The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 143: Let Me Introduce
Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Let Me Introduce
Little Sweet Potato had just gained sentience. When it first arrived at their home, it couldn’t even speak fluently.
Luna Dawson was often busy training Rollo and Little Tiger’s superpowers in the space, so she simply tossed it a tablet. Whenever it got bored, it would open the tablet and watch various downloaded TV shows and movies, mimicking the characters’ speech. It was safe to say that the little guy was entirely self-taught in human language.
Luna Dawson was quite baffled herself. In truth, she had no idea what Little Sweet Potato was watching. She had plenty of tablets anyway and never restricted its screen time.
"I have no idea."
Luna Dawson put on a slacker’s expression of "I don’t know and I don’t care," causing Kevin Keane to shake his head in disbelief.
She pulled out some tables and chairs as she spoke, cheerfully asking what everyone wanted to eat. After all, they had harvested seven or eight hundred crystal cores today.
"I’m in a good mood, so everyone can order what they want," she announced. "Shane Shaw, Nancy Sullivan, this meal is on me. You two just focus on eating with us."
"Hotpot!"
"Extra spicy!"
"Yay!"
Everyone cheered.
Kevin Keane broke into a cold sweat upon hearing this. He had been trying hard to keep up with Luna Dawson’s spice tolerance, but he was still far from reaching her monstrous level. Once, he had eaten double-nuclear spicy ramen with her, and it actually gave him a severe stomachache! Unable to bear the agony, he had to seek Rhonda Dawson for healing just to relieve the pain.
"Let’s do a split pot..." Kevin Keane suggested, a hint of pleading in his voice.
Luna Dawson looked at him in amusement, knowing he still couldn’t handle too much spice.
"Sure."
Without further ado, Luna began pulling out ingredients. The large, round dining table was soon completely covered with fruit juice, seafood, meat rolls, beef tripe, meatballs, and platters of vegetables and mushrooms.
As usual, she set up a small, dog-specific table for Rollo and Tina, letting them enjoy their own assorted meat platters and goat’s milk. The two little ones could go on their own little date off to the side.
The group had just found a place to sit down in the warehouse and finally catch their breath. They still wore expressions of delight at having found a place to rest when footsteps echoed from the entrance. A large group of people came marching over.
Upon seeing the empty warehouse, the group of over ten people looked shocked. They exchanged glances, silently wondering, "There are no goods in this first warehouse, but there’s actually a light-steel villa stored here?!"
If they had known, they wouldn’t have gone to the cafeteria to squeeze onto cold benches!
Luna Dawson glanced toward the entrance through the living room window and immediately noticed something unusual. "Oh, they’re wearing two different types of uniforms. Looks like two teams merged together?"
"Excuse me, sorry to intrude."
The leader was a man dressed in a white snow combat suit. He stood at the warehouse entrance, not rushing in. Raising his hand, he channeled his superpower, conjuring a small ice blade out of thin air. He used it to lightly tap the rolling shutter door above his head, taking the initiative to greet them.
His expression was peaceful and natural, lacking any of the typical tension seen in the apocalypse.
The man wore gold-rimmed glasses, with tiny specks of snow clinging to the edges of the lenses. His features were clean and refined, making him look like an easygoing, good-natured person. He had a rather slender build but was bundled up in a thick, light gray scarf with fluffy trim at the edges. He wore matching thin fleece gloves, leaving his fingertips exposed to easily channel his superpower. Despite being bundled in warm winter clothes, he still stood ramrod straight, exuding an aura of righteousness.
Hearing the commotion, the people at the table left the villa and walked toward the warehouse entrance.
The group was dressed in either professional combat gear or cold-weather suits. Their tactical vests were fully stocked with ammunition, and everyone carried a silenced submachine gun. Looking across the entire base, there were hardly any squads that could dress so sharply and be so fully equipped.
Since they had been about to eat, none of them were wearing their face masks. Watching the succession of handsome men and beautiful women filing out of the villa, the dozen or so people behind Dylan DuPont simultaneously gasped. They stared intently at the group, remaining completely motionless.
Shane Shaw paused in surprise when he got a clear look at the man’s face. He was the first to speak up, "Deputy Commander Ford? You came to the Containment Zone too?"
This man was none other than Dylan DuPont, the Deputy Commander of the base’s official Superpower User Special Operations Department.
He usually worked alongside General Commander Luke Locke, specializing in recruiting outstanding superpower users from among the survivors to join the official combat teams for unified coordination and management. In fact, Shane Shaw had originally joined the official team because Dylan DuPont had personally shown up at his door to invite him.
Dylan DuPont also seemed slightly surprised, though he maintained his mild smile. "Shane Shaw, so the reason you took three days off was to come out and collect supplies on your own."
Hearing this, Shane couldn’t help but scratch his head. Feeling a bit awkward, his voice dropped a few decibels. "Well, there’s no rule saying official team members can’t enter the Containment Zone."
"I’m not here to interrogate you, so there’s no need to be nervous," Dylan replied with a chuckle. "And who might these people be? Care to introduce us?"
After all, his purpose in coming here was also to gauge the strength of other superpower users. If he could persuade a few to join the team and serve the base, it would be a huge win.
Shane was taken aback and instinctively looked toward Luna Dawson. Only then did he realize he hadn’t made any introductions. He quickly spoke up, "This is Dylan DuPont, the Deputy Commander of our Kensington Base’s Superpower User Special Operations Department. He has a Third Rank Ice Ability."
"Hello," Dylan greeted at the perfect moment, a smile on his face.
Catching Shane’s gaze, Luna Dawson nodded in acknowledgment. There was nothing to hide. If worse came to worst and they didn’t get along, they could just fight.
"Luna Dawson. We’re the Sunset Squad. I have Third Rank Space and Water Abilities."
The moment Luna finished speaking, the whispering crowd behind Dylan instantly fell silent. Even Dylan, who always maintained excellent control over his expressions, stood there with his mouth wide open.
He cursed inwardly, "That Francis Grant! Even though he went to invite her personally, he couldn’t recruit her for me. She’s already a dual-element Third Rank!"
Ranking up wasn’t simply a matter of absorbing a massive number of crystal cores whenever one pleased. It was determined by the accumulation of time and one’s innate talent. It couldn’t be rushed in the slightest.
He reflected on his worries along the way here. He had been concerned that some small, private team had wandered in and might attract a small zombie horde. He had even worried that these strangers might drag his team down. Thinking back on it now, he realized he had been far too overconfident. He definitely needed to change that mindset in the future!
Watching the group’s reactions, Luna offered a faint smile. This was exactly the effect she wanted. She didn’t want random nobodies trying to mess with her. After all, her physical and mental well-being were extremely important.
Moreover, her Spiritual Spring Space would always be her ultimate trump card. If push came to shove, all she needed to do was give a single look, and Little Sweet Potato, Rollo, and Little Tiger could instantly make everyone here die silently—the kind of death where even their corpses wouldn’t be found. Even if she turned the entire base upside down, her family could survive anywhere they went.
Luna turned to look at her group and motioned for them to introduce themselves from left to right.
"Kevin Keane. First Rank Flight ability, Third Rank Thunder System."
As soon as Kevin’s words faded, another wave of gasps rippled through the opposing crowd.
A squad with two dual-element superpower users! You could search the entire Kensington Base and never find a second team like them!
"Evan Olson. Third Rank Wind element."
"Miles Dawson. Third Rank Fire element."
"Blake Blue. Third Rank Gold Element."
"Lynn Shelby. Third Rank Ice Ability."
Lynn Shelby replied lazily, his gaze sweeping impatiently over the opposing group. What a pain. They were interrupting his meal.
"Rhonda Dawson. Third Rank Healing ability," Rhonda answered with a gentle smile, looking incredibly sweet and graceful.
"Aaron Palmer. Also a Third Rank Fire element."
...
The group opposite them was growing numb with shock. Even their General Commander, Luke Locke, had only just reached Third Rank with his dual elements. In their entire Special Operations Team, there were no more than twenty Third Rank users. Yet, this entire squad was entirely made up of Third Rank users!
This team’s strength was simply freakish...
