Chapter 766: A TWIST OF FATE

RUBY’S POV

I stood there in utter disbelief.

Unsure of what I believed

Refusing to believe any of it.

The eyes of everyone was on me.

The wolves on the table, the wolves standing guard and the she wolves who stood beside me.

They all stared in disbelief.

I looked at Aiden and we made eye contact again.

"Ruby!" The guard called out my name again.

This time confirming what I had feared was true.

I didn’t break contact neither did Aiden.

I just stared on like a dumb fool.

"Ruby. You have been chosen of a task worthy by the soon to be Alpha of the Moonlight pack." The guard announced.

Chosen of a task worthy my foot!

"Step forward." The guard stated.

My fingers numb and my stance in shock, I didn’t make a move.

I stood there like an absolute idiot.

All the wolves growled at me in union.

Even the ones beside me.

I was disobeying the one who carried the Alpha’s blood hence why they had become aggressive towards me.

I swallowed heavily and slowly stepped away from where I stood.

I turned and saw Alice’s face.

It was masked with sadness, hurt, disappointment and most of hate.

My lower lips trembled.

I slowly walked up the path beside the chairs that led to where the wolves at the table sat and walked up to where the guard beside Aiden spoke.

"You would carry out all of his requests without hesitation." He informed.

Dread filled my entire being.

"You are never to question him. Do you understand?" He asked me.

I turned to glare at Aiden who had not but an expressions-less face on.

He didn’t look pleased or enthusiastic.

He simply looked cold.

Was this a bid he had created to punish me.

I clenched my fists by my side.

The anger boiling inside me.

All I wanted to was giving him not a dirty slap this time, but a blow at his stupid face.

One that would break his jaw and destroy his pretty face for life.

Oh I hated him.

How much I hated him.

"Do you understand ?" The Guard insisted.

"I understand." I said through choked words.

And then the guard turned to him.

Aiden nodded before the guard faced me saying. "You may be dismissed."

It felt like a heavy load had been placed on my head. The weight of the burden weighing me down.

I returned back to where I stood with the rest of the girls and I could feel their piercing gaze.

No one uttered a word.

No one could utter a word.

We all remained standing there quietly.

And a few minutes later Aiden snapped his finger.

The guard nodded at me and I walked to Aiden’s side.

Aiden picked up his empty goblet indicating he desired wine.

Angry and furious but yet defeated, I picked up the gold jar and poured for him.

He remained seated snapping his fingers at me to request the most menial tasks.

They were outright humiliating.

I knew he did it to humiliate me.

What more could be the reason.

Once the dinner was done for, I hurriedly made my escape.

I gathered the now empty tray I had brought in the first place as I hurried out of the dinning table.

I didn’t wait hear whether I was going to follow Aiden everywhere around.

It was the last thing I cared about.

I hurried out of the door amidst stares from everyone else.

Alice was already marching way ahead of anyone else.

I could feel how angry she was already.

"Alice! Alice!" I called out to her.

However she refused to acknowledge me.

I went to her side and caught her arm. "Alice I-

I tried to speak but she quickly withdrew her arm away from my hand and went on marching ahead.

"Alice!" I said louder.

I then ran up to her and stood in her very front.

"Alice." I said.

She went to the side.

I did the same.

She went to the other side.

So did I.

"Alice you can’t ignore me." I said. "We need to talk about this. Please."

She glared at me, her eyes already turning bright green.

The impact of her wolf getting upset.

"Talk about what Ruby." Alice said in a cold voice.

How did I even start?

How did I even explain.

Ruby sighed heavily. "Alice I had no idea he was going to do that."

"Oh please." Alice rolled her eyes in vivid disgust and tried to go the other side.

I quickly went that way and blocked her path.

"Please listen to me." I pleaded and she remained standing, but refused to look at me. "I promise you that I will never hurt you. Never."

Alice’s face went red. "You’re telling me that you had no idea that he was going to call you out of the blues? You claimed you don’t even like him."

"I don’t!" I insisted.

She scoffed. "And yet out of everyone in the pack. He called you. You!"

And the her face screwed with sadness.

"Why Ruby?" She asked me. "Why would you do this to me. After everything I told you, you chose to hurt me in the most cruel way. You watched me tell you secrets I have never told anyone. And yet you looked at me like a fool. The entire time you were scheming in my very front."

"Alice please." I began but she rose her hand.

And then she looked at me squarely. "What is about you Ruby?"

"I see the way everyone in the pack looks are you. How they all want you." She said and I swallowed hard. "Like you’re someone’s divine goddess. Like you’re some princess. You never lived in the pack and yet you would carry their gaze. The moment you come here you treat them like dirt. Treat the male wolves like they are beneath you. And yet you’ve been plotting to have him for yourself. The one thing I have ever wanted."

"Alice I-

"Get out of my way bitch!" She snapped at me, pushing me to the ground.
