Chapter 56: Chapter 56: My Mother And Her Driver Are Trending Online...

Maya did not move.

She was still standing at the door, her eyes moving from Simon’s face to her mother’s hand.

For a second, she remembered her father standing in that same spot, laughing, calling her mother’s name. Now another man was standing there.

Flora quickly pulled her hand back, trying to act normal, but her voice came out too fast.

"Maya, when did you come in? How is your friend Chloe?"

Maya did not answer. She folded her arms and took one step forward.

"Mum, what exactly is going on here?"

Flora forced a small smile, trying to sound calm.

"Maya, it’s nothing. Simon was just... greeting me. That’s all. You are thinking too much."

Simon stepped forward slightly, his voice calm but firm.

"Miss Maya, it was my fault. Don’t blame your mother. She did nothing wrong."

Maya became furious. She walked straight to Simon and pushed him hard on the chest.

Simon staggered back, surprised. Flora’s eyes widened.

"Maya! What are you doing?" Flora asked sharply.

Maya ignored her mother and glared at Simon.

"Simon, it seems you have forgotten your place in this house. Aren’t you supposed to be in the staff wing instead of having private conversations with my mother?"

"I’m sorry. We were just talking," Simon explained.

"Oh, really?" Maya scoffed. "You were talking about how you confessed your love for her in front of her staff today, weren’t you?"

Simon went silent.

"Maya, that’s enough," Flora interrupted.

But Maya wasn’t ready to stop.

"What? Am I lying? Everyone saw what happened today. You’ve become so comfortable that you think you can openly express your feelings for my mother."

Flora’s expression hardened.

"Maya, I said that’s enough! Go to your room. Simon, return to the staff wing."

Simon glanced at Flora and nodded.

He turned towards the door.

But Maya wasn’t finished.

"Stay away from my mother, loverboy!" she shouted after him. "She’s supposed to marry my father’s brother, not entertain feelings from her driver!"

Simon stopped briefly, but didn’t respond. He walked out.

Maya turned to her mother immediately.

"Mum, what is wrong with you?"

Flora said nothing.

"Are you not supposed to be mourning Dad? You’ve changed so much. This isn’t the woman I used to know. You know this man doesn’t love you. He’s only trying to find his way into your heart, and you’re allowing him!"

Flora took a deep breath.

"Maya, you are still a child. There are many things you don’t understand yet."

"Then explain them to me!" Maya demanded.

"Simon might be my driver, but that doesn’t mean he cannot be my friend. Outside this house, we can talk like normal human beings. Not every driver is disloyal, Maya. I know how to handle the people around me, and I don’t need you to decide who I should speak to."

"But Mum—"

"I said this matter ends here!" Flora cut in. "Now, go back to your room."

Maya folded her arms, staring in disbelief.

"And what if I don’t go? What will you do? Hit me? Or send me out of this house?"

Flora turned to Maya, her expression firm.

"Maya, you are not attacking Simon because you are worried about me. You are attacking him because you are jealous."

Maya’s eyes widened.

"Excuse me, Mum?"

"You heard me," Flora continued. "If this was about me, you would have come to talk to me calmly. Instead, you pushed him, and embarrassed him. That is not protection, Maya. That is jealousy."

Maya stared at her mother, unable to believe what she was hearing.

Flora’s voice stayed steady, not loud.

"You are hurting, and I can see it. But you don’t get to take that pain out on Simon. He did not force himself on me. Neither did he disrespect you."

She had expected her mother to defend her, even to question Simon. She never imagined her mother would see straight through her.

Her legs became weak, unable to move. Her eyes filled with tears she was trying so hard to hold back.

"Mum, I can’t believe you just said that to me," she finally whispered.

Flora looked at her, still firm, but softer now.

"And I can’t believe you behaved this way. You are my daughter, Maya. You should know better than to push a man and insult him in my own living room."

Maya looked away, struggling to control her emotions.

"Fine. So now I’m the problem?"

"I didn’t say that. But what you did tonight was wrong, and I won’t pretend otherwise."

Maya’s chest tightened, and a single tear finally slipped down her cheek.

Flora turned away, because if she looked at Maya’s tears, she would break down too. She picked up her phone and started checking the screen.

Maya let out an irritated breath.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

"Come in," Flora said.

Gabrielle stepped inside.

"Good evening, Ma."

"Good evening," Flora replied.

Gabrielle turned to Maya with a small smile.

"Good evening, Miss Maya."

Maya slowly turned her head towards her.

"And you? Are you still here?"

Gabrielle’s smile disappeared. She stood awkwardly near the doorway.

"Miss Maya, I—"

Flora finally put down her phone and interrupted.

"Maya, what is your problem now?"

"I decide who stays and who leaves this house, Maya. Gabrielle is not your problem." Flora said firmly.

Maya stared at her mother in disbelief, her chest rising and falling fast.

"Mum, you are so unbelievable!" she exclaimed, her voice shaking with anger.

She turned sharply and stormed towards the staircase, her footsteps heavy with frustration.

Just as she approached, Gabrielle stepped forward to give her space to pass.

Maya suddenly stopped and glared at her, her eyes burning.

"Can you get out of my way?!" she shouted.

Gabrielle flinched and immediately stepped aside, her hands trembling.

"I’m sorry, Miss Maya," she whispered.

Maya rolled her eyes and brushed past her without another word.

Flora watched her daughter disappear up the staircase.

For a second, Flora was lost in thought.

Am I betraying my husband who left me with painful secrets by smiling at another man? Or am I betraying myself by staying sad forever? I am not in love with Simon. I am in love with not feeling alone anymore.

She turned slowly to Gabrielle, her voice softer now.

"Gabrielle, is there something you need?"

Gabrielle nodded slightly, still shaken.

"Yes, Madam. Grace said I should tell you that dinner is ready."

"Alright. Thank you. Flora replied, though her eyes were still fixed on the empty staircase.

Maya walked into her bedroom, looking upset. Zoe was already there, preparing a warm bath for her.

"Good evening, Miss Maya," Zoe greeted politely.

Maya ignored her completely, she brought out her phone, and searched for Andrew’s contact. Without wasting any time, she placed a call.

"Hello, Uncle Andrew. Good evening," Maya said as soon as he answered, her voice trembling.

"Good evening, Maya. What’s wrong? Why do you sound like you’re crying?" Andrew asked.

Maya sniffed and wiped her tears, but more kept falling.

"Uncle Andrew, when will your marriage to my mother be finalized? It’s obvious she is developing feelings for her driver."

Andrew paused briefly.

"Really? What happened?" he asked, sounding surprised.

"Her driver kissed her hand passionately!" Maya exclaimed, her voice breaking. "Right in front of me!"

Andrew raised an eyebrow on the other end of the call.

"He kissed your mother? What did she do afterward?" he asked curiously.

"That’s the annoying part. She did absolutely nothing!" Maya replied angrily, her hands shaking. "She didn’t even push him away. She just stood there and allowed everything to happen. I was standing there like a fool!"

Andrew went silent for a moment.

On his own side, his fist clenched hard on the table. His eyes turned dark. But he forced his voice to stay calm.

"Okay, Maya. Just calm down. Don’t let this push you into another argument with your mother. You know how she can be. I don’t want her sending you to Manchester because of another disagreement."

Maya sighed, wiping her face.

"I know, Uncle Andrew. I’m just tired of everything happening in this house. I can’t watch this anymore."

"I understand. Just try to stay out of trouble, alright? Everything will work out."

"Okay, Uncle Andrew. Good night."

"Good night, Maya."

The call ended.

Maya slowly lowered her phone, staring at the screen with a troubled expression.

Zoe glanced at her through the mirror but wisely decided not to ask any questions.

On the other end, Andrew did not put his phone down. He stared at the wall, his calm mask gone.

"Simon..." he muttered, his voice cold. "You have dared to touch what is mine."

He stood up and reached for his laptop.

Maya felt a little relieved after ending the call with Andrew. She sat on the edge of her bed, trying to calm her racing thoughts. But her mind kept returning to what she had witnessed between her mother and Simon.

She picked up her phone to distract herself and opened social media.

She scrolled slowly. Funny videos. Celebrities. Gossip.

Then a post from Nest Blog stopped her.

TOP BILLIONAIRE’S TRENDING VIDEO!

Maya frowned and tapped on it. .

She was about to scroll past it when something caught her eye.

The gate. The flowers. The driveway.

Her heart started beating fast.

"Wait a minute..." she whispered.

She zoomed in.

Her eyes widened. It was their home. Their own mansion.

Then the camera moved.

A woman in a beautiful dress appeared. A man in a driver’s uniform stood close to her.

Maya’s jaw dropped.

"Oh my God!" she screamed, sitting upright.

It was Flora. And Simon.

Maya’s hands started shaking violently. Her phone almost fell.

"What the hell is this?!" she muttered, replaying the video again and again.
