Chapter 454: Chapter 272: Making a Move (2)

With three consecutive bangs, blinding flames erupted from the pitch-black muzzles. Three armor-piercing rounds shot out, detonating in the purple mist and creating massive, cross-shaped shockwaves.

Twelve figures burst into action, but after leaping into the air, they all plummeted back to the ground. As they fell, an inky-green liquid began to materialize on the ground below.

Dozens of black-clad figures suddenly appeared behind the twelve. Most didn’t seem particularly powerful, but they were all holding firearms.

Firearms were absolutely prohibited for sale in the Xia Country. While it was expected that Jile Valley, a faction of vicious criminals, could acquire some guns, the sheer quantity they possessed still gave Su Yu a huge shock.

"Get on the defensive!"

Su Yu’s pupils shrank as he yelled. The physical bodies of Sequencers were not as tough as those of Martial Artists. Even fifth or sixth-rank Sequencers couldn’t withstand these firearms with their bodies alone.

Of course, if they protected their bodies with Sequence Energy, it was a completely different story.

The others immediately withdrew their Sequence Energy, abandoning their offensive intentions to focus wholly on defense. Only Su Yu counterattacked. A red light flashed in his palm, and a long spear instantly materialized. The tip of the spear swept out, causing the purple mist to churn as it deflected all the incoming bullets.

His spearmanship was so exquisite that even Su Xing would have been impressed and would have thought that Su Yu had progressed with astonishing speed. It was just that Su Xing paid little attention to his younger brother’s progress on the Extraordinary path. Su Yu’s advancement had never once stopped.

After all, Su Yu was also a designated genius and had his own opportunities. It was only in Su Xing’s presence that his own brilliance was hard to see.

"Break."

Su Yu uttered a single word. The white worms inhabiting the bodies of the black-clad men suddenly burst. One after another, the men in black collapsed bonelessly to the ground, as if dead.

This was Su Yu’s Second Sequence: Judgment. As his realm grew higher, he no longer needed to consume his lifespan when facing weaker units, unlike before.

"Heh heh... Team Leader Su has some real skill, to think you could even discover the Puppet White Worms left by Sister Tong."

"What a pity..."

"To think these worms would actually die. Now I don’t have many left. This is a huge loss for me, you know."

From deep within the purple mist, a laugh like silver bells echoed. A woman in a crimson dress appeared, walking barefoot atop a venomous python. She was toying with a wisp of pale purple Spiritual Qi at her fingertips.

She called herself Wuna, a member of Jile Valley. She had harassed the special organization in Cang City on multiple occasions, which was why Su Yu’s objective on this mission was to eliminate her.

But...

’She shouldn’t have known she was exposed. So why does it seem like she had an ambush prepared, just waiting for me and my team to show up?’

"Team Leader Su, do you know what this purple poison is?"

"..."

Su Yu didn’t speak. Although he was young, the year he had spent in the special organization had added a touch of maturity to his still-youthful face. This was especially true during the time he was away from Su Xing, which had forced Su Yu to grow up quickly.

Now,

he was a team leader acknowledged by the organization.

But even now, he couldn’t identify what this purple toxic mist was. It wasn’t because Su Yu was ignorant, but because Jile Valley’s strange and wicked arts were simply too numerous. Many of them were legacies from ancient Demon Sects, containing methods and techniques that outsiders could scarcely imagine.

For example, the Puppet White Worm was said to have been created by a Demoness named Tong Yinyin. It could turn corpses into puppets that were nearly indistinguishable from the living, even retaining their original strength. Using such worms in certain situations was truly terrifying.

Therefore, the forces of the Spirit Realm and the hawkish faction of the Martial God Hall should never have been able to resist Cang City’s current special organization. But with Jile Valley’s interference, what should have been a complete steamroll had turned into a drawn-out war of attrition, with neither side able to secure a decisive victory.

That was why Su Yu and the others had been sent to eliminate these members of Jile Valley, in an attempt to weaken the group’s power and influence in Cang City. The fact that even Su Yu was sent into the field was proof that the special organization was going all out.

"Why aren’t you talking?"

Wuna chuckled softly. She sat atop the head of the giant python that had appeared from nowhere, looking down on the people below.

"Oh, well... Since you were reckless enough to charge in here, you probably won’t be getting out. I suppose there’s no harm in telling you."

"Haven’t you noticed?"

"The Sequence Energy here is weakening."

"This was specially developed by our Jile Valley to deal with you people from Cang City. I mean, who told you to be so different from other special organizations, being made up entirely of Sequencers?"

"..."

Su Yu remained silent, but the expressions on the others’ faces turned grim. They realized that trapped in this mist, their defeat was only a matter of time. If a Sequencer’s Sequence Energy was suppressed, they were only slightly stronger than an ordinary person.

’The only option now is to break through.’

This thought appeared in everyone’s mind at almost the same time. They couldn’t drag this out any longer. If they continued to stall, they would be completely helpless once their Sequence Energy failed them.

However, would Wuna really let this small team break through so easily? Obviously not. Since she had set such an ambush, she must have anticipated that someone would come to kill her, and she would naturally have a backup plan.

A backup plan to prevent their escape. With a flick of her pristine white wrist, a bolt of purple Spiritual Qi shot from the tips of her red-polished nails. The purple Spiritual Qi instantly pierced through the protective Sequence Energy of the Sequencer holding the black sniper rifle.

The sniper faltered for a moment, her expression turning vacant. She moved the muzzle of her rifle, aimed it at Su Yu, and pulled the trigger.

BANG!

The bullet shot out!

A sniper rifle bullet is incredibly fast, especially one from a special rifle enhanced by Sequence power. The moment she fired, it was almost impossible for anyone to react.

Everything happened too fast. No one expected a trusted teammate to suddenly attack Su Yu. It seemed their team leader was about to fall.

Just at that critical moment, a crimson longsword suddenly slashed down from above the abandoned factory, cleaving both the toxic mist and the speeding bullet in two.

"Who goes there?!"

The bewitching smile on Wuna’s face froze. The purple Spiritual Qi shattered under the force of the sword strike, and the Sequencer she had been briefly controlling snapped back to her senses.

The sword,

was now embedded quietly in the ground.

It was crimson from hilt to tip, and the image of a circling phoenix was faintly visible on its blade. Su Yu was more familiar with this symbol than anyone. He immediately spoke in surprise:

"The Sparrow Sword?"

"Brother, you’re back?"

"Yeah, I’m back." Su Xing, dressed in casual clothes, had appeared beside the sword at some unknown point. He gently drew the Sparrow Sword, and then...

HUMMM!

As the sword was raised, a sharp ring burst forth!

Immediately, all the rain for miles around froze in mid-air. The internal organs of the Jile Valley disciples all ruptured, and the giant python beneath Wuna’s feet exploded into a fine mist of blood.

When the sword’s ring faded, the factory was left with nothing but a floor covered in sword marks, the dumbfounded members of the special organization, and the surviving girl, Wuna.

In reality, this Wuna was only at the sixth rank. To Su Xing, such a level of power was barely worth a glance. If Su Xing had wanted to, he could have blasted her into a bloody mist just like the snake.

However, Su Xing had questions to ask, so he had grudgingly spared her life.
