Surviving the Infinite Survival Game by Exploiting Glitches
Chapter 238: There Weren’t Many Monsters Before
"That’s good, that’s good. I’ve left the key on the table. I’ve also given you a token. If you need any help, you can take the token to the Peacock Clan and find me. I’ve already taken mine."
Kong Ling stood up and stretched. Lin Yun waved to him and watched him leave.
After Kong Ling left, Lin Yun looked around the shop again. The space was quite large, but what should she sell? She closed the shop door, tidied up briefly, and then took the key and the certificate Kong Ling had given her to the official housing office.
On the way, Kong Ling had told her that if she wanted to enter and leave Monster City easily, she could take the shop certificate to the official housing office. They would handle it for her and give her a badge, and then she would no longer have to pay the 10-gold-coin entrance fee.
Upon arriving at the official housing office and explaining her purpose, Aiyi quickly took care of her request. She handed Lin Yun a small tag.
"After entering Monster City, just wear this small tag on your person, and the guards at the city gate won’t stop you."
"Okay, thank you." Lin Yun thanked her.
Aiyi added, "By the way, if you lose your tag, please remember to report it at the official housing office and get a new one. If you don’t report it within three days of losing it, the shop will have to be taken back."
Lin Yun quickly responded, and after confirming that Aiyi had nothing more to say, she left the office.
She had to go back to the Fairy Tale Forest today. The furniture she had bought from Miss Green Bamboo yesterday had probably been delivered, but she had not been home, and she did not know how the people Miss Green Bamboo had arranged had handled it. She needed to hurry back and check. Although Tuan Tuan was at home watching over things, she was still not entirely at ease.
Just as Lin Yun arrived at the city gate, she bumped into Miss Rabbit, who was queuing to enter the city. As soon as Miss Rabbit saw Lin Yun, she dropped everything and ran toward her, calling out, "Lu You!"
"Rabbit, you’ve come to Monster City again?"
Miss Rabbit grabbed Lin Yun’s hand and shook her head. "I came to find you. Miss Green Bamboo said you weren’t there when she sent the furniture over, so I guessed you hadn’t come back yet. I was a little worried, so I came to find you."
Lin Yun was touched, never expecting that Miss Rabbit would come all the way to Monster City to find her.
"Thank you, Rabbit. I’m fine. I was just held up by something this morning, which is why I couldn’t get back on time."
Miss Rabbit was in a good mood now that she knew Lin Yun was all right. "Okay, let’s go back, then. May I come to your house today?"
"Of course, but the furniture is still by the door, so it might be a bit messy." Lin Yun did not refuse.
Miss Rabbit did not mind such things. "It’s okay. I don’t mind."
Miss Rabbit had chosen the same pet mount as yesterday for her outing today. The two chatted as they made their way toward the Fairy Tale Forest. On the way, Miss Rabbit asked about what she had heard on her way there. Lin Yun told her about what had happened in Monster City the night before, but she recounted only what she had learned from the customers at the breakfast stall. She concealed her whereabouts from the night before.
These things surprised Miss Rabbit greatly. She had never expected so much to happen in just one night. She added that if she had known, she would have stayed in Monster City last night. That way, she could have heard firsthand news.
"By the way, something actually happened in the Fairy Tale Forest yesterday."
After listening to Lin Yun’s gossip, Miss Rabbit shared what she knew.
"Someone was walking on the street last night and was spotted by a monster, which chased after him. More importantly... there are more monsters now."
"There are more? Is there some explanation for this? Or were there not many monsters before?" Lin Yun was stunned for a moment, then quickly asked.
Miss Rabbit nodded. "Yes. In the past, we could go out and play after eight o’clock, and the lights could stay on all night. I don’t know what happened, but monsters suddenly appeared at night. They would come to the light source and bite people. Everyone was frightened. The authorities sent people to kill the monsters, but they were too big to deal with, and once they escaped, they couldn’t be caught. Gradually, the authorities issued a notice telling everyone to rest at home and turn off the lights after 8 p.m., otherwise they would attract something. At first, there were not many monsters, and they only appeared near Monster City, namely the Fairy Tale Forest and the surrounding towns. After all, the monsters only appeared at night and were difficult to catch. After the authorities tried to catch them several times without success, they gave up. But unbeknownst to everyone, the number of monsters gradually increased. Since the races did not venture out at night, they naturally did not notice. By the time everyone found out, there were many more monsters. They had appeared not only in the Fairy Tale Forest and other towns, but also in Monster City. Such monsters have also appeared on the Northern and Southern Continents, but not on some small islands in the sea. The authorities were extremely worried about this, and they tried their best to investigate the number of monsters before finally confirming it. But last night..."
At this point, Miss Rabbit paused and pursed her lips. "The number of monsters I saw last night far exceeded the number reported for the Fairy Tale Forest."
Lin Yun fell silent. She was very curious about what those monsters were and how they had come to be. In addition...
"Have there never been any monsters on the Eastern Continent?"
Miss Rabbit shook her head. "No. By then, the human race had long since lost contact with the other continents, and few people could go to the Eastern Continent. There were no monsters there."
"How many monsters are there in the Fairy Tale Forest...?" Lin Yun asked.
"There were 28, but last night there were more than 28, almost a hundred. This isn’t right!" Miss Rabbit said firmly, but she had no evidence.
Lin Yun frowned. Were there really that many monsters in the Fairy Tale Forest? And that did not even include the monsters in Monster City. Yesterday, there must have been at least several dozen monsters chasing them, and they had escaped only because Crocodile Lan had pulled them into his shop in time. Otherwise, Lin Yun did not even dare to think about it. If they had continued running in Monster City, who knew how many monsters they would have attracted. According to Miss Rabbit, the increase in the number of monsters was a bit scary. Would the monsters really refrain from attacking the natives because of the darkness?
The atmosphere fell silent, and the two stopped talking about the monsters. They soon arrived at the place where Lin Yun had planted the house seed.
