Chapter 100: Chapter 101 : That Day

Wait... what the hell is this? Mark thought, slowly waking up.

He could barely breathe — for a moment he genuinely wondered if he was drowning. Something soft was pressed against his face, and a pair of arms had him trapped tightly in place.

He opened his eyes and immediately understood.

Satomi was still completely asleep, hugging his face to her chest. At some point in the night she’d rolled closer and wrapped herself around him without even realizing it.

Mark stared at the situation for a few seconds.

Am I in heaven?

Honestly, not a bad way to wake up.

Then Satomi shifted in her sleep and tightened her grip.

Fuck. Never mind. I’m actually going to die.

He tried to pull free. She hugged tighter.

If she doesn’t let go soon, I’m suffocating before I even get out of bed.

He pushed against her arm again, finally carving out enough space to suck in a breath. He held still a moment. Okay. Breathe first. Deal with her later.

He carefully lifted her arm away and tried to slide out of bed without waking her.

Her arm moved after him instantly.

Mark froze. You’ve got to be kidding me.

Her hand searched the mattress until it found him again and wrapped around his waist.

He looked down at her sleeping face. She really won’t let go.

He sat there a moment, weighing his options. Forcing her awake seemed like more trouble than it was worth. So he sank back onto the edge of the bed. Fine. I’ll wait her out.

Then it hit him.

Wait — Satomi’s drunk, but she’s still the strongest sorcerer. Her instincts don’t just switch off because she’s asleep.

He studied her face. Don’t tell me she’s actually awake and just messing with me.

"Hey, Satomi. You’re awake, aren’t you?"

She didn’t move. Didn’t make a sound.

Mark watched her for a moment. Nothing.

But it didn’t fool him — his future vision ran through several possible outcomes, and in every one, Satomi was very much aware of what was happening.

You want to play, huh? Fine. Let’s make it fair.

He got up quietly and walked toward the door. The second his footsteps faded down the hallway, Satomi cracked one eye open.

"Got you." She shut it again and slipped straight back into pretending to sleep the moment she heard him coming back.

Mark stepped into the room. Satomi kept her breathing steady.

He stood beside the bed for a few seconds. Then he lifted a bucket.

Whoosh!

A full bucket of water came crashing down toward her face.

Her eyes snapped open. "Seriously?!"

Infinity flared instantly — the water stopped inches above her, suspended in midair.

Mark stood there, thoroughly pleased with himself. "I knew it."

Satomi stared at the frozen water, then slowly turned to glare at him. "You bastard."

He grinned. "You were awake."

"I was sleeping."

"You opened your eyes before the water even got close."

"I have good instincts."

"Sure."

She dropped Infinity, letting the water splash harmlessly to the floor, and wiped her wet hair back with a glare. "You know, most people would wake their girlfriend up with a morning kiss. Do you have no heart, or do you just enjoy torturing me?"

Mark looked at her like she’d said something insane.

Poor?

That word and Satomi didn’t belong in the same sentence. There was nothing pitiable about this woman — she was the one who spent every day messing with him, teasing him, throwing him into situations where he had no idea what she was actually thinking.

What the hell?

Ever since they’d met, Satomi had been playing games with him. Sometimes it was clearly a joke. Other times she got close enough that he couldn’t tell if the joke was still a joke.

He genuinely couldn’t read her.

Does she have some plan for me? Does she still not trust me? Or does she just like watching me try to figure her out?

He’d tried not to dwell on it, but last night made that impossible. After that kiss, he couldn’t keep pretending her behavior meant nothing.

He looked at her, honestly confused. "Can you stop playing around and be serious for once? What’s your actual intention with me?" He wasn’t asking to tease her back — he wanted a real answer. "Just tell me straight this time."

I’ve never been this confused in my life.

"What’s there to be confused about? You’ve got a cute woman who wants to hang around you all the time. Isn’t that nice?" Satomi said, rocking slightly where she knelt on the bed.

"If it were that simple, this would be a lot easier," Mark said. "Tell me the truth."

"That... that..." Satomi looked away.

She couldn’t exactly admit that she just felt comfortable around him.

In the entire jujutsu world, everyone treated her as the strongest sorcerer first and a person a distant second. Nobody treated her like a woman. She’d gotten used to the one man who just treated her like a person.

"Well? Don’t leave it at ’that... that.’ What is it?"

Satomi puffed out her cheeks. "You’re an idiot," she muttered, then turned and walked out.

Mark stared after her. "What the fuck is this? Is this some kind of rom-com?"

He looked at the door, completely lost. There is definitely something wrong with her.

Satomi was nothing like the male Gojo he’d expected — the confidence and arrogance were there, sure, but everything else about how she acted around him was completely different.

Is it because she’s a woman?

He frowned.

Or is it just that time of the month?
