Chapter 992: Transformation
"Maybe," Sebastian answered. "I'm probably overthinking."
"We should return to the task at hand," Star Genesis said. "We've successfully infiltrated the Abyss. What's our next course of action?"
"We have to keep traveling and find out how the Abyss operates," Kyle said. "Right now, we're just randomly traveling through it. We don't know how we are supposed to act or how the Abyss works."
"And how do we find that out?" Sebastian asked.
"We just keep going," Kyle replied with a shrug.
"Great plan," Sebastian commented with a roll of his eyes.
"You got any better ideas?" Kyle asked with a raised brow.
"No," Sebastian answered with a sigh.
Kyle kept commanding the Demon Car to keep going east as he looked at the surroundings.
Surprisingly, as he kept going east, he noticed that the density of vegetation was decreasing. There were still plants, but they seemed more isolated and stronger. Instead of a constant presence of weaker plants, Kyle noticed the occasional presence of stronger plants. He even saw a powerful tree with Comprehension Fruits.
"There's a tree with Comprehension Fruits," Kyle commented. "Think we can do anything with that?"
"No idea," Sebastian answered. "As a Spear, I've seen a bunch of them. We usually just charge into the Abyss, kill one of these trees, grab the fruits, and return. That's one of our most common missions."
"Have you ever seen Demons grabbing one?" Kyle asked.
"No."
Kyle looked at the tree with furrowed brows. "According to the plan, we're supposed to gain some attention but not too much. We're supposed to act like we're not trying to be found. Maybe this is an opportunity to do just that."
"Try it," Sebastian said.
"Don't go too far," Star Genesis commented.
Kyle nodded as he commanded the Demon Car to approach the tree.
Then, he used a concept transmission to send a message to the tree. The concept transmission was just a desire to consume a fruit.
The tree didn't answer. Instead, one of the fruits dropped to the ground.
"It dropped a fruit but didn't answer," Kyle said. "Should we take it?"
"Yep," Sebastian said.
"Take it," Star Genesis agreed.
One of the Demon Car's claws grabbed the fruit and threw it into its mouth, which was directly connected to the isolated space where the team stayed.
Kyle grabbed the fruit and looked at it. "Water Comprehension Fruit. This might be useful later. Anyone want it?"
"We should keep it for now," Star Genesis said. "Manny said that we need to transform the Demon Car later. For that, we need resources."
"Makes sense," Kyle said.
Naturally, since the Demon Car couldn't grow in power, they wouldn't be able to stay in the Abyss for long. While it didn't have longevity constraints due to its unique form of existence, the Demons would notice if the Demon Car didn't grow or didn't die.
Because of that, Manny had given the Demon Car a specific function, but activating this function also came at a risk.
It was possible to somewhat fuse with the Demon Car. However, that wasn't easy, and it required the Demon Car to be on a similar level as Kyle. Yet, since the Demon Car couldn't grow stronger, they needed to accomplish this in a different way.
Sadly, this fusion would make it impossible to re-enter the Abyss after exiting. The reason for that was simple.
The Demon Car would condense a true Spirit, which would inevitably connect it to the Laws of Karmic Luck. Creating a Beast Core would also be possible, but it wouldn't work for their purposes. The issue with a Beast Core was that it was a combination of all Aspects of Power, making it very difficult to manipulate them individually.
If the Demon Car created a Beast Core, it would count as a real beast, but at the same time, it would also gain the sentience and instincts of a beast. It would learn and eventually resist its operator.
Yet, by creating a Spirit, it could still be manipulated. A Spirit by itself couldn't think or make decisions. A Spirit needed a mind to make autonomous decisions.
By creating a Spirit, the Demon Car's body would also receive the ability to change. By consuming Energy, it could change its body from broken Energy into real Energy, allowing it to grow and become stronger.
Of course, the downside of all of this was that they would no longer be able to pass any Karmic Luck inspections. They could just hope that there were no checkpoints inside the Abyss.
"Let's continue," Kyle said. "The more resources we can get, the easier it will be later."
The others agreed, and Kyle told the Demon Car to keep going east.
They found another tree with Comprehension Fruits and managed to gather another one.
As they kept traveling, Kyle noticed that the Elemental Displays changed.
They started to become orderly.
The number of chaotic displays lowered, and the number of actual Law Wells increased. At the same time, Kyle could also see some vegetation, but he still couldn't see any animals. Technically, animals could exist in this space, but there were none.
'I think I know what's going on,' he thought as he saw a large tree with flowers. 'This place has the same conditions as the other ones, but instead of many smaller plants, there's only one plant. I think that's what's happening. Even though plants look peaceful, there's a slow and constant struggle for supremacy.'
'A big tree towering over a couple of flowers might seem beautiful and peaceful to humans, but in plant life, that's a powerful hegemon that's hogging all the sunlight for itself, refusing to give the flowers any of it. At the same time, it's absorbing all of the water in the ground, leaving not a lot for the flowers.'
'These isolated places with plants are just breeding grounds for powerful plants. Due to the presence of so many Law Wells, the density of Elemental Energy is very high. If one of the plants manages to absorb and make use of one of these kinds of Elemental Energies, it will grow much stronger. At the same time, this plant would attune with that Element, and eventually, it would create Comprehension Fruits of that Element.'
While Kyle was thinking about the plants, he noticed something.
There was a lone Demon traveling from east to west. It was not very powerful. In fact, this was the first Mortal Demon Kyle had ever seen.
The Mortal Demon approached the big tree, and a moment later, the tree dropped one of its fruits.
The Mortal Demon grabbed the fruit and consumed it. Afterwards, it went to one of the closest Law Wells, a volcano that was spouting all aspects of Yang-Fire.
The Mortal Demon lay down on the volcano, and its body stopped moving.
The Yang-Fire of the volcano entered the body, changing its color and shape. It grew red, and its scales started to resemble flames.
It suddenly caught on fire, and one moment later, the Demon's entire body collapsed, turning into a flame.
Lastly, Kyle witnessed the flame distort. It became more and more transparent until...
It was gone.
"What the fuck?" Kyle quietly spoke to himself.
"What?" Sebastian asked.
"You won't believe this," Kyle said, "but I think..."
"I just saw a Demon turning into an Elemental and going to the Elemental Dimension."
