Chapter 12: The Silver Fang Lord
The Silver Fang Lord stood silently in the center of the cavern, its silver fur reflecting the pale light of the mana crystals embedded in the surrounding walls. Its body was enormous, easily larger than the Forest Fang King, but its size wasn't what caught Subin's attention. It was the creature's posture. There was no wasted movement, no restless pacing, and no obvious aggression. It simply watched him with a calmness that reminded Subin of an experienced warrior waiting for his opponent to make the first mistake.
Subin tightened his grip around his sword and studied the creature from a distance. The system was still analyzing it, but the information was arriving slowly.
[Dungeon Guardian: Silver Fang Lord]
[Level: 15]
[Race: Forest Fang Beast]
[Threat Level: High]
[Analysis Progress: 4%]
Subin's eyes narrowed. The system's threat warning wasn't surprising. He was only Level 11, and the creature was Level 15. More importantly, the Silver Fang Lord was a dungeon guardian. It was likely stronger than an ordinary Level 15 monster.
He took a slow breath and lowered his center of gravity.
The creature's ears moved.
Subin noticed.
A second later, the Silver Fang Lord disappeared.
Subin's Predator's Sense reacted before his eyes could follow.
Something was approaching from his right.
He immediately activated Fang Step and moved diagonally.
A silver blur crossed the space where he had been standing.
The creature's claw struck the stone floor.
BOOM!
The impact shattered several pieces of rock.
Subin's expression became serious.
"That's fast."
The Silver Fang Lord turned almost instantly and charged again.
Subin raised his sword.
CLANG!
The sword and claw collided.
The impact forced Subin backward several meters.
His feet scraped against the stone floor, but he maintained his balance.
The creature didn't give him a chance to recover.
It lunged again.
Subin stepped aside.
A claw passed his chest.
He counterattacked.
His sword cut toward the creature's ribs.
The blade connected.
Instead of cutting deeply, it only left a thin line across the silver fur.
Subin's eyes sharpened.
Its defense was far superior to the Forest Fang King's.
He retreated before the creature could counter.
[Analysis Progress: 9%]
The Silver Fang Lord turned toward him.
Subin didn't attack immediately.
He observed.
The creature's movements were extremely efficient. Unlike the wolves on the previous floors, it didn't rely on predictable attack patterns. Every movement seemed connected to the next.
A claw could become a bite.
A bite could become a shoulder charge.
A missed attack could immediately turn into a rear-leg strike.
It was fighting like a complete combat system rather than an animal simply attacking with instinct.
Subin smiled faintly.
"You're going to be difficult."
The Silver Fang Lord charged.
This time, Subin advanced too.
Their distance disappeared.
The creature swung its right claw.
Subin raised his sword and redirected it.
The Silver Fang Lord immediately opened its jaws.
Subin twisted his body.
The enormous fangs passed beside his shoulder.
He thrust toward the creature's throat.
The Silver Fang Lord moved its head.
The sword struck its jaw instead.
The impact produced a sharp metallic sound.
Subin withdrew immediately.
The creature's eyes became more focused.
Subin noticed.
It had understood his attack.
He smiled.
"So you're intelligent."
The Silver Fang Lord growled.
Then it attacked again.
---
The battle became a contest of adaptation.
Subin moved around the cavern while the Silver Fang Lord pursued him. The creature's attacks were powerful enough to destroy the stone floor, so Subin avoided direct exchanges whenever possible.
He relied on Fang Step to change direction.
He used Basic Sword Flow to connect his attacks.
And he relied heavily on Predator's Sense to detect movement before it became visible.
But even with those advantages, the Silver Fang Lord continued forcing him backward.
[Analysis Progress: 17%]
Subin blocked one attack.
The impact numbed his arm.
He immediately moved away.
Another claw came from behind.
Predator's Sense warned him.
He ducked.
The claw passed over his head.
Subin turned and struck.
This time, his sword hit the creature's foreleg.
A small wound appeared.
The Silver Fang Lord roared and kicked backward.
Subin crossed his sword in front of his body.
BOOM!
He was thrown several meters.
His back hit the stone wall.
Pain spread through his body.
He dropped to one knee.
The Silver Fang Lord charged.
Subin's eyes widened.
Too fast.
He pushed himself sideways.
The creature slammed into the wall.
The cavern shook.
Several mana crystals fell from the ceiling.
Subin immediately stood.
His breathing was heavier now.
He looked at his sword.
There was a small crack near the blade's edge.
He frowned.
The weapon wasn't going to last forever.
That was another problem he hadn't considered seriously enough.
Weapons had limits.
Even if he became stronger, a poor-quality sword could eventually become a weakness.
He would need better equipment.
But that thought could wait.
The Silver Fang Lord turned.
Subin raised his sword again.
"Let's continue."
---
The next exchange was different.
Subin stopped trying to overpower the creature.
Instead, he began studying its movements more carefully.
The Silver Fang Lord always shifted its weight before changing direction.
Its front paws remained relatively light when it prepared to accelerate.
Its shoulders moved slightly before a claw strike.
Its ears changed position when it focused on a specific attack.
Its breathing changed before a powerful movement.
The information accumulated.
[Analysis Progress: 26%]
Subin moved.
The creature attacked.
He dodged.
It attacked again.
He redirected.
The creature attempted a bite.
He stepped inside and struck its chest.
This time, the sword cut deeper.
Blood appeared.
Subin immediately retreated.
The Silver Fang Lord stared at the wound.
Then it looked at Subin.
Something changed in its expression.
Subin understood.
The creature had recognized him as a genuine threat.
That meant it would stop holding back.
The Silver Fang Lord lowered its body.
Mana began gathering around it.
Subin's expression became serious.
"So you have a skill."
The creature disappeared.
Subin's Predator's Sense exploded with warning.
He moved immediately.
A silver streak passed behind him.
Subin spun.
The creature was already attacking from the opposite side.
He blocked.
The impact sent him sliding.
The Silver Fang Lord continued its assault.
Left.
Right.
Above.
Below.
Subin's sword moved constantly.
His arms were beginning to ache.
His body was accumulating small injuries.
But something else was happening.
His comprehension was accelerating.
[Analysis Progress: 39%]
The creature attacked.
Subin moved.
[Analysis Progress: 47%]
Another attack.
He dodged.
[Analysis Progress: 55%]
The creature changed direction.
Subin predicted it.
His sword struck its shoulder.
[Analysis Progress: 63%]
Subin's eyes became increasingly focused.
The battle was no longer chaotic.
Patterns were beginning to appear.
Not simple patterns like those of the wolves.
The Silver Fang Lord had multiple layers of movement.
It adapted to his reactions.
Subin adapted to its adaptation.
The two continued evolving against each other.
---
After nearly half an hour, Subin suddenly understood something.
The Silver Fang Lord wasn't actually changing its attacks randomly.
It was using combinations based on his previous responses.
If he dodged left, the creature adjusted its next attack toward the left.
If he blocked high, it attacked low.
If he retreated, it pursued.
If he advanced, it created distance.
It was learning him.
Subin smiled.
"You're reading me."
The Silver Fang Lord charged.
Subin deliberately moved left.
The creature immediately adjusted.
But this time, Subin had expected it.
He changed direction using Fang Step.
The Silver Fang Lord's attack missed.
Subin entered its blind spot.
Basic Sword Flow activated.
One slash.
The creature turned.
Second slash.
It blocked with its foreleg.
Third movement.
Subin stepped backward.
Then forward again.
His sword thrust toward the creature's chest.
The Silver Fang Lord twisted.
The blade penetrated between two ribs.
The creature roared.
Subin immediately pulled the sword free.
[Analysis Progress: 71%]
The creature's blood stained the stone floor.
But it wasn't defeated.
It became more aggressive.
Mana surged around its body.
Subin felt the pressure immediately.
The creature's aura had changed.
His sword hand tightened.
"Now you're serious."
The Silver Fang Lord opened its mouth.
A concentrated wave of mana gathered between its fangs.
Subin's expression changed.
He had seen nothing like it before.
The creature released the attack.
A compressed blast of silver energy tore across the cavern.
Subin activated Fang Step.
He moved sideways at the last moment.
The attack struck the wall behind him.
BOOM!
The stone exploded.
Fragments flew everywhere.
Subin rolled across the floor and quickly stood.
He stared at the destroyed wall.
"That would have killed me."
The Silver Fang Lord prepared another attack.
Subin didn't wait.
He charged.
The creature released another blast.
Subin changed direction.
Fang Step carried him through the narrow gap beside the attack.
He entered close range.
The creature's eyes widened.
Subin's sword moved.
The first strike cut across its shoulder.
The second struck its front leg.
The third targeted the wound beneath its ribs.
The Silver Fang Lord roared and swung its claw.
Subin ducked.
He moved around its body.
Basic Sword Flow and Fang Step merged naturally.
His sword followed his movement without hesitation.
He wasn't consciously choosing every attack anymore.
His body simply knew where the sword needed to go.
[Basic Sword Flow proficiency increased.]
[Fang Step proficiency increased.]
The Silver Fang Lord turned.
Subin saw the opening.
He stepped forward.
His sword pierced directly beneath the creature's jaw.
The blade entered deeply.
The Silver Fang Lord froze.
Subin pushed forward with both hands.
Then he pulled the sword sideways.
The creature staggered backward.
Subin immediately stepped away.
The enormous wolf stood for several seconds.
Then its legs gave out.
The Silver Fang Lord collapsed.
Silence filled the cavern.
Subin remained still, breathing heavily.
Blood covered his clothes.
His arms were trembling.
But he was standing.
Then the system appeared.
[Dungeon Guardian defeated.]
[Experience acquired.]
[Level Up.]
[Level 11 → Level 12]
[Level Up.]
[Level 12 → Level 13]
[Level Up.]
[Level 13 → Level 14]
Three levels.
Subin stared at the notifications.
Then another message appeared.
[Sword Comprehension analysis complete.]
[Silver Fang Lord combat system successfully analyzed.]
[New Technique acquired.]
Subin's attention immediately focused on the notification.
[Silver Fang Movement]
Type: Advanced Movement Technique
Description: A movement technique derived from the Silver Fang Lord's combat movements. Allows rapid changes in direction while maintaining balance, momentum, and offensive positioning.
Subin's expression brightened.
The system continued.
[New Passive Skill acquired.]
[Combat Adaptation]
Description: Increases the user's ability to adapt to unfamiliar combat patterns after sufficient observation.
Subin stared at the skill for several seconds.
Combat Adaptation.
That was exactly what he had been doing during the battle.
But now it had become a permanent ability.
He couldn't help smiling.
"This class really is ridiculous."
---
Subin walked toward the dungeon guardian's corpse.
The Silver Fang Lord had left behind considerably more materials than any monster he had fought before.
Its fangs were almost as long as his forearm.
Its claws were hard enough to scratch stone.
Its hide was thick and flexible.
But the most valuable item was the mana stone.
Subin removed it carefully.
[Silver Fang Lord Mana Stone]
[Quality: Medium]
[Purity: 67%]
[Mana Content: 1,184]
Subin's eyes widened.
More than a thousand units of mana.
He carefully placed the stone into his storage pouch.
Then the dungeon began shaking.
Subin looked around.
The walls trembled.
Several mana crystals fell from the ceiling.
A system notification appeared.
[Dungeon Guardian defeated.]
[Dungeon completion conditions fulfilled.]
[Dungeon will collapse in 30 minutes.]
Subin immediately understood.
He had experienced the same thing in Goblin's Hollow.
He needed to leave.
Before departing, he collected the most valuable materials he could carry and looked around the cavern one final time.
There was no legendary treasure.
No mysterious artifact.
No hidden secret.
It was simply a dungeon.
A place filled with monsters, resources, danger, and opportunities.
Subin was satisfied.
That was enough.
He turned toward the exit.
As he walked, another notification appeared.
[Dungeon completion reward available.]
Subin stopped.
A small golden box appeared in front of him.
He opened it.
Inside was a sword.
Unlike the ordinary steel sword he had purchased from the Association, this weapon immediately felt different.
The blade was silver-white.
A faint blue glow traveled along its edge.
Subin picked it up.
The system displayed its information.
[Silver Fang Sword]
[Grade: Rare]
[Attack Power: +72]
[Durability: 150/150]
[Special Effect: Increases movement speed by 5% while wielded.]
Subin stared at it.
Then he smiled.
"Now that's a sword."
He sheathed it carefully.
His old sword remained useful as a backup, but this weapon was clearly on another level.
Subin began walking toward the dungeon exit.
He had entered Forest Fang Nest at Level 5.
He was leaving at Level 14.
He had learned three new abilities, gained valuable materials, obtained a rare weapon, and experienced his first truly difficult battle.
But Subin wasn't satisfied yet.
He looked at the Silver Fang Sword hanging at his waist.
The weapon felt natural in his hand.
For the first time, he had a weapon that seemed capable of keeping up with his growth.
Outside the dungeon, however, he knew things were changing rapidly.
The Association had only just been established.
The ranking system was still primitive.
Dungeons were still being discovered.
Awakeners were still learning their classes.
And Subin was no longer the same person who had entered Goblin's Hollow.
He had reached Level 14.
He had defeated a Level 15 dungeon guardian.
And his journey had barely begun.
As he stepped toward the dungeon exit, Subin looked at the sword beside his waist and quietly said, "I wonder what kind of sword I'll be holding when I reach Level 100."
