Chapter 142: Chapter 142: The Two Sisters

Ever since advancing to the Second Order a week ago and officially confirming their relationship, Jasper Payne had become her pillar of support. He patiently taught her how to dispatch zombies and upgrade her superpower, tolerating all her little temper tantrums. Even when Luna Dawson knocked out two of her teeth, Jasper Payne spent a hefty amount of Crystal Cores to take her to the Third District Hospital for implants. Yolanda Kramer felt that as long as she held him tightly, all her fears would be kept at bay.

Catching a glimpse of the two clinging to each other from the corner of her eye, a fleeting look of malice flashed in Shay Kramer’s eyes. Secretly composing herself, she slightly lifted her body to lean against the second-floor window and look outside.

Just then, a sudden roar echoed from the distance. A beam of headlights SWOOSHED through the dark night sky. They could vaguely make out a vehicle approaching from afar, eventually stopping at the intersection right before the overpass. The group was only about twenty meters away. Hearing the commotion, they all hurriedly pressed against the window to peer out.

The glaring headlights illuminated the scene clearly—countless vines were darting out rapidly in all directions. The dozens of zombies drawn to the noise collapsed before they could even get close to the vehicle. A few purple vines, as thick as wrists, even WHOOSHED right past their window.

Startled, Shay instinctively turned and tried to grab Jasper Payne’s hand. However, just as her fingers were about to brush against his sleeve, he discreetly shifted aside to avoid her touch. His movement was so natural it merely looked like he was shifting his stance. Yolanda Kramer, standing right beside them with sharp eyes, saw this scene unfold clearly and furrowed her brows slightly. Eliza Hale also took in this little episode. She couldn’t help but let out a soft huff, a hint of amused mockery flashing in her eyes as she watched the drama. Only Jesse Payne was completely oblivious to the tense romantic undercurrents swirling between the three people beside his brother, solely focused on pressing against the window to peer toward the main gate.

The others were also startled by the commotion. They huddled together, whispering as they observed the situation outside. Wherever that massive off-road vehicle passed, the surrounding zombies were completely wiped out, leaving only a field of corpses lying there.

"It’s that team from this morning!" Jackson Carter’s voice was filled with shock. He stuttered slightly, his tone carrying a trace of worship for the strong.

Jasper Payne stared intently, his tone calm as he replied, "It’s them."

It was these exact purple vines that nearly caused them to crash that morning; he remembered it vividly. But this team’s strength was far greater than he had imagined. They actually managed to clear out all the nearby zombies without even stepping out of their vehicle. That morning, they had been chased relentlessly by that female Thunder System zombie. With no other choice, they had managed to shake her off and chosen this location to take shelter for the night.

"The base is constantly producing powerhouses," Henry Hayes couldn’t help but sigh in admiration.

"Yeah... It’s all my fault. Without awakening a superpower, I can’t be of much help to everyone," Shay’s weak voice piped up, carrying a cautious tone of flattery.

Seeing her timid demeanor, Kurt Spencer couldn’t help but think of his own sister back home, who also had no superpower. He comforted her, "Shay, having the courage to come out and collect supplies with us is already commendable. You don’t need to put yourself down like that."

Jesse Payne, however, had different thoughts. "Bro, they’re so incredible at killing zombies. They didn’t get on the overpass; they drove toward the road on the left. There’s an entire logistics transit hub over there!"

Hearing him say this, everyone’s minds clearly started churning. With so many transport trucks in the parking lot opposite them, if they just filled one or two and drove them back to the base, the supplies would be more than enough for everyone to share a hefty portion! Moreover, since that squad was so powerful, they could let them clear out the zombies first. There were plenty of warehouses over there anyway, so going over a bit later tomorrow to scavenge the leftovers would be absolutely perfect!

"Yeah!" There were so many vehicles in that massive parking lot opposite them!

Shay’s eyes inevitably lit up, and she excitedly leaned toward Jasper Payne. Taking a step back, Jasper Payne prevented her from throwing herself at him. Instead, he turned and held Yolanda Kramer’s small hand, comforting his displeased girlfriend.

Then, he addressed the group, "Get a good rest tonight. Tomorrow, we’ll take a car and go over to check it out."

---

The ink-like night completely swallowed the world as Luna Dawson’s group finally arrived at the gates of the logistics park. The headlights were the sole source of illumination in this dead, silent darkness. The beams pierced the heavy night, casting a clear, bright trail on the ground. Beyond that, the surroundings were consumed by an impenetrable pitch-black.

Seeing the metal gates tightly bound by various chains before them, Blake Blue activated his superpower from the driver’s seat. Under the glare of the headlights, the gates warped to the side with a loud CREAK, forcefully squeezing out a gap just wide enough for their off-road vehicle to drive through. Immediately after, the off-road vehicle smoothly entered the park. Wherever it passed, the surrounding zombies dropped dead. A moment later, the metal gates slowly reverted to their original state, looking as though no one had ever touched them. Only a field of zombie corpses remained lying there.

Luna Dawson weighed the Crystal Core in her hand, satisfied as she stroked Little Sweet Potato’s tender leaves. She spoke calmly, "There are two groups nearby. Nineteen people are in the restaurant on the left side of the park, and two are in the building next to it. They’re watching us right now."

"Will they be unwelcoming of us?" Upon hearing there were people, a sudden pang of guilt inexplicably welled up in Rhonda Dawson’s heart.

Nancy Sullivan gave Rhonda Dawson’s hand a reassuring squeeze. "Sister Wendy, we’ve been clearing out zombies the entire way in. They probably just arrived not long ago either. If they can come here, so can we."

Miles Dawson chimed in, "Hmph, if they dare to be unwelcoming, should we..." He accompanied his words with a ruthless glare and a throat-slitting gesture.

Hearing Miles Dawson’s words, Luna Dawson delivered a sharp flick to her brother’s forehead. "Should we what? You’re so young, yet all you know is fighting and killing. They got here first anyway, so we’ll just ignore them."

Miles Dawson pouted his grievances but didn’t dare to rebel. He thought, "My older sister actually showed some mercy, even though she’s the one who fights and kills the most..."

The group parked their vehicle in front of the warehouse closest to the gates, making it convenient for them to go in and out. Seeing this, one of the two people on the roof immediately sprinted toward the restaurant. He was likely going to deliver a report—it turned out they were in the same group.

As everyone stepped out of the vehicle, Luna Dawson stored the car away and distributed some bullets to each person. "Keep your guns slung over your shoulders. The guy on the opposite roof has gone to notify their main group."

Miles Dawson’s inner curious child came online. "Sis, didn’t you just say no fighting and killing? Why are we taking out guns?"

Luna Dawson coughed awkwardly and shot him a glare.

Lynn Shelby stroked the Little Tiger in his arms and chuckled in amusement. "With superior firepower, we hold the absolute truth and get the final say."

Blake Blue quickly unlocked and pulled open the warehouse doors. Seeing the nearly ten-meter-tall warehouse filled with massive shelves packed to the brim with all kinds of supplies ready for outbound shipment, everyone’s eyes lit up brightly!

Luna Dawson walked inside. Boxes of supplies, along with their shelves, vanished from their spots section by section. In just a few breaths, the entire warehouse was emptied out, and Luna Dawson released a two-story villa into the open space.

Kevin Keane stepped forward to help Luna Dawson open the villa door, asking, "How strong is the other side?"

Luna Dawson probed carefully. "In the restaurant group, there’s only one Third Rank, and six Second Order Superpower Users. The rest are either First Order or ordinary humans. Their combat power is average."

Little Sweet Potato spoke up smugly, "Heh, wiping them out would be a piece of cake for me." The little fellow’s tone was brimming with disdain.

Kevin Keane cast his eyes down at Little Sweet Potato, who was standing on his right shoulder with hands on its hips, and then looked at Luna Dawson. He sighed helplessly, "What on earth do you show it all day?"
