Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 2261 - 836: Let’s Try the Emerald Tome!
Shaer quietly gazed at the long-winded Lansendel.
However, the Great Peacock that wagged its tail towards her showed no urgency.
Shaer instantly understood why Lansendel suddenly relaxed.
Upon confirming that there were Shadow Wraiths in this world’s enemies, the shadow of a few Shadow Charms she controlled... and an Igweville who would inevitably cause her trouble, Lansendel found a balance.
Even though he would still worry about Shaer causing him trouble on Amanata’s Path of Destiny, Lansendel was assured that Shaer wouldn’t go overboard.
Unless Shaer could instantly suppress the Shadow Wraiths and Witch Queen in this world, and also swiftly find out what flaws within her Shadow Charms could be exploited and controlled by the opponent.
However, they both understood that this was entirely impossible.
Especially the Shadow Wraiths.
If at first they believed Shaer couldn’t release them from that isolated space nor help them, Igweville, a Witch whose strength was not even as great as Shaer’s, had the ability to give them a chance to breathe and possibly escape that cage, proving Shaer had simply abandoned them.
She not only abandoned them but even left someone to monitor their every move.
Though this might be Igweville fooling them, given the Shadow Wraiths’ extreme and limited thinking capabilities, they couldn’t conceive of any other possibilities.
As long as Igweville harbored ill intent towards Shaer, she, the Lady of the Night, would instantly become one of Toril’s hated Twin Moons again.
After confirming traces of Shadow Wraiths among these Bloodline Sorcerers, Shaer instantly changed her expression because... she knew how much trouble enemies from the same source could bring her.
More importantly, her priority now was to tightly seal the gates to the Shadow Realm and inspect her territory to prevent a disaster at home.
Even though Mystra had evolved to the current Edna, Midnight’s story was still an enduring joke in Toril.
Being killed in one’s own home as part of an annual spectacle, Shaer definitely did not want to become the protagonist.
However, once realizing there might be Shadow Charms under external control... Shaer could not help but think of her foolish house traitor full of grievances, Mask.
Although he mostly caused trouble for others, whenever he turned against his own, it was always a major disaster!
She had even lost the Shadow Weave, and her only consolation was the now intact Shadow Realm... If those wretches caused a few colossal pits for her by collaborating inside and out... Shaer could already feel the fury rising from her toes to her head!
While Lansendel seemed daft, his reactions to these crucial matters were always swift.
He confirmed Shaer needed to go home for a thorough cleanup, work hard here to pull words from others, and also respond to Igweville’s provocations... so, he thought Shaer didn’t need to care too much, did he?
Shaer quietly melded into the shadows, with a gloomy and detached gaze directed at the gleaming Great Peacock.
Though it was such a sunny day, Hill, holding a cup of juice, couldn’t help but shiver... It’s cold! He should switch to a hot honey lemon water.
Lansendel turned abruptly, with a fawning smile on his furry bird face: "By the way, Shaer, need help?
To those bugs in the shadows, my Dawn Fire can be quite useful!"
Hill felt the hall warming up gradually and gave up the notion of changing his drink while sneaking a glance at the suddenly responsive Great Peacock.
Lansendel sensed the swift change in atmosphere and quickly understood what happened, which didn’t surprise Hill.
But to suddenly pull off such behavior was quite astounding.
"You, you are, mad?" Shaer didn’t even bother to ponder how to deal with him... to startle the Lady of the Night into stammering was truly rare.
Lansendel flapped his wings: "I don’t plan to engage in Toril’s next Path of Destiny for a second."
He tilted his head slightly and said with some displeasure: "If because of my involvement, someone inadvertently gets saved, it’d nauseate me for a thousand years!"
"Toril, what happened now?" Hill glanced at the battle on the big screen... ’Old Age Striking King’ truly lived up to being the most enduring Goddess of War, growing fiercer with each fight.
Among the Sorcerers sent by the mastermind, some had reached Level 15... Seven Rings seemed to be the limit they could send to test the enemy.
Of course, this didn’t mean they didn’t have Eighth Ring or even Ninth Ring presence.
But such killer trump cards, having one or two in this refugee camp would be good enough.
And based on Hill’s observation of these Sorcerers, even at Nine Rings, they can by no means match the level of ’Old Age Striking King’... Of course, that’s only if the Female Priest can still hold up after joining these Seven Rings.
The ’Old Age Striking King’ indeed seemed to be reaching her limits... unless one was unaware that she was a Priest and possessed a powerful kill move like the Emerald Tome.
She was truly formidable. When she discovered that the Seventh Circle Warlock had emerged from among the intermediate sorcerers at the forefront, she deduced that these enemies were already at their wits’ end.
As long as she could deal with these guys... of course, barely managing to take them down... then the final big BOSS would naturally appear.
Hill could feel the spirited aura of the ’Old Age Striking King’... after all, this lady had personally tested the attack power and defensive power of the Seventh Circle Warlock.
Although they seemed strong, they weren’t strong enough for her not to break their defense.
After all, she had abandoned healing power in favor of choosing a specialized profession based on fists!
Even now, she hadn’t used any of the supporting spells to enhance attack power that Fist Fighters could utilize!
If the enemy was truly related to Shadow Charms, Shadow Wraiths, or even Igweville, Hill estimated that the ’Old Age Striking King’s’ efforts to conceal her profession were not entirely successful.
But if the enemy only assumed that the ’Old Age Striking King’ had hidden her holy profession... then that could be considered a success.
After all, while a Fist Fighter’s attack power is decent, they do sacrifice a considerable amount of healing ability... it’s not that they can’t heal, but their healing cooldown is exceptionally long, and their Psychokinesis spells take several times longer than a normal Priest’s.
As for how many times longer, that would depend on the level of Divine Grace of the Fist Fighter.
But generally speaking, Fist Fighters merely slowly repair themselves during battle, hardly ever using those overly grand Holy Spells... if they have the time, they would rather land a hundred and eighty more punches on the enemy.
While they could heal themselves, big heals are exceedingly rare, taking half an hour to chant like any ordinary Priest.
If the opponent was certain they could instantly kill the ’Old Age Striking King’ or devastate her defenses in one blow, rendering her half-dead, they would definitely appear in person.
Hmm... Hill skeptically thought, uncertain whether this BOSS could force the ’Old Age Striking King’s’ ultimate move, the Emerald Tome, to emerge.
Given the current situation, once the ’Old Age Striking King’s’ instant heal was unleashed, it might directly infuriate this BOSS to death.
After all, their previous probing would become instantly futile.
Lansendel and Shaer were having their little play here because they discovered this matter.
Hill certainly didn’t think their earlier commotion was genuine... else he wouldn’t be observing with an amused attitude.
These two were using provocations on the left and counter-attacks on the right to communicate.
Or rather, exchanging their boundaries and the price each could bear to see if they could reach some form of consensus.
Hill, although a bit nervous at first, found the numerous unforeseen events arising without Celene’s presence to be quite peculiar.
His shortcoming was simply not thinking that way, not to the extent that he’d notice something wrong yet still be clueless about what was occurring.
-----------------
"Can the old age hold it in a bit longer?" ’Snow Cloud Peak’ naturally noticed the crucial point as well.
"What kind of good thing are you imagining?" ’Perfect Bald’ seriously retorted, "It’s already remarkable that the old age hasn’t gone berserk, lasting this long!
You now need to consider whether she will have to reveal the Emerald Tome, or... her special identity afterward."
The ’Old Age Striking King’s’ Divine Arts weren’t especially unique, but her intelligence and mental points maxed out by Edna, coupled with her ability to release top-level Divine Arts by merely chanting two words, were terrifying.
Since this game primarily featured large-scale battles without small skirmishes like 5-on-5 or 20-on-20, the ’Old Age Striking King’ might have been voted out from participating.
And then, there’s that Emerald Tome... Lansendel really is a benevolent god, actually allowing the ’Old Age Striking King’ to use this divine artifact in the Undead Tribe’s war.
If it were William... well, William wouldn’t let the Undead Tribe play around with such a powerful divine artifact either.
"Speaking of which, the prerequisite for the old age obtaining that artifact, wasn’t it because Lansendel wanted her to collect the entire book?" ’Snow Cloud Peak’ earnestly asked, putting down the tablet.
"Indeed! Unfortunately, despite traveling across many places in Toril, we only found a Chapter fragment and almost came to blows with the old folks at Harua," ’Perfect Bald’ recalled with regret.
"Heh~ you almost fought them not because you asked if they had no right to go to the Hidden Town?" ’Snow Cloud Peak’ laughed noncommittally, then quickly got to the point, "If you can communicate with the old age, remind her to use the Emerald Tome here."
"What do you mean?" ’Perfect Bald’s’ mouth questioned, but his hands had already swiftly completed the task.
"Even though these people are adept at hiding their abilities and have never incurred Josh’s wrath, I still believe they hid too successfully," raised an eyebrow from ’Snow Cloud Peak’.
