Chapter 249: Chapter 249: The Topic Gradually

Ling Qianjun stood in the crowd, quietly listening to the people chattering away in front of him. At first, the atmosphere was quite harmonious. Like ordinary villagers, they casually discussed the mundane trivia and amusing anecdotes of the neighborhood, as if it were just an inconsequential gossip session.

However, as the conversation deepened, emotions gradually flared. What started as everyday household matters somehow morphed into exposing and debating the most private affairs of others. People spilled the deep, dark secrets of their neighbors’ backyards without restraint or filter, seemingly forgetting that relatives of the very people they were discussing might be standing right there among them.

Instantly, the once lighthearted chat turned sour. By the time someone realized these scandalous words had been spoken right in front of a family member, the situation was already out of hand. Representatives from the two families involved flew into a furious rage, pointing fingers and accusing each other of being ruthless and bringing shame to their households.

And so, a fierce argument erupted. Neither side yielded an inch. Their words grew increasingly sharp and vicious. One side loudly listed the unspeakable scandals of the other’s family, while the other side fought back just as fiercely, exposing even more unknown secrets. Back and forth they went, determined to win this shouting match and prove whose family had the more shocking skeletons in their closet.

Just then, a few bystanders who couldn’t bear to watch any longer stepped forward, attempting to mediate and quell the dispute. However, the two furious individuals were in no mood to listen. Not only did they reject the good intentions, but they also turned their attacks on the peacemakers, dragging up past embarrassing incidents from the mediators’ own families.

That tore it. The well-meaning peacemakers were enraged and threw themselves into the chaotic fray. For a time, curses echoed back and forth, and the entire scene devolved into an absolute mess. People argued until they were red in the face or frantically waved their arms in exasperation, spittle flying everywhere. The originally peaceful and serene rural scene was completely gone, replaced by a noisy, chaotic spectacle.

This sudden turn of events was completely unexpected for Ling Qianjun and Xu Panqing. At this moment, the two of them looked like they belonged to a completely different picture compared to the fiery, cursing villagers before them. They stood as still as statues, a stark contrast to the deafening uproar around them.

Ling Qianjun and Xu Panqing silently and carefully nudged the soap they had set out a little further behind them, terrified that it might be trampled by the agitated, rampaging crowd.

Nobody could say exactly how long this fierce brawl lasted. It was only after a long time that the shouting finally died down. Looking at the people who had just been at each other’s throats, every single one of them was panting heavily and out of breath, having thrown themselves into the argument with such intensity that their chests heaved. Many had faces flushed as red as ripe apples, their expressions still fierce and glaring, as if their anger had not yet fully subsided.
