The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 144: Oddball
Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Oddball
Dylan DuPont froze for half a second before immediately composed his expression. His tone was gentle but crisp. "I brought thirteen official superpower users out for field training and to gather supplies along the way. Seth Scott, Second Order Thunder System; Sebastian Spencer, Second Order Spiritual System; Joel Chandler and Evelyn Ford, Second Order Earth Element. The rest are First Order. It’s a pleasure to meet everyone."
The team members behind him nodded in greeting to Luna Dawson’s group. The hearts of the few First Order members shattered on the spot.
They understood now. The apocalypse truly belonged to the strong; if they hadn’t reached the Second Order, they didn’t even deserve to have their names mentioned.
Dylan DuPont turned his head to look at the man beside him. The man had dark, gleaming skin, and his eyes were practically glued to Luna Dawson. Grinning widely, he said, "Hello, beautiful! I’m the captain of the Ark Squad, Lance Miller, Second Order flight superpower! My members are mostly First Order. This is our vice-captain, Logan Wright, Second Order strength enhancement."
Luna Dawson forced a smile and gave a polite wave. "Hello, everyone."
In her mind, she was roaring, "What the hell! Can we end this crappy socializing already? I’m starving to death. All I can think about is eating!"
Standing beside Lance Miller was a woman. Being able to maintain some level of beauty in the apocalypse was considered rare, but ever since she saw Luna Dawson and the other two girls, her face had been drawn long. She spoke in a mocking tone, "We got to this place first, so everything inside belongs to us. You can come in, but if you want to take things? No way!"
Lance Miller was overjoyed inwardly, feeling that his girlfriend’s words spoke right to his heart, but on the surface, he pretended to scold her in a low voice, "Yara, stop making a scene! This is Miss Dawson, one of our base’s four dual-element superpower users—oh, wait, it’s five now. Don’t be rude to her!"
After saying that, he turned to look at Kevin Keane, his face crinkling into a disgustingly sycophantic smile.
Luna Dawson rolled her eyes, too lazy to waste words on him. She turned to Dylan DuPont. "Deputy Commander Ford, if I remember the base’s announcement correctly, the supplies from the Eighth District to the Ninth District are up for grabs for all superpower users based on their abilities. Once you step foot in here, the base’s rules don’t apply. To put it simply: it’s not first come, first served; it’s survival of the fittest."
She muttered to herself, "Five dual-element users? Mine is fake, and Kevin Keane just awakened his. Who are the others?"
Dylan DuPont’s eyes lit up, his gaze toward Luna Dawson full of admiration. He thought that this kind of ruthlessness was exactly what the official Special Operations Department needed! If Luke Locke were here, he would definitely slap his thigh in approval!
But in front of so many team members, he couldn’t show blatant favoritism. He pushed up his glasses to smooth things over. "The rules are indeed like that, Miss Dawson. If you just beat them into submission, you can take whatever supplies you want. But since I’m here, if the Commander-in-Chief finds out I let everyone fight among themselves, I’ll probably be punished. Please bear with me."
Far away in the First District, Luke Locke sneezed inexplicably, utterly bewildered. "Isn’t my principle ’if you can fight, don’t talk crap’ and ’whoever is stronger is the truth’?" he thought. "That kid is spreading nonsense over there!"
Dylan DuPont scanned the crowd and added, "How about this? Within this logistics park, you can either find vehicles to load the goods or use your spatial superpowers. How much you can take depends entirely on your own abilities. How does that sound?"
Lance Miller’s mental abacus was clicking rapidly. The trucks outside had all been overturned by the mutant trees. Only their squad had found a drivable large truck. If they filled it up and took it back to unpack slowly, it would last them a long time. Dylan DuPont’s team only had two intact trucks, and even if Luna Dawson was a Third Rank spatial superpower user, she would have at most one or two hundred square meters of space. She wouldn’t be able to carry much.
Moreover, this logistics park was huge. He could just drive a few more trucks here next time. Anyway, they only had two Second Order users. If they hauled too much, they might not be able to defend it against a zombie horde. Furthermore, this dual-element little beauty, Luna Dawson, was stunning. Giving Dylan DuPont face would also leave a good impression on her. If he found an opportunity to drug her later, he might even get to taste her sweetness.
His greed was almost overflowing from his eyes. He immediately agreed, "Alright! For Deputy Commander Ford’s sake, I definitely agree!"
Luna Dawson scoffed, answering carelessly, "Whatever. You guys can pick first tomorrow."
Yara Sawyer grew anxious, her unwillingness written all over her face. "Brother Ron! Isn’t this just dismissing us like beggars?!"
Lance Miller glanced at her, secretly disgusted. "Compared to Luna Dawson and her friends, why does Yara Sawyer suddenly look so plain?" he thought. However, he coaxed her verbally, "Yara, stop fussing. The Deputy Commander has already spoken. Besides, there are so many supplies here that we can’t possibly move them all. We’ll have plenty of opportunities in the future. We’re all from the same base, so peace is paramount."
After saying that, he threw a wink at Luna Dawson, attempting to close the distance between them.
Luna Dawson was utterly speechless. She had originally been watching them play the loving couple with the mindset of a spectator enjoying the drama. But that wink disgusted her so much she nearly tripped over, hurriedly grabbing onto Kevin Keane beside her to steady herself.
She was having a mental breakdown. "Damn it! Is this lump of coal crazy?!" she thought.
Kevin Keane looked speechlessly at the absurd man in front of him. He silently stepped in front of Luna Dawson, blocking that eye-burning gaze, and asked in a low voice, "Little boss, do you want me to take care of him?"
Miles Dawson’s face darkened as he clenched his fists. "Sister, I can’t stand it anymore. This guy is too punchable!"
Aaron Palmer exclaimed in shock, "Holy crap! This dark-skinned toad is too outrageous. I’m going blind!"
Lynn Shelby rolled her eyes so hard they almost got stuck in the back of her head. "If Deputy Commander Ford wasn’t here, I’d send him straight to the afterlife."
The others either rubbed their foreheads with a sigh or looked as if they had lost the will to live. Nancy Sullivan frowned and complained, "Just talk normally. What’s with the visual assault? So disgusting!"
Dylan DuPont had been seriously watching the two groups negotiate, but Lance Miller’s action made his lips twitch uncontrollably. This guy really had zero situational awareness.
Evan Olson spoke up with strained patience, "Alright, since we have a deal, let’s cut the crap. We’re going to eat. If we keep dawdling, someone is going to faint from hunger."
Dylan DuPont quickly seized the out. "Alright, no more nonsense. Let’s all disperse and rest. We’ll start loading the trucks in order at seven tomorrow morning."
Everyone exchanged hypocritical farewells. Luna Dawson still couldn’t hold back and called out to Dylan DuPont, "Deputy Commander, who are the dual-element superpower users at the base?"
Dylan DuPont turned around with a smile and answered truthfully, "The Young Family’s youngest son, Ian Young, Third Rank Healing and Spiritual System; the Quinn Family’s youngest daughter, Skylar Quinn, Second Order Peak Spatial and Wood Element; and our Commander-in-Chief, Luke Locke, Third Rank Gold Element and Speed."
Luna Dawson nodded in understanding, thanked him, and turned away.
But unexpectedly, the people Dylan DuPont brought along and Lance Miller’s two squads didn’t go back to rest at all. They directly pried open two warehouses near the cafeteria and spent the night rummaging through packages. They specifically picked out things that looked like food and daily necessities, piling them to one side, completely ignoring the bulky items. Their panicked manner made it look like they were terrified someone would steal their treasures.
Luna Dawson’s group hurried to the dining table. Looking at the time, it was already past eight o’clock, and everyone’s stomachs were growling from hunger.
Miles Dawson slapped the table and complained, "Damn! Are those two idiots? That wink earlier almost made me throw up yesterday’s dinner!"
Aaron Palmer clicked his tongue in amazement. "What an eye-opener. I’ve never seen such a confident dark-skinned toad in my life. The audacity is off the charts."
Blake Blue and Shane Shaw were laughing so hard their shoulders were shaking, utterly unable to stop.
Lynn Shelby gritted her teeth. "If it weren’t for the base people’s presence, I’d have given him a couple of punches no matter what. That was too disgusting."
Rhonda Dawson smoothed things over with a smile. "Don’t be mad. Having some weirdos in the world makes it less boring. It’s better than getting numb from looking at zombies all day."
Blake Blue suddenly turned his head and asked her, "Do you like this type?"
Rhonda Dawson’s face turned red, and she hurriedly waved her hands. "No way! I was just saying it’s fun to watch. Who would like a weirdo like that!"
Nancy Sullivan quickly nodded in agreement. "I think Sister Wendy is right. It’s better than facing zombies every day!"
Luna Dawson had no mood to chat with them. She directly took out a giant split hot pot, placed it in the center of the table, and poured in the broth base. "Eating is what matters! It’s freezing outside, so we need to eat something hot."
