System Glitch! I Accidentally Saved The Zombie Emperor
Chapter 142: The New Neighbors
As blood spilled from his severed waist, the man lifted his head. The moment he saw Ye Xuan standing on the rooftop, his eyes widened in shock.
Even in death, his face remained frozen in an expression of disbelief and horror, while his eyes reflected his unwillingness to accept his fate.
After dealing with the two intruders, Ye Xuan scanned the surroundings. When he saw that the two groups of people spying on the villa had retreated, he climbed down from the rooftop.
Ye Xuan went to the backyard to inspect the first corpse. After searching the body for a while, he found nothing except a handgun equipped with a silencer.
Putting away the handgun, Ye Xuan climbed over the wall and went to check the second body.
The moment he landed outside the wall, he sensed several gazes falling on him. Raising his eyes, Ye Xuan looked in the direction of those gazes and noticed movement inside the nearby villas.
Glancing coldly at the villas, he made a mental note to investigate their owners later before walking over to the second body.
Crouching beside the corpse, Ye Xuan examined it carefully.
Finding nothing else on the body, he opened the backpack. Inside, he found only a handgun, a box containing 20 rounds of ammunition, two packs of compressed biscuits, and two bottles of mineral water.
Seeing that there was nothing else worth taking, he stood up, slung the backpack over his shoulder, and returned to the villa, leaving the corpse where it was.
After climbing back into the backyard, Ye Xuan put down the backpack and picked up the first corpse. He then climbed over the wall again.
Instead of disposing of the body, he casually tossed it on top of the second corpse before returning to the villa.
Inside the nearby villas, the people spying on their new neighbors witnessed the entire scene. Seeing how effortlessly Ye Xuan had dealt with the two men and how casually he had tossed one corpse onto the other, their expressions changed.
Standing beside the floor-to-ceiling glass window, a middle-aged man calmly drew the curtains before turning around.
Sitting in the main seat on the couch, an old man noticed the change in his expression and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Walking over to the couch, the middle-aged man sat down and looked at the old man. "Father, I’m afraid our new neighbors are not as simple as they seem."
Hearing this, the old man’s eyes flickered briefly. "Why do you say that?"
The middle-aged man recalled what he had just witnessed before replying, "Father, I just saw how effortlessly the young man leading that group dealt with the two men sent by the Leng Family. I’m afraid he’s at least a Level 2 ability user."
Upon hearing this, the old man’s expression darkened.
After a brief moment of silence, he said, "Tomorrow, send someone to prepare a gift and visit our new neighbors. Remember, we must avoid offending them for now."
The middle-aged man nodded and replied, "Understood. I will have my son visit them tomorrow morning."
While the father and son discussed a suitable gift for their new neighbors, in another villa, the patriarch of the Leng Family listened to his subordinate’s report in his study.
"Master, the two men we sent out today are dead. They were killed by the young man leading the group that arrived today," reported the captain, who was dressed in a black combat uniform.
Sitting behind his mahogany desk, Leng Yi, dressed in a black combat uniform, slowly turned the black jade ring on his left thumb. It was his habit whenever he was deep in thought.
Seeing this, the captain lowered his head.
After a long moment of silence, Leng Yi finally raised his eyes and asked, "Have they found out anything?"
The captain shook his head and replied, "No, Master. When our men found the bodies, they had been left on the roadside."
Noticing the captain’s hesitation, Leng Yi said, "Speak if you have something to say."
With his master’s permission, the captain took several photographs from his pocket and placed them on the desk.
"Master, you might want to take a look at these."
Raising his eyebrows slightly, Leng Yi reached for the photographs and examined them. The moment he saw them, his eyes turned cold.
Looking up from the photographs, he asked, "Did anyone witness how our men were killed?"
"We found out that three people witnessed the scene. However, they might not be willing to tell us anything about what happened," the captain answered.
"Oh? Who are they?" Leng Yi asked, a hint of interest mixed in his cold voice.
"They are the Second Master of the Mo Family, the Young Master of the Shen Family, and the Eldest Master of the Bo Family."
Leng Yi slowly tapped the armrest with his index finger as he listened to the captain’s answer.
Seeing that his master showed no further reaction, the captain lowered his head and waited silently.
Several minutes passed before Leng Yi finally gave his order. "Tell our men to stand down and keep an eye on those people for now. In the meantime, contact the Mo Family, Shen Family, and the Bo Family. Try to find out how that man killed our men."
"Yes, Master."
After issuing the order, Leng Yi added, "You may leave now."
The captain saluted him before leaving the study.
Once the door closed behind him, Leng Yi stood up and walked toward the balcony.
Staring at the villa near the main entrance of the residential area, his eyes flickered as he murmured softly, "A group of young people. This is getting interesting."
Raising his head, he gazed at the Blood Moon hanging in the night sky.
"Perhaps they are the ones I have been waiting for. I hope they can pass the test and won’t disappoint me."
As his voice was carried away by a gust of wind, the night grew deeper, and one by one, the survivors gradually drifted into a deep slumber after another exhausting day of fighting for their lives.
