Surviving the Infinite Survival Game by Exploiting Glitches
Chapter 230: Life Is Tough, and I Sigh Again
Hearing Sang Biao’s voice, Lin Yun nodded, her eyes still fixed on the direction of Aino’s house.
That explosion had probably been set off by Aino’s people. She just did not know when Aino planned to leave. She had to keep watch, otherwise she might lose track of them and be unable to save the two survivors.
Life was tough, and she sighed again.
Sitting in her living room, Aino calmly sipped her flower tea. It was still early. She was only giving the giant rats something to do. There was no rush to rescue anyone. The night was long, so they could wait a little longer.
Oh dear, she had finished it all. It looked like she would have to brew some more flower tea in the dark.
...
The giant rats had barely had time to catch their breath after dealing with the blasted area when another explosion rang out from somewhere else. It happened four or five times that night. At first it came once an hour, but later it became irregular. After all, the three giant rat tribes had caught on. So it became random, anywhere at all.
The three tribes were furious but helpless, because they could not catch the elves. The elves had wings and could fly, so they were impossible to catch. More importantly, no one had been found! They had no idea how the elves had managed to plant explosives on their territory so stealthily.
After the fifth explosion, it was already past three in the morning, and many members of the giant rat tribe were exhausted from the commotion.
Within the giant rat tribe’s territory, Chief Rat stared at his clansmen with a vicious look in his eyes.
"What a bunch of useless trash! How did you let the elves in? What use are you good-for-nothings! You’re just a bunch of freeloaders who never do anything!"
The giant rats below dared not utter a sound. They had all been guarding the prison. Who could have known that the elves would not come to rescue the humans?
One giant rat whispered, "Chief, it wasn’t our idea... Most of us went out, and the few who remained were guarding the prison..."
"So you’re making excuses for your incompetence?" Chief Rat glared disapprovingly at the rat who had spoken. "Isn’t it all because of you useless trash! It’s been so long, and you still can’t control your behavior. What use are you! Where are the crocodiles and hyenas? Why haven’t we heard a thing from them!"
After those words, no one dared to speak again. The one who had spoken up had already been scolded, and anyone who spoke next would probably be scolded as well. Nobody wanted to be scolded.
Shu Bei glanced at the clansmen, who were about to pretend to be quails, felt somewhat speechless, and stepped forward. "Father, there are quite a few people the Crocodile Chief has been unable to control lately. He told me about it a few days ago. I’m not too clear about the situation with the hyenas. They usually communicate with Shu Dong."
After he finished speaking, he shut his mouth.
Shu Dong glared at him from the side. Why was Shu Bei dragging him into this mess? But since Shu Bei had already pushed him forward, Shu Dong had no choice but to step up as well, bowing his head. "The hyenas haven’t been doing well lately either. There’s been no movement from the research institute, so only we giant rats are doing a bit better. There was an explosion near the hyenas’ territory, but they’ve cleared it up, so it’s nothing serious."
Chief Rat’s face darkened. What on earth were these good-for-nothings doing? They could not even handle such a small matter. He spent a lot of gold coins supporting them every year, and they were still so useless.
Seeing that Chief Rat remained silent, Shu Bei’s eyes darted around. "Father, more than an hour has passed, and there’s still no movement outside. The elves have probably already stopped. After all, they know we’re staking out the prison and waiting for them. They’ll probably just plant explosives in places where there aren’t many people."
Chief Rat sat in his chair, tapping the table lightly with one hand and saying nothing. Seeing that he did not speak, Shu Bei did not dare to say anything either and shut his mouth.
"Shu Nan, what do you think?"
Lin Yun, who was standing not far behind Shu Bei, cursed inwardly a few more times. Why had this damn rat suddenly called on her? It was all Aino’s fault. That cunning elf had spotted her and still walked her around like a dog. By the time Lin Yun realized what was happening, she had already been caught red-handed by Shu Xi and brought here. To avoid being discovered, Sang Biao had already slipped away and gone into hiding.
Lin Yun panicked, fearing that the real Shu Nan had come back and exposed her identity. So she had kept hiding in the back, pretending to be a quail, but she was still exposed by the rat’s voice. Haha, this was really going to be the death of her!
"I also think Shu Bei is right. Tonight’s commotion was indeed a bit too much. If it continues, it may cause dissatisfaction among the other residents. If the elves had any sense, they would have stopped and left after doing those things."
Lin Yun took two steps forward and said a few words in line with what Shu Bei had said. Her main strategy was to muddy the waters first and get by before making any further moves. She was not really Shu Nan and did not understand Shu Nan’s personality at all.
After listening to Lin Yun, Chief Rat remained silent for a while, and the atmosphere instantly quieted down. Lin Yun could not tell whether she had been discovered, so she could only stand to one side with her head down and say nothing. But her mind had already started brainstorming. She quietly stuffed the exploding grapes into her pocket. If she was discovered, she would just kill them.
Just then, Chief Rat spoke. "Send out two teams to patrol, in case the elves have any backup plans. Shu Nan, you and Shu Xi will each lead a team. As for Shu Bei and Shu Dong, you two go and keep an eye on the crocodiles and hyenas. Those two are useless. If necessary..."
Chief Rat gave them a look. Those below instantly understood the unspoken meaning.
Lin Yun was startled. Good heavens, the giant rat chief was so ruthless? He could even take out the crocodiles and hyenas if necessary? Wasn’t he afraid that the crocodiles and hyenas would team up to take down the giant rat tribe? Lin Yun was both confused and greatly shocked.
After making the arrangements, Chief Rat got up and left. Shu Xi pulled her away. The two of them still had patrol duties.
So Lin Yun followed Shu Xi and led a group of people to explore the giant rat tribe’s territory. But she was not familiar with the area, so as she walked, she began to pretend to be distracted and wandered around aimlessly. The giant rats following behind her saw Lin Yun distracted and assumed she had something on her mind, but they dared not say anything. They could only remind her each time she drifted.
After a few moments, Lin Yun turned back. "I ran into something today, and I can’t quite figure it out right now, so I get easily distracted."
Seeing this, the other giant rats dared not say anything and obediently followed Lin Yun on patrol.
After walking around once, Lin Yun had roughly memorized the route, but none of the places they passed seemed to be a prison. How could she get these people to the dungeon?
