high.”

As if to validate their remarks, in the flickering firelight, the [Time Flute] again cut the knight’s Longsword, the Cavalier Slash momentum unabated directly beheading the knight.

As the Spirit Body’s head silently dissipated into the bridge’s fog, Sister Delphine’s scythe finally cut off the strange gray-white cyclone attached to the knight’s left-hand Longsword, then the Power of Death severed the knight’s entire right arm.

Struck by Sister Delphine, the “Chosen by Death” attack should have immediately withered the soul, yet the armored knight’s actions seemed entirely unaffected.

After losing its right arm and head, the knight’s left hand again grasped a Longsword from the air, which exploded almost instantly into expanding abnormal light, forcing Shard and Sister Delphine to retreat together.

The “crippled” knight completely merged itself into the ball of light, which then ascended directly to the sky. The light ball disturbing dense fog grew larger in this gray-white world, and meanwhile, the Moon Bay Bridge, the river beneath the bridge, and everything in the fog-covered city began shaking.
