Miko thought about that.

Then nodded.

"Good."

Nilo finally arrived more slowly.

He had one finger pressed firmly against his own mouth.

Kael looked at him.

"And you?"

Nilo frowned.

"Mine moves too."

Kael’s eyes warmed.

Nilo immediately added:

"But I’m not touching it."

Miko looked horrified.

"Why?"

"Because I want it to fall out by itself."

"That takes too long."

"That is fine."

Miko leaned closer.

"I can pull it."

Nilo backed away.

"No."

"I’m very good."

"You have done it once."

"It worked."

"It fell out while you were eating."

Miko paused.

"That still counts."

Kairo was still beside Kael, rocking slightly on his heels because he was too excited to stay still.

"Papa, touch mine."

Kael raised a brow.

"The tooth?"

"Yes."

Swanly immediately said:

"Wash your hands first."

Kael looked at his hands.

Then at Swanly.

She stared.

Kael sighed and wiped them properly with clean water from the nearby basin.

Kairo waited with painful impatience.

"Now?"

Kael crouched again.

"Now."

Kairo opened his mouth.

Kael touched the tiny loose tooth carefully with one fingertip.

It wiggled.

Kairo’s eyes sparkled.

"See?"

Kael smiled.

"I see."

"Is it very loose?"

"Very."

Kairo looked delighted.

"How long?"

"I don’t know."

"Mama?"

Swanly crouched beside them.

"Could be today. Could be another day."

Kairo’s face fell.

"Another day?"

Miko leaned close.

"I can make it today."

Kairo immediately clamped both hands over his mouth.

Miko giggled through his tooth gap.

Kael caught the back of Miko’s tunic before he could launch himself at his brother.

"You leave Kairo’s teeth alone."

Miko dangled.

"But Papa..."

"No."

"I am helping."

"No."

Miko sighed.

"Everyone is against healing."

Swanly covered her mouth.

Kael’s shoulders shook.

Kairo suddenly frowned.

His tongue had found the loose tooth again.

He pushed.

Twice.

Then his eyes widened.

Something clicked softly against his tongue.

Kairo froze.

Everyone froze with him.

His mouth slowly opened.

A tiny tooth rested on his lower lip.

Swanly gasped.

"Kairo!"

Kairo stared.

Then carefully took it between his fingers.

His entire face transformed.

"I DID IT!"

He screamed so loudly a bird took off from the nearby roof.

"My tooth fell out!"

Miko’s mouth dropped open.

Nilo rushed closer.

Kael laughed and lifted Kairo straight into the air.

Kairo squealed.

"Papa!"

"You lost it."

"I know!"

Kael held him against his chest.

Kairo immediately shoved the tiny tooth toward his face.

"Look!"

"I’m looking."

"Really look!"

"I am really looking."

Swanly was laughing so hard her fox tail swayed behind her.

Kairo grinned.

And now he had a tiny gap too.

Not as large as Miko’s.

But there.

Swanly clutched her chest.

"No."

Kairo blinked.

"What?"

"Not you too."

He looked worried.

"Is it bad?"

"You’re adorable."

His ears went red.

"I’m not adorable."

"You have a little gap."

"I’m brave."

Miko pointed at him.

"You look funny!"

Kairo immediately pointed back.

"I lost mine first!"

Miko gasped.

Kael wisely looked away.

He wanted no part of that trial.

Then a smooth voice drifted from behind them.

"So this is the famous black-panther bloodline."

Everyone turned.

Soren stood a few steps away.

Long white hair fell loosely over one shoulder, silver eyes cool and unreadable. A bundle of pale hides rested beneath one arm, and his white-scaled tail slid silently over the ground behind him.

His gaze moved across the scene.

First Nerin, who was still holding Miko’s tiny fallen tooth like he had somehow become responsible for it.

Then Miko.

Gap.

Then Kairo.

Another gap.

Then Nilo, who still possessed all his teeth but had one hand clamped protectively over his mouth.

Soren went silent.

Very silent.

Kairo’s eyes immediately lit up.

"Thnake Papa!"

He ran straight toward him.

Soren barely had time to look down before Kairo stopped directly in front of him, tilted his head back, and opened his mouth.

"Look!"

Soren stared into his mouth.

Kairo pointed excitedly.

"My toof!"

"I see."

"It fell out!"

"So I noticed."

Kairo grinned wider.

The new little gap showed perfectly.

Soren’s gaze rested on it.

Then he looked at Kael.

Kael’s eyes narrowed immediately.

"What?"

Soren spoke with complete seriousness. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Your eldest appears damaged."

Kairo’s smile vanished.

Kael stared at him.

Swanly slapped a hand over her mouth.

"Soren."

Kairo immediately protested.

"I’m not damaged!"

Unfortunately, with the new gap, it came out closer to:

Soren slowly looked back at him.

Silence.

Kairo realized.

His golden eyes widened.

Miko realized too.

Then Miko burst out laughing.

Kairo spun around.

"So did mine!"

"I know!"

"Then thtop talking!"

"You thtop talking!"

Soren watched them.

His expression did not move.

Not one bit.

That somehow made Swanly laugh harder.

Kairo whipped back toward him.

"Thnake Papa, tell him!"

Soren considered the request.

Then looked toward Miko.

"Miko."

Miko straightened.

"Yes?"

"Thtop talking."

Dead silence.

Swanly’s eyes widened.

Kael slowly turned his head toward Soren.

Nerin covered his mouth.

Miko stared.

Soren’s face remained perfectly calm.

"I cannot understand you."

Miko gasped.

"YOU JUTHT TALKED LIKE ME!"

"Did I?"

"Yes!"

Miko pointed furiously at him.

"You thaid ’thtop!’"

Soren’s silver eyes narrowed slightly.

"I said stop."

"No, you thaid thtop!"

"Perhaps your damaged mouth affected your ears."

Swanly broke.

She laughed so hard she bent forward.

"Soren!"

Miko looked betrayed beyond words.

"My ear isn’t broken!"

"Yet."

"YET?!"

Kael finally snorted.

Miko spun toward his father.

"Papa!"

Kael immediately straightened his face.

"I said nothing."

"You laughed!"

"I breathed."

"That wath a laugh-breathe!"

Kairo nodded fiercely.

"I heard it."

Kael looked at his eldest.

Kairo still stood beside Soren, tiny fallen tooth clenched proudly between two fingers.

His anger lasted approximately one second before excitement returned.

"Thnake Papa."

Soren looked down.

"Again?"

"My new fang will be bigger."

Soren raised one pale brow.

"Bigger than what?"

Kairo pointed toward Soren’s mouth.

"Yourth."

Swanly stopped laughing.

Kael’s expression immediately turned interested.

Miko joined Kairo’s side.

"Yeth."

Nilo finally uncovered his mouth and approached too.

His loose tooth was apparently temporarily forgotten.

"Our big teeth will grow soon."

Miko immediately pointed at him.

"Why you thound normal?!"

Nilo blinked.

"Because my tooth is still here."

Kairo’s face fell.

Miko’s face fell too.

Both gap-toothed brothers stared at him with sudden resentment.

Nilo slowly covered his loose tooth again.

"...Don’t look at me like that."

Miko narrowed his eyes.

"Your turn ith coming."

Kairo nodded gravely.

"Thoon."

Nilo backed away.

"I don’t like either of you."

Soren looked at all three.
