Gu Hao stared at his nephew for a moment before sighing softly.

"Lingjian, of course your uncle believes you. With Professor Lin here, there’s a good chance your paternal cousin will recover. Not to mention that you also brought back the samples. As long as Xuanming can hold on a little longer, he’ll be fine."

Realizing that his third paternal uncle had misunderstood him, Gu Lingjian quickly clarified, "No, Third Paternal Uncle. What I mean is that we’ve already found the medicine."

The moment his words fell, Gu Hao froze in his seat. He blinked twice before slowly asking, "What did you say?"

Gu Lingjian turned toward his teammates. Seeing them nod in encouragement, he took a deep breath before looking back at Gu Hao.

Clenching his fists, Gu Lingjian said solemnly, "Third Paternal Uncle, I said that we’ve already found the medicine that can cure the X Virus. Elder Brother Xuanming can be saved."

Coming out of his shock, Gu Hao suddenly stood up and grabbed Gu Lingjian’s hands. Looking into his eyes, he asked in a trembling voice, "Tell me the details."

Gu Lingjian nodded before recounting what had happened in Ji City.

"When we were in Ji City, we encountered a horde of zombies. By then, ninety of our brothers had already lost their lives in the underground laboratory, and only ten of us managed to reach the outskirts of the city. Just when I thought we weren’t going to make it, we encountered a young lady."

"I’m not sure how she did it, but she killed thousands of zombies in the blink of an eye. After that, she disappeared."

Gu Lingjian frowned as he recalled his first encounter with Liu Yun.

"What happened after that?" Gu Hao asked.

Raising his eyes to meet Gu Hao’s gaze, Gu Lingjian continued, "Just when I thought we’d never see her again, she appeared in front of us once more. At the time, she was picking something up from the ground."

As he spoke, Gu Lingjian took several crystal cores out of his pocket and placed them on the table.

Seeing the transparent crystals, Gu Hao picked one up and examined it curiously. "What is this?"

"It’s a crystal that forms inside a zombie’s head," Gu Lingjian replied calmly.

The moment he heard this, Gu Hao’s fingers trembled, causing the crystal core to fall onto the table.

Ding!

The crisp sound echoed through the silent meeting room, jolting Gu Hao out of his shock. "What did you just say? These crystals come from inside zombies’ heads?"

Gu Lingjian nodded. "Yes."

Noticing the mixture of shock and disgust on his third paternal uncle’s face, he calmly explained, "Captain Lian and Miss Liu also know about the existence of these crystals. Miss Liu calls them crystal cores, and she seems to like them very much."

Raising a hand to interrupt Gu Lingjian, Gu Hao rubbed his aching temples in confusion. "Wait a moment. What do these crystal cores have to do with the medicine we’re talking about?"

At his question, Gu Lingjian’s expression turned serious. He gestured toward Mu Nan before saying, "Third Paternal Uncle, Xiao Mu was scratched by a zombie’s claw when we were surrounded by the zombie horde in Ji City."

"What?!" Gu Hao exclaimed in disbelief.

Gu Lingjian glanced at Mu Nan before saying, "Xiao Mu, show Third Paternal Uncle."

Mu Nan nodded and rolled up his sleeve, revealing the long scar on his arm. "Great Commander, this is the scar left by the zombie."

Hearing this, Gu Hao leaned closer to examine the scar. Seeing that it was pink and appeared to be healing, he realized that the injury had occurred relatively recently.

It was common knowledge that once someone was infected with the X Virus, only two outcomes were possible. Either they survived and awakened an ability, or they turned into a zombie.

After a long moment of silence, Gu Hao turned toward Gu Lingjian. "So, is there really a medicine that can cure the X Virus? Not just a vaccine that slows down the mutation?"

Gu Lingjian nodded in confirmation.

A few seconds later, Gu Hao continued, "And this medicine is connected to Miss Liu and these crystal cores?"

Gu Lingjian nodded again. "Yes."

After receiving his confirmation, Gu Hao sat back down and fell into deep thought. A long silence passed before he finally spoke. "Do you plan to buy the medicine from Miss Liu using crystal cores?"

"Yes," Gu Lingjian answered calmly.

Gu Hao stared at him for a long while before saying, "This kind of medicine is unheard of. Even if Miss Liu still has some, are you sure she’ll be willing to sell it to us? And will she really accept crystal cores as payment?"

Gu Lingjian sighed helplessly when he asked this.

"To be honest, I’m not sure. However, rather than simply waiting for Professor Lin, we should try contacting Miss Liu as soon as possible. Third Paternal Uncle, Elder Brother Xuanming is running out of time. We can’t gamble with his life by doing nothing."

As the current patriarch of the Gu Family, Gu Hao had a responsibility to protect both Gu Lingjian and Gu Xuanming. This responsibility stemmed not only from his position as patriarch but also from the fact that these two young men were the only surviving descendants of his eldest and second elder brothers.

Closing his eyes, Gu Hao fell silent.

Seeing this, Gu Lingjian called out to Gu Hao as hope flickered in his eyes, "Third Paternal Uncle."

Gu Hao slowly opened his eyes and looked at Gu Lingjian and the others. Noticing the hope and determination in their eyes, he finally made his decision.

"Alright. Lingjian, you’ll be responsible for contacting Miss Liu and asking her about the medicine. Meanwhile, I’ll have Captain Lian and the other teams collect more crystal cores."

Gu Lingjian and his teammates stood up, saluted Gu Hao, and replied in unison, "Yes, Great Commander!"

Waving his hand, Gu Hao said, "You all may leave now."

Understanding what Gu Hao intended to do next, Gu Lingjian and the others left the meeting room.

Left alone, Gu Hao picked up one of the crystal cores. As he stared at it, he sank into deep thought.
