Skylar Crowe simply hadn’t expected Vera Xavier to be so unorthodox, blurting the matter out right in front of the young man at the registration desk! This was far beyond what she had anticipated.

She didn’t have a mind as quick as Susan Caldwell’s, and for a moment, she was at a loss for what to do.

The rest area was currently filled with students from all the other universities. They had all heard Skylar Crowe’s words, so denial was impossible.

So Skylar Crowe cleared her throat and said, "I know her, so I know she’d never even handled a weapon before military training. There’s no way she could get such a good score after such a short amount of practice. On top of that, she has a history of misconduct. There were rumors about her seducing people even when she was very young, and she’s also entangled with Veridia University’s chief instructor, so..."

"That’s enough!" the young man snapped. "You’re fabricating lies and spouting baseless nonsense! I don’t care what your motives are, but this incident must be handled with the utmost seriousness."

After he finished speaking, he strode out. Skylar Crowe’s heart began to pound. ’These are all just rumors,’ she thought, ’and I’m just the one spreading them. If this gets seriously investigated, I’ll be the one who pays the price.’

Susan Caldwell had originally told her to wait until the later rounds to start spreading these rumors. However, the moment she saw Vera Xavier’s shooting score, she couldn’t contain herself and erupted. No matter how foolish she was, even she knew that shooting was the one event where cheating was nearly impossible.

Vera Xavier looked at Skylar Crowe. "I don’t know where you’re getting your information, but I fully intend to see this matter through to the end."

"Bring it on!" Skylar Crowe shot back, her chin jutting out. "You’re nothing but a hick from the countryside. What right do you have to act so smug in front of me!"

A small smirk played on Vera Xavier’s lips. "The only thing to be afraid of is a self-proclaimed ’sophisticated city-dweller’ like you being put in her place by a ’hick.’ Then you’ll be the one with no face left to show."

With that, she sat down to await the decision from the National Defense University instructors.

Skylar Crowe’s face was a mask of contempt. She cursed loudly, "You morally bankrupt, ill-bred bumpkin!"

The moment the words left her mouth, she realized something was wrong. Dozens of people in the room were staring at her, a quiet fury in their eyes. She instantly understood that many of these students were likely from rural areas; her insult had just implicated a large portion of the room.

Finding the situation tiresome, she sat back down as well. Immediately, the two male students from her own university who had accompanied her stood up, moved to the side, and pointedly refused to sit with her.

A look of disdain flashed in Skylar Crowe’s eyes. ’As if I’d want to sit with them anyway!’ she thought.

Five minutes later, the chief instructors from the relevant universities, including the one from Skylar Crowe’s school, walked in with Sheldon Caldwell. Sheldon entered and immediately announced, "I hear someone suspects a Veridia University student of seducing her way into cheating. Well, come on, step right up. Let’s have a nice little chat about it!"

Skylar Crowe bit her lip when she saw him, but stood up anyway. "Vera Xavier has deplorable character! She cheated back in high school. Given her abilities, it’s impossible for her to have achieved such a good score. She must have cheated!"

Of course, Sheldon Caldwell recognized Skylar Crowe. He had long ago pegged this brainless girl, who did nothing but trail after Susan Caldwell, as an idiot. He just hadn’t expected her to be the one to act as the sacrificial pawn today.
