Chapter 150: Progress: 25%

Looking at the crowded main entrance, Liu Yun glanced around curiously. "There are more people here today than yesterday."

Ru Jianxiao nodded in agreement before stopping a young man who had just come out of the Civil Affairs Bureau. "Excuse me, Brother."

The young man paused and looked at Ru Jianxiao warily. "What do you want?"

Noticing the young man’s wary expression, Ru Jianxiao spoke politely. "Sorry to stop you, but I’ve noticed that there are more people here today. Is something going on?"

Hearing this, the young man’s expression relaxed slightly. He scanned Ru Jianxiao and Liu Yun up and down for a moment before saying, "You two must be new here."

Ru Jianxiao nodded. "Yes. We only arrived yesterday."

Nodding in understanding, the young man added, "I see. No wonder you don’t know."

"Is there something important we’re missing?" Liu Yun asked curiously.

The young man turned toward her before asking, "Have you heard about the new mission issued by the base?"

"I heard about the new mission, but I don’t know the details," Liu Yun replied.

The young man studied them for a few seconds before explaining, "Those people are all here to check out the new mission. If you’re not an ability user, I recommend that you don’t take part in it."

Liu Yun blinked twice before asking, "What do you know, Brother? Could you tell us more about it?"

"..." The young man stared at her in silence.

Under his calm gaze, Liu Yun suddenly realized what he was waiting for. She coughed lightly before taking a pack of instant noodles out of her Dimensional Space.

When the young man saw this, his eyes widened in shock. "Young Lady, you are a spatial-element ability user!"

Liu Yun had grown accustomed to this kind of reaction ever since she began pretending to be a spatial-element ability user. She handed the pack of instant noodles to the young man and politely asked, "Brother, could you tell us the details now?"

Accepting the instant noodles, the young man lowered his voice and asked back, "Since you two are new here, you guys probably don’t know much about the new Base Commander, do you?"

Liu Yun’s eyes flickered curiously at his words. She nodded and asked, "Is something wrong with the new Base Commander?"

The young man glanced around before pulling Liu Yun and Ru Jianxiao away from the Civil Affairs Bureau’s main entrance. After finding a secluded spot, he spoke in a hushed voice.

"Rumor has it that our new Base Commander isn’t human."

Hearing this, Liu Yun wasn’t surprised. Pei Rui had told her about these rumors the previous day.

Seeing no reaction from either Liu Yun or Ru Jianxiao, the young man continued, "However, that’s not the whole truth."

Liu Yun immediately perked up her ears at his words.

The young man swallowed nervously before adding, "One of my teammates accidentally saw the new Base Commander last week."

Noticing the fear in his expression, Ru Jianxiao’s gaze sharpened as he asked, "Is something wrong with the new Base Commander?"

The young man nodded before whispering, "My teammate said that the new Base Commander is a zombie!"

The moment his words fell, both Liu Yun and Ru Jianxiao were stunned.

Recalling what she had heard from the survivors on her way to Lie Huo Military Base, Liu Yun thought, ’I remember those two men saying that the new Base Commander was rumored to drink blood.’

’Also, a lot of people have gone missing since the new Base Commander’s arrival, with most of them being children. Could these disappearances really be connected to the new Base Commander?’

While Liu Yun was thinking, Ru Jianxiao asked, "This isn’t a joke. Is your teammate sure about what he saw?"

The young man nodded repeatedly and replied, "Of course! Although it was nighttime when he saw the Base Commander, my teammate had awakened a Sharp-eyesight ability. His vision is much better than that of ordinary people. He said he saw everything clearly."

The moment he finished speaking, a transparent blue screen appeared in front of Liu Yun.

Ding!

Liu Yun’s eyes lit up when she saw the updated progress. ’Twenty-five percent! Looks like coming out today really was the right decision!’

Suppressing her excitement, she calmly asked the young man, "Since you know that the new Base Commander is a zombie, why don’t you report this to the military?"

The young man looked at her as if she were an idiot before replying, "Young Lady, don’t you know that this base is controlled by the military?"

"The new Base Commander was appointed by the military, so I bet they already know his true identity as a zombie. Do you think I’d still be standing here talking to you if my team or I reported this to the military?"

Realizing how naive her question had been, Liu Yun responded awkwardly, "Erm... you’re right."

Patting her own head, Liu Yun scolded, ’This stupid brain! He is right. I shouldn’t fully trust the military in this world. Humans are more dangerous than zombies here.’

While Liu Yun was reminding herself, the young man rolled his eyes at her before adding, "Since you two are new here, listen to my advice. Forget everything you heard from me today. We’ve never met, and we’ve never talked. Do you understand?"

Ru Jianxiao and Liu Yun nodded. "Understood. Thank you for your reminder."

After saying this, the young man took a step away but suddenly stopped in his tracks. Looking down at the pack of instant noodles in his arms, he turned around and spoke in a low voice.

"Remember, don’t get involved in this matter if you want to see the light of another day."

Leaving those words behind, he cautiously scanned his surroundings before quickly disappearing into the crowded street.
