Strongest War Emperor

Chapter 797 What Kind of Bird Are You?

  • Next Chapter

Although they had escaped from the Twelve All Heaven Beast Array, Monk Bu Se couldn’t relax at all.

The consequences of offending four Emperor Martial Realm experts were far too severe.

The worst part was, Shen Lang didn’t seem to want to turn back the way they came.

It looked like he wanted to continue through the Twelve All Heaven Beast Array!

If they did that, the chances of running into those four would practically skyrocket!

Just then, Shen Lang yawned and said, “It’s not as complicated as you think. Right now, at most, they only want to slice me into pieces…”

“Only… only slice you into pieces? Grand Martial Uncle, don’t tell me there’s something even worse?” Monk Bu Se’s knees went weak.

Shen Lang grinned. “There is. We need to use them to get through this grand hall… By then, they’ll probably want to chop me into bits. See? Isn’t that worse than being sliced into pieces?”

Monk Bu Se: “…”

At that moment, Shen Lang took out a rectangular white Wooden Token and, with a few quick strokes, wrote a line of words on it.

“Boundless is the sea of suffering; repent and the shore is at hand!”

Then, Shen Lang attached the Wooden Token to a wooden stick, pointed at the Teleportation Gate, and said, “Take this sign and go stand next to the Teleportation Gate.”

With a miserable look on his face, Monk Bu Se said, “Aren’t… aren’t we turning back? Why don’t we just go back?”

Shen Lang glared at him. “Getting through this array is a piece of cake. Why would we turn back? Look at you, so spineless. Don’t you dare call me Grand Martial Uncle again!”

Monk Bu Se’s mind went completely blank. He quickly changed the subject. “Um… what’s the point of writing ‘Boundless is the sea of suffering; repent and the shore is at hand!’ on a sign and putting it here?”

Shen Lang put on an unfathomable expression. “As the Buddha said: It cannot be told, it cannot be told.”

With that, Shen Lang swaggered over to a patch of grass near the cliff, lay down, and crossed his legs, rocking them back and forth.

Monk Bu Se was full of questions, unable to figure out what was going on. He frowned one moment and rolled his eyes the next, his expression a picture of bewilderment.

With his eyes closed, Shen Lang explained, “The Twelve All Heaven Beast Array isn’t an Evil Array. It’s just a playful Grand Array. It’s not as difficult as you imagine…”

“No way,” Monk Bu Se said, wiping sweat from his brow. “It can trap even Emperor Martial Realm Late Stage experts, and there’s an endless tide of Fierce Beasts. There were even Emperor Martial Realm-level Fierce Beasts right at the entrance… You call that playful?”

Shen Lang laughed. “You saw it yourself. The moment you step into one of those light shields, all threats vanish. What kind of Evil Array would give you a chance to catch your breath? Or provide a place to hide?”

“Huh, now that you mention it, that does seem strange!” It finally dawned on Monk Bu Se.

Shen Lang continued, “Breaking this array is, in a way, next to impossible. But in another, it’s incredibly simple.”

Monk Bu Se shook his head. “I don’t understand.”

Shen Lang added, “There are twelve light shields in the grand hall. When all twelve shields are occupied, the array will be broken. Understand now?”

“But if you can’t gather twelve people, even those four Emperor Martial Realm Late Stage experts we just met will face certain death, with no chance of escape.”

Monk Bu Se’s eyes lit up. “I get it! So we just need to wait for people here? There are already four people inside, plus the two of us… so we just need six more?”

“The two of us don’t count,” Shen Lang replied. “We need eight more people to go in. Once all twelve light shields are occupied, the array will break.”

“Once all twelve people have entered the light shields, the Grand Array will enter a dormant state, and the twelve people inside will be completely trapped. That’s when we can just stroll on through.”

Monk Bu Se broke out in a heavy sweat. “Amitabha… are we going to walk over their dead bodies to get through? Grand Martial Uncle, this is a bit… We should reconsider…”

“It’s not what you think,” Shen Lang interrupted. “The light shields trapping them is more like a prank. At most, they’ll be stuck for an hour. It’s just meant to give them a scare.”

“After an hour, the Twelve All Heaven Beast Array will be completely broken, and from then on, anyone can pass through this grand hall without obstruction.”

At this, Shen Lang sighed. “Unfortunately, it’s only for one hour. No matter how fast we are during that hour, we can’t outrun those four Emperor Martial Realm Late Stage guys.”

“…” The look of joy that had just appeared on Monk Bu Se’s face vanished, and he almost fainted.

‘One moment it’s Heaven, the next it’s Hell. This roller coaster could drive a sane person mad!’

‘Isn’t this all your doing? So what’s the plan now?’

‘Being hunted by four Emperor Martial Realm experts… jumping off a cliff would be a mercy!’

‘If they catch us, even dying will be a luxury!’

He only dared to think these things, of course. He would never say them out loud.

Frowning at the wooden stick in his hands, Monk Bu Se asked again, “Since we need eight more people to go in, Grand Martial Uncle, what’s the point of having your disciple stand here with this sign? Are we trying to persuade them not to enter?”

“That’s right, to persuade them not to enter,” Shen Lang said leisurely. “If you and I are just lazing around outside the gate without doing anything, people will think something’s fishy.”

“Don’t worry. People are very cunning these days. When they see you acting like this, they’ll be convinced there’s nothing wrong inside.”

Just then, two middle-aged men in green robes leaped up from the mountain path below, their feet barely touching the ground. They quickly arrived on the platform.

When the two saw a monk holding up a Wooden Token that read “Boundless is the sea of suffering; repent and the shore is at hand,” they both froze for a moment.

“Monk, what are you doing?” one of them couldn’t help but ask.

Monk Bu Se immediately shouted, “Amitabha! Boundless is the sea of suffering; repent and the shore is at hand!”

The two middle-aged men in green robes cursed with a laugh, “Dumbass!”

After cursing at Monk Bu Se, the two men dove into the Teleportation Gate without another word.

“Amitabha… Human nature… is truly a curious thing…” Monk Bu Se said blankly, standing there in a daze for a moment.

Shen Lang immediately praised him, “Mm, not bad, little monk. You’ve got potential. I see good things for you!”

The words had barely left his mouth when a woman wearing tight-fitting black Scale Armor and a Bronze Mask walked slowly up one of the mountain paths.

The woman’s Scale Armor was rather form-fitting, revealing her exquisite figure.

Her ample chest seemed ready to burst forth. Her figure was slender but didn’t give an impression of frailty, and she immediately captured Monk Bu Se’s full attention.

However, she wore a Bronze Mask that obscured her face, leaving only a pair of exceptionally sharp eyes visible, like those of a Black Panther in the jungle.

Monk Bu Se swept his Divine Thought over her and was stunned yet again: this woman in the Bronze Mask only had a Cultivation of King Martial Realm Second Heaven!

As for Shen Lang, Monk Bu Se had long since written him off as an anomaly. Ordinary Martial Arts Realms seemed to mean nothing to him, so Monk Bu Se would consider anything Shen Lang did to be normal.

But for a woman at King Martial Realm Second Heaven to arrive at this second level all by herself, and ahead of so many others…

That truly shocked Monk Bu Se!

Just then, Monk Bu Se saw the woman silently glance at the Wooden Token in his hand before turning her gaze to Shen Lang, who was lying on the ground on the other side.

Shen Lang, chewing on a blade of grass, was also sizing up this somewhat strange woman.

A man and a woman, both wearing masks.

One wore an Evil Ghost Mask, which was a bit creepy.

The other wore a Bronze Mask, adding to her mystique.

As their eyes met, both of them were momentarily startled!

The woman then naturally averted her gaze and walked slowly to the other side, leaning against the cliff wall.

She moved without a sound, and a faint power enveloped her, making it feel as if she had merged with her surroundings.

‘Strange, I feel like I’ve seen those eyes somewhere before. Cold and merciless, and carrying a trace of Evil Qi…’

The corner of Shen Lang’s mouth twitched, and he reached up to remove the blade of grass.

Monk Bu Se glanced at the mysterious woman, then at Shen Lang, his eyes darting back and forth, but in the end, he said nothing.

None of the three spoke, maintaining a strange and awkward equilibrium.

More than two hours passed before two more people finally arrived.

But the moment he saw them, Monk Bu Se’s heart sank, and a bitter taste filled his mouth!

“Yin Tianchou!”

It was none other than Yin Tianchou, the man who had previously asked Monk Bu Se for Shen Lang’s whereabouts!

Yin Tianchou and Duan Chenfeng were incredibly fast, flying up the mountain path like the wind.

While still a long way off, his gaze shifted and took in the three people on the second-level platform!

“After wearing out my iron shoes looking for you, I find you here without any effort at all! Master, you led us on quite a chase…”

Yin Tianchou was decisive. With a sharp SHING, he drew a water-blue Longsword and walked slowly toward Shen Lang and Monk Bu Se.

The moment the Longsword was drawn, a faint mirage of an ocean appeared behind Yin Tianchou, with rolling waves and a howling sea breeze.

Vaguely, a Flood Dragon could be seen frolicking in the water.

Even from over two hundred meters away, Monk Bu Se and Shen Lang could smell a heavy, salty sea stench, as if they were standing right on the shore!

Behind Yin Tianchou, Duan Chenfeng’s eyes were cold and his killing intent surged as his Divine Thought locked tightly onto Shen Lang and Monk Bu Se!

The pressure from an Emperor Martial Realm Eighth Heaven expert instantly made Monk Bu Se break out in a cold sweat!

Monk Bu Se put his palms together. “Amitabha. What are you saying, Benefactor? A monk does not tell lies. When have I ever deceived you?”

He was just making excuses, stubbornly refusing to admit fault. Monk Bu Se could only deny it to the bitter end.

After all, there was no proof, and the reputation of the Ruyi Buddha Sect was at stake. He had to turn a lie into the truth.

But Yin Tianchou had finally found Shen Lang. How could he be in the mood to argue with Monk Bu Se about being deceived?

Yin Tianchou walked slowly until he was thirty meters in front of Shen Lang and stopped. He said grimly, “Hand over what you got in the Hungry Ghost Dao. A piece of trash like you isn’t worthy of possessing something like that.”

Shen Lang rolled over into a sitting position and laughed. “And what if I do? What if I don’t?”

A cold glint flashed in Yin Tianchou’s eyes as he smiled elegantly. “It doesn’t matter whether you hand it over or not, because I never planned on letting you live. I’ll just take it myself after I kill you. You… must die!”

“I must die? Says who? You? I just have one question…” Shen Lang slowly stood up and sneered. “Putting chicken feathers on a bat… you think that makes you a bird?”
