System Glitch! I Accidentally Saved The Zombie Emperor
Chapter 155: Conclusion, Troubled
Shocked, Liu Yun mentally reviewed all the clues she had gathered about the new Base Commander.
’First, those two men said that the new Base Commander had never appeared in public since taking office. They also mentioned that he never ate and was rumored to drink blood.’
’Second, Pei Rui said that the new Base Commander wasn’t human. Third, the young man we met today said that the new Base Commander was a zombie, and that the military knew about it.’
As she pieced the clues together, Liu Yun’s heart sank. Her eyes widened as she stared at Gu Lingjian and his teammates.
’Grass! The new Base Commander really is a zombie, and he is also Captain Gu’s older paternal cousin!’
The moment she reached this conclusion, another notification rang in her mind.
Ding!
[Hidden Mission: Uncover the Secret of the New Base Commander of Lie Huo Military Base — Progress +25%]
The notification confirmed that her deduction was correct. Liu Yun swallowed nervously and checked the mission panel again. After reading the reward and penalty, she took a deep breath to steady herself.
’Now isn’t the time to drool over the reward. The real problem is the penalty. The destruction of Lie Huo Military Base and the increase in the world’s destruction progress are no joke.’
’If things go south, I might still have a chance to escape Lie Huo Military Base. But if the world is destroyed, I’m definitely doomed. Since I have no other choice, I can only move forward!’
Having made up her mind, she called out to the System in her thoughts. ’System, I have something to ask you.’
Two seconds later, the System’s mechanical voice sounded in her mind. [Player, what do you want to ask?]
’System, aside from the special medicines, is there any other way to save the new Base Commander?’
[No.]
Receiving such a blunt answer, Liu Yun immediately asked another question. ’Then, can you let me buy one more Genesis Rebirth Serum or Origin Zero Serum?’
[I’m sorry, Player, but you have already reached this month’s purchase quota.]
Hearing this, Liu Yun groaned in frustration. ’System, how am I supposed to complete the mission if I can’t buy the medicine? You should at least give me something useful to help me complete it, right?’
She waited for a long time, but the System remained silent. Gritting her teeth, she thought, ’This dog System is pretending to be dead again!’
After closing the mission panel, Liu Yun turned to Gu Lingjian. "Captain Gu, it’s getting late. If there’s nothing else, we will take our leave."
Pulled out of his thoughts, Gu Lingjian gave her an apologetic smile. "I’m sorry for taking up your time, Miss Liu. We will visit you again another day to buy some lemon tea."
"Sure. I will be waiting for your visit." Liu Yun stood up and then left with Ru Jianxiao.
After closing the door behind them, Chen Chuan returned to the couch. He glanced at his teammates and asked, "What should we do now?"
Gu Lingjian shook his head without saying a word.
Noticing the helplessness and despair in his eyes, Chen Chuan suddenly said, "I think Miss Liu is quite interested in Base Commander Gu."
His words immediately drew everyone’s attention.
"Why do you say that?" Lu Shen asked.
Chen Chuan tapped his index finger against the low table as he explained, "I have been observing Miss Liu and her friend since they sat down. When her friend asked about Base Commander Gu, I noticed that Miss Liu’s eyes suddenly widened in surprise."
"Not only that, but she also stared at the captain for quite a while. Based on her microexpressions, I suspect she realized that the captain’s paternal cousin is Base Commander Gu."
Seeing that everyone had fallen into thought, Chen Chuan continued, "Captain, I have a plan. Would you like to listen to it?"
Gu Lingjian nodded. "Tell us the details."
Gesturing for the others to move closer, Chen Chuan lowered his voice and began explaining, "First, we should..."
While they busied themselves discussing the plan, time flew by in the blink of an eye.
As the sun slowly sank toward the western horizon, Liu Yun and Ru Jianxiao finally returned to the small villa.
Standing outside, Liu Yun looked at the rusty metal gate that had been replaced with a sturdier one. Although the replacement wasn’t new, it looked much stronger and more durable than the old, rusty gate.
Just as she was about to open it, Gu Zhenwei walked out of the villa, carrying two large trash bags.
"Little Sister Liu, Brother Jianxiao, you guys are finally back!" Gu Zhenwei said as he placed the two trash bags in a corner of the front yard.
Pushing open the metal gate, Liu Yun stepped into the now-tidy front yard, with Ru Jianxiao following behind her.
She surveyed the yard before commenting with a hint of admiration in her voice, "Whoa, Elder Brother Gu, you guys are amazing! This place looks completely different from how it did yesterday."
Lifting his chin proudly, Gu Zhenwei replied, "Of course! Don’t you know who you are talking about?"
Liu Yun chuckled at his words and followed him inside. "Elder Brother Gu, where are the others?"
Gu Zhenwei pointed toward the ceiling and replied, "Brother Xuan is fixing the roof, Brother Zuancheng is preparing dinner, and Brother Sixun is cleaning up the trash in the backyard."
"I’m going to help Brother Sixun take out the trash now. You two can wash your hands and wait for dinner."
Liu Yun nodded. "Mhm. I’m going to take a bath first. Please call me when dinner is ready."
"Got it," Gu Zhenwei replied. He then turned to Ru Jianxiao and added, "Brother Jianxiao, you can go and rest first."
"No need. I will help you take out the trash," Ru Jianxiao said as he headed toward the backyard.
Seeing that Ru Jianxiao didn’t look tired, Gu Zhenwei shrugged and followed him.
