System Glitch! I Accidentally Saved The Zombie Emperor
Chapter 151: Blood Samples, Secret Documents
After the young man disappeared from her sight, Liu Yun turned to Ru Jianxiao and said, "Elder Brother Ru, let’s go check out the mission."
Ru Jianxiao studied her expression thoughtfully for a few seconds before nodding. "Mhm."
Walking out of the alley, Liu Yun and Ru Jianxiao blended into the crowd as they made their way into the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Meanwhile, on the third floor of the Civil Affairs Bureau building, Gu Lingjian and his team sat around a long table, facing the Great Commander, Gu Hao, and the senior officers of Lie Huo Military Base.
Pushing the files across the table toward Gu Hao, Gu Lingjian said, "Great Commander, these are the secret documents we found in the underground laboratory in Ji City."
Gu Hao took the documents and began reading them carefully.
While he was examining the contents, Gu Lingjian continued, "Besides the secret documents, we also found several intact samples."
As he spoke, Fu Shuo took a small metal box out of his backpack and placed it on the table. Opening the box, he revealed its contents to everyone present.
The moment Lin Fubo saw the five glass vials inside the metal box, he shot to his feet in shock. "This—!"
Looking at him, Gu Lingjian asked, "Professor Lin, do you know what this is?"
Lin Fubo reached for one of the glass vials and examined the crimson-red liquid inside. Pushing his glasses up slightly, he narrowed his eyes.
A few seconds passed before his eyes suddenly widened. He exclaimed in disbelief, "Impossible! This is impossible!"
Frowning slightly, Xu Kangxiang said impatiently, "Professor Lin, please stop talking to yourself. Can you just tell us what that liquid is?"
Swallowing hard, Lin Fubo turned toward Xu Kangxiang and spoke in a trembling voice.
"Chief Doctor Xu, there might really be a way to save Base Commander Gu. Not only that, but we might also be able to develop a vaccine for the X Virus."
The moment his words fell, Gu Hao and the others looked at him with hope in their eyes.
Setting the secret documents aside, Gu Hao took a deep breath to steady himself before asking seriously, "Professor Lin, are you certain about this?"
Lin Fubo nodded and pointed at the documents on the table. "With these blood samples, as long as at least half of the data remains intact, I’m 80% confident that I can develop the vaccine."
Hearing this, Xu Kangxiang slammed his hand on the table and jumped to his feet excitedly. "Then we must hurry! Base Commander Gu doesn’t have much time left!"
His words reminded Lin Fubo of the urgency of the situation. He carefully placed the sample back inside the metal box and closed it.
Looking at Gu Hao and everyone else present, he said, "Chief Doctor Xu is right. I’ll take these samples and the secret documents back to my laboratory immediately."
"If we have sufficient data and everything goes smoothly, we should be able to produce the first batch of the X Virus vaccine before Base Commander Gu runs out of time."
Hearing this, Gu Hao stood up, handed the secret documents to Lin Fubo, and said solemnly, "Professor Lin, we’re entrusting the future of humanity and Xuanming’s life to you and your team. Please do everything you can."
"Don’t worry. I’ll do my best." Leaving those words behind, Lin Fubo took the documents and the box, then hurried out of the room.
After the door closed behind him, Gu Hao sat down in the main seat and turned toward Gu Lingjian. "Lingjian, report the casualties from the secret mission."
Clenching his fists, Gu Lingjian lowered his eyes to hide his emotions.
Several seconds passed in silence before he finally replied, "Out of the one hundred soldiers who participated in the secret mission, only five of us returned alive. Ninety soldiers lost their lives in the underground laboratory, while another five died on our way back."
The moment he finished speaking, Gu Hao’s expression darkened, as did those of the senior officers.
Gu Lingjian’s team was the best special forces unit at the Central Military Base, consisting entirely of ability users. Given the devastating casualties they had suffered, everyone present could imagine just how dangerous the secret mission had been.
Clenching his fists, Gu Hao said, "Tell us the details."
Raising his eyes, Gu Lingjian looked at everyone present, then began calmly, "Great Commander Gu, the underground laboratory had been equipped with a self-destruction system. When we extracted the data from their main server, we accidentally triggered it, resulting in the loss of ninety soldiers."
"Also, there’s a Mutant Rat King in Ji City. It can control other mutant rats and possesses a sound-based ability. Based on our observations, we estimate that its intelligence is comparable to that of a ten-year-old child."
Hearing this, Gu Hao’s eyes darkened. He frowned slightly before turning toward one of the senior officers.
"General Han, have we received any reports about this?" Gu Hao asked.
A middle-aged woman in her early forties, dressed in a military uniform, nodded and replied, "Yesterday, Captain Lian submitted a report about this matter."
"This morning, I issued a mission to recruit ability users to eliminate the Mutant Rat King. If everything goes according to plan, we’ll deploy the troops in two days."
Gu Hao considered this for a few seconds before saying, "Very well. General Han, you’ll be fully responsible for this operation."
Han Yaojia nodded in response. "Yes, Great Commander."
After delegating the task to her, Gu Hao turned back to Gu Lingjian. Noticing his furrowed brows, he asked, "Lingjian, is there anything else you need to report?"
Instead of answering, Gu Lingjian glanced at the other senior officers.
Seeing this, Gu Hao turned toward them and said, "Let’s conclude today’s meeting here. You may all leave for now."
The senior officers stood up, saluted Gu Hao, and filed out of the room one after another.
Once only Gu Lingjian and his team remained in the spacious meeting room, Gu Hao looked at his nephew and asked, "Lingjian, can you tell your uncle now?"
Gu Lingjian glanced at Mu Nan, hesitated for a moment, then turned to his third paternal uncle.
"Third Paternal Uncle, would you believe me if I told you that there’s a medicine capable of completely curing the X Virus?"
