Chapter 438 - 264: Ambush (2)
Chapter 438: Chapter 264: Ambush (2)
Tong Yinyin shook her head and said, "It’s getting late. I should return to my room to cultivate. You should get some rest, too."
With that, Tong Yinyin swayed her hips as she walked away, step by step. The moonlight cast a long shadow behind her.
「The next day.」
Ling Zhongxing’s signal arrived.
Su Xing, Li Ye, and Tong Yinyin—the three of them—arrived at the Cyan Cloud Sect as agreed. The four of them were now gathered again before the sect. Su Xing looked at Ling Zhongxing and asked:
"Elder Ling, what’s the situation?"
"Almost everyone from the Cyan Cloud Sect has been deployed. All the Extraordinary Beings of the Seventh Order and above have gone to the Purple Bamboo Forest. The only ones left in the sect are some insignificant disciples."
Ling Zhongxing explained.
"Heh, it seems the people of the Cyan Cloud Sect really value our dear Su."
Tong Yinyin said softly.
"What about Chi Yu? Has he made a move?"
Li Ye immediately asked. The purpose of their entire operation was Chi Yu. If he didn’t show up, all their efforts would be for nothing.
"He hasn’t appeared yet. But the Purple Bamboo Forest isn’t close to the Cyan Cloud Sect. Even if they used spatial teleportation, they’d still wait a while after arriving and not seeing Fellow Daoist Su."
"Because of that, they’ll have to wait until after our agreed-upon time before they even consider returning to the Cyan Cloud Sect."
"This window of time will be when the Cyan Cloud Sect is at its most chaotic and vulnerable."
Ling Zhongxing analyzed.
"Don’t worry, Brother Ye. That ghost will definitely show up."
Tong Yinyin said coldly.
"Yin Crow is right. Brother Ye, don’t be impatient. This drama of luring the snake from its hole is approaching its final act. Let’s get ready here in the Cyan Cloud Sect and wait for this ghost to deliver himself to our doorstep."
Ling Zhongxing said with a smile. Although there was no guarantee Chi Yu would appear, his confident, in-control demeanor made everyone feel the plan was bound to succeed.
Time slowly passed.
「That night, inside the Cyan Cloud Sect.」
Two figures, one in black and one in white, slowly walked into the Cyan Cloud Sect’s plaza under the cover of night. On their heads, they wore the hats reading "Fortune at First Sight" and "Peace Under Heaven," looking just as they had at Dragon Gate.
"Haha, who would’ve thought that little brat Yin Crow and Li Ye could stir up such a huge commotion and throw the entire Cyan Cloud Sect into chaos? This is much more clever than us just charging in."
White Impermanence chuckled. This White Impermanence was Chi Yu’s right hand; the two had not yet merged into one and were still playing the roles of Black and White Impermanence.
"With the Cyan Cloud Sect in such a mess, I refuse to believe that old Daoist can still sit still."
Black Impermanence sneered.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. That Su Xing is no simple character. He was strong enough to force us to combine. The fact that Li Ye managed to capture him... if anything were to happen to him, this entire region would probably be shaken to its core."
"This way, once we destroy the Cyan Cloud Sect, Gu Che will be forced to abdicate. The conflict over Sword Qi will then intensify, and I doubt that old Daoist will be able to stay hidden."
"Xiaoyou is right. Unless that old Daoist is willing to abandon the very sect he founded!"
Black Impermanence said with a laugh.
But White Impermanence retorted, slightly annoyed, "We haven’t merged yet. Don’t call me Xiaoyou."
"Hahaha."
Black Impermanence just laughed, not seeming to care.
Seeing this, White Impermanence didn’t dwell on it either, just shaking his head and mocking:
"And they say Ling Zhongxing is some peerless strategist. Isn’t he still being played like a fiddle by us from Jile Valley?"
"Heh, indeed. People always talk about the ’Three Wits of the World,’ but Lin Loulan has been dead for who knows how many years, and Leng Wuque is critically ill—rumor has it he even lost both his legs. That only leaves Ling Zhongxing. The way I see it, this Ling Zhongxing is hardly a genius at all."
Black Impermanence sneered in agreement.
"Heed not the sound of rain beating through the forest. Why not chant and walk on? With a bamboo staff and straw sandals, I travel lighter than on horseback. Who’s afraid? A simple straw coat is all I need to face a lifetime of misty rain."
Reciting this poem, Ling Zhongxing walked slowly before the two men all by himself and chuckled.
"Your humble servant, Elder of the Cyan Cloud Sect, Ling Zhongxing. I believe I just heard the two of you call my name."
"Ling Zhongxing! Why are you here?!"
White Impermanence cried out in alarm. Black Impermanence was calmer, merely asking with some surprise:
"You didn’t go to the Purple Bamboo Forest with Gu Che?"
"If I had gone to the Purple Bamboo Forest, how would I be able to meet the two of you here?"
Ling Zhongxing said with a puzzled expression, "Your humble servant, Ling Zhongxing, requests that you two report to King Yama tonight. And tell him... that ghosts should stick to ghostly affairs and not meddle in the human world!"
"Hahahaha, how laughable! Ling Zhongxing, you’re merely a Seventh Order. How many disciples does the Cyan Cloud Sect even have left? I doubt you can even activate the Cyan Cloud Sword Array. What can you possibly do to us?!"
White Impermanence said arrogantly.
"Every Extraordinary Being knows you, Ling Zhongxing, have no talent for the Extraordinary path. Now you stand before us all alone. As I see it, we should be the ones sending you to see King Yama!"
Black Impermanence taunted as well. The two of them clearly didn’t see Ling Zhongxing as a threat. And if he were truly alone, they would have been right. But...
CAW—CAW— A shrill cry of a crow echoed, and along with it rose a melodious female voice.
"Heh heh... You two Ghost Lords seem so confident. But if you add us to the equation, might we be able to persuade you to stay for a little drink?"
Tong Yinyin, dressed in a long black gown that trailed on the ground, walked slowly from the distance, cradling a pitch-black crow in her hands. From two other directions, Su Xing and Li Ye leaped out.
"Yin Crow and Caged Bird!"
"How... and that kid from Cang City!"
White Impermanence exclaimed in shock.
Black Impermanence—oh, no, Chi Yu. His voice was no longer grim and somber. Instead, he reverted to his original tone, speaking with great interest:
"You never went to the Purple Bamboo Forest. Oh, wait, this was your trap from the very beginning."
"That’s right, Chi Yu. Since you dared to provoke me, you should be prepared to be killed by me. Now, I’d like to see how you plan to escape my sword."
Su Xing said icily.
"Yin Crow and Caged Bird, don’t you know? The number one rule of Jile Valley is that its members are absolutely forbidden from fighting each other! By doing this, are you trying to betray Jile Valley?!"
White Impermanence roared in anger.
"That’s an interesting thing to say. Ghost Lords, have you two forgotten how Brother Ye and I entered Jile Valley in the first place?"
Tong Yinyin’s voice was chilling.
"Thanks to you two, I have already ’betrayed’ the Cyan Cloud Sect. What’s to stop me from betraying Jile Valley now?"
Li Ye also sneered.
"Heh."
Chi Yu let out a soft laugh. He realized this battle was unavoidable. They had indeed been caught in a trap, but did they really think it would be so easy to keep him here?
’Could it be...’
’Do they really think I, Chi Yu, am one of those weaklings?!’
"Watch out! They’re about to make a final, desperate struggle!"
Ling Zhongxing shouted. Although Chi Yu hadn’t spoken, Ling Zhongxing could tell exactly what they were planning from their reactions.
"Heh heh..."
"Being too smart isn’t always a good thing."
White Impermanence sneered. Then, holding his staff, he vanished. The mastermind behind this whole setup was Ling Zhongxing. He had to be killed first!
White Impermanence was incredibly fast. Even though he was only Chi Yu’s right hand, he possessed the true combat power of an Eighth Order. At such a speed, there was no way Ling Zhongxing could dodge. Just as his staff was about to smash into Ling Zhongxing’s head and end his life on the spot...
A sword hummed abruptly!
White Impermanence was sent flying by a single slash of a black sword.
