Chapter 23: The Mana Cavern

The cavern stretched far beyond what Subin could see.

Blue crystals covered the walls from floor to ceiling, their surfaces glowing softly as streams of mana traveled through them. The air itself seemed saturated with energy. Every breath Subin took carried mana into his body, and even without actively cultivating it, he could feel his reserves slowly recovering.

He stood at the entrance for several moments, studying the enormous chamber.

This was no ordinary dungeon environment.

The mana concentration here was several times higher than anything he had experienced on the upper floors.

Subin opened his status window.

His attention shifted toward the enormous structures at the far end.

Six massive stone gates stood around the cavern.

Subin didn't immediately approach.

And there were hundreds of them.

Subin looked around.

If even half of these crystals could be harvested safely, the value would be enormous.

He reached out.

The moment his fingers touched the crystal, however, the entire cavern reacted.

BOOM!

Mana erupted from the crystal.

Subin immediately stepped backward.

A wave of energy spread through the cavern.

The blue crystals on the walls lit up simultaneously.

Then the five weapon gates began glowing.

Subin's expression became serious.

The stone gate bearing the sword symbol started opening.

Slowly.

He tightened his grip on the Stone Emperor's Blade.

The opening wasn't accompanied by any monster roar.

Instead, a faint metallic sound came from inside.

Clang.

Subin waited.

Another sound.

Clang.

Then something walked out.

A humanoid figure made entirely from blue stone.

It was approximately two meters tall.

Its body was covered in smooth armor.

In its right hand was a sword.

Unlike the stone monsters Subin had encountered earlier, this creature didn't move like a simple construct.

It stood perfectly upright.

Its sword was held in a relaxed position.

Subin's eyes narrowed.

It was the strongest opponent he had encountered in this dungeon.

He stepped forward.

His sword struck three times.

Chest.

Waist.

The construct blocked the first.

Redirected the second.

The third struck its armor.

Another crack appeared.

Subin's eyes became increasingly focused.

This creature was different from the Stone Knight.

The Stone Knight had relied heavily on shield control and physical positioning.

The Sword Guardian had no shield.

Every movement was centered around the sword.

Its attacks were efficient.

Its defense was efficient.

Its transitions were efficient.

There was no wasted motion.

Subin felt a familiar sensation.

The same feeling he had experienced while fighting the Sword Echo.

Subin followed.

The battle suddenly changed.

He stepped sideways.

Instead, he changed his position.

The Guardian adjusted.

A few seconds later, the Sword Guardian found itself standing exactly where Subin wanted it.

His eyes sharpened.

Subin raised his sword.

The Guardian attacked.

He stepped into the attack.

The entire shoulder shattered.

The construct staggered.

Subin followed immediately.

His sword moved once.

A clean diagonal slash.

The Sword Guardian's chest split apart.

Blue light poured from the wound.

The construct froze.

Then its entire body shattered.

BOOM!

Fragments of blue stone scattered across the floor before dissolving into mana.

Subin stood silently.

Subin looked at the notifications.

Two levels.

The Guardian had been worth considerably more experience than the monsters above.

Subin's eyes widened.

He read the description.

His gaze shifted toward the remains of the Sword Guardian.

He could feel something behind it.

Subin wasn't particularly interested in uncovering the world's deepest secrets.

He walked toward it.

He had barely crossed the threshold.

The gate opened.

A tremendous wave of sword intent rushed outward.

Subin stepped forward.

He had just reached Level 25.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Perfect timing."

He entered.

Behind him, the great gate slowly closed.

The blue mana cavern disappeared from view.

Ahead lay another path.

A path designed specifically for swordsmen.

And for the first time since awakening as the Sword God, Subin felt that the dungeon wasn't simply giving him monsters to defeat.

It was giving him a road to walk.

He intended to walk it to the very end.
