Chapter 440: Chapter 265: 3 Source Essences (2)
’It makes sense.’
The puppets Tong Yinyin had deployed were numerous, but most were Sixth-Rank, with only a few Seventh-Rank ones mixed in.
A shame, but to Chi Yu, there was no difference between Sixth-Rank and Seventh-Rank—they were all just ants. It was no surprise, then, that he could pulverize them with a single punch. Of course, this couldn’t be Tong Yinyin’s true trump card.
BOOM!
A massive cloud of smoke erupted.
Within the smoke, seventy-two ancient swords shot toward Chi Yu. Hidden among them were several hair-thin silver needles, deadly enough to kill even an Eighth-Rank expert on the spot.
However, Chi Yu merely smirked. With a wave of his hand, the swords and needles vanished, only to reappear directly in front of Li Ye and Tong Yinyin. If they hadn’t spent so long preparing for this revenge and come to thoroughly understand his methods, they never would have been able to dodge.
"Heh heh..."
"Chi Yu is even harder to deal with than I thought."
Ling Zhongxing watched the scene, his expression as serene as ever, as if everything was still within his control. He glanced at Su Xing and said,
"Go help them."
"I’m going to have a ’chat’ with the people from the Cyan Cloud Sect. If they don’t understand what’s happening and attack Li Ye and Tong Yinyin, we’ll have a real problem on our hands."
"Alright."
Su Xing nodded. He had no objection to Ling Zhongxing’s departure; the Elder’s combat strength wasn’t needed here, and his reasoning was sound.
If they succeeded in killing Chi Yu, the truth would have to be revealed to the Cyan Cloud Sect eventually. This was merely laying the groundwork for that moment.
Their exchange was brief, but on the main battlefield, dozens of exchanges had already taken place. Tong Yinyin’s strength far surpassed Su Xing’s expectations. Her techniques were endless, and her use of the silver needles was so unpredictable that even Chi Yu dared not risk being hit.
As for Li Ye, his swordsmanship was brutally direct. This put him at a great disadvantage in a head-on confrontation with a stronger foe like Chi Yu.
Fortunately, Ling Zhongxing had arranged for him to use the Cyan Cloud Sword Array. While Li Ye alone couldn’t unleash its full power, the boost from even an incomplete version of the array elevated his combat strength to a remarkable level.
’No wonder they dared to try and kill Chi Yu,’ Su Xing thought. ’According to their original plan, they had a chance to succeed even without me. After all, I was never supposed to be involved in this affair.’
"Hahahaha!"
"Not bad, but you can’t hurt me at all! If this is the best you can do, then just obediently hand over your lives!"
Chi Yu roared with laughter. His right hand grew increasingly menacing, and a brilliant light erupted from his eyes, as if he’d been driven into a frenzy.
"Is that so?"
Just as Chi Yu was laughing maniacally, a voice, so calm it was almost detached, spoke from directly behind him. He hadn’t sensed anyone approach, but he knew without thinking that it had to be Su Xing.
’But... how in the world did he get behind me?!’
His mind went blank for a second before he whipped around, throwing a punch. A violent shockwave instantly exploded from his fist, shattering the very space where it landed—but there was nothing there.
’Could it be? Did I punch him so hard he died and got sucked into the void?’ The thought popped into Chi Yu’s head, but even he found it utterly unconvincing.
His expression darkened. He parried the powerful opportunistic attacks from Li Ye and Tong Yinyin, sustaining several new wounds in the process, all while trying to pinpoint Su Xing’s location.
In reality, Su Xing was right beside him. He had a sword technique that functioned like invisibility. Even though he had since refined it to a simpler, purer form, he could still utilize its original effect.
’Why isn’t he using his Origin?’
Su Xing didn’t attack rashly. He was still pondering that one question: ’Why isn’t Chi Yu using his Origin?’
When Su Xing had fought the Witch Summoner, the man had used his Origin’s power from the very beginning. Yet Chi Yu showed no sign of doing the same. ’Could it be that he hasn’t mastered it? If so, fighting the three of us alone is suicide.’
Su Xing was more inclined to believe that Chi Yu was waiting for an opportunity—a chance for a one-hit kill that would secure his victory.
’That’s why he’s hiding his true strength,’ Su Xing reasoned. ’He wants his enemies to get careless and reveal an opening. A shame for him, though... Li Ye and Tong Yinyin are here for revenge. They’re focused on killing Chi Yu methodically, not on grandstanding. As a result, despite his long search, Chi Yu has yet to find the game-changing opportunity he was looking for.’
’If this keeps up... he’s probably not going to be able to hold back much longer.’
At this thought, Su Xing tightened his grip on his Black Sword. He was already prepared to shatter it if necessary. ’If Chi Yu really has an Origin,’ he thought, ’then between the three of us, only Li Ye and I still have a way to fight back.’
He had his sword-shattering technique, and Li Ye possessed the Origin bestowed by the Cyan Cloud Sword Immortal. These were their trump cards. Thinking about it, Su Xing was astounded by how thorough Ling Zhongxing’s plan was. It was as if he had calculated Chi Yu’s demise down to the last detail.
’Even if I weren’t here, Li Ye could probably still kill Chi Yu by using the Cyan Cloud Sword Immortal’s gift, though the price would surely be higher.’
Just as he expected!
Chi Yu suddenly roared furiously,
"A bunch of cowards!"
"What kind of skill is hiding in a Sword Array!"
"If that’s how it is... then I’ll let you see what true power really is."
As he spoke the last sentence, his voice suddenly grew calm, as if all emotion had been drained from him. A blood-red eye opened on his forehead, and a crimson power erupted from within him.
Without a doubt, this was his Origin.
Every person’s Origin possessed a unique power. The Witch Summoner, for example, was nearly unbeatable as long as he stood on solid ground. Take him off the earth, however, and he was only slightly stronger than an Eighth-Rank expert.
’Still very strong, but not terrifyingly so.’
Su Xing’s eyes narrowed. He had to figure out exactly what this Origin did.
In the distance, Ling Zhongxing felt the heart-stopping aura, and a grave expression slowly settled on his face. He knew they had finally reached the most critical moment.
Chi Yu’s Origin. Although Ling Zhongxing had his suspicions about what it was, this was the first time he was seeing it for himself, which left him somewhat uneasy. Nevertheless, he remained confident that killing Chi Yu would not be a problem.
’If it really comes to it... I still have one last resort.’
’But that’s a contingency that should never be needed. If it must be used, it certainly won’t be on a minor character like Chi Yu.’
Ling Zhongxing thought to himself, his eyes narrowed.
Beside him stood a group of Stewards, a rank just below Elder. They watched the scene with astonishment, mulling over what Elder Ling had told them earlier.
’Could it be... Was Elder Ling telling the truth?’
’That Demoness is actually here to help us?’
Although it’s unknown what Ling Zhongxing had said to the members of the Cyan Cloud Sect, it was an undeniable fact that Tong Yinyin and Li Ye were indirectly helping them.
At this moment, it wasn’t just those within the Cyan Cloud Sect. Even the Sect Elders far away in the Purple Bamboo Forest felt the surge of power.
The aura of an Origin was simply too powerful to ignore.
However, it wasn’t just one. In a single instant, three distinct Origin auras erupted at once!
