The Devil’s Reign:The first law of void

Chapter 42:For a Second He Wasn’t Human

  • Next Chapter

The academy slept.

But the forest beyond it—

Didn’t.

Wind moved wrong.

Shadows stretched too far.

Something hunted in the dark.

Elira stood at the edge of the treeline.

Alone.

Watching.

“…You followed it too.”

A voice behind her.

Calm.

Familiar.

She didn’t turn.

“Lucifer.”

He stepped beside her.

Hands in his pockets.

Like always.

“…You’re not supposed to be here,” she said.

He shrugged.

“…Neither are you.”

The Disturbance

A scream echoed deep in the forest.

Short.

Cut off.

Elira’s eyes sharpened.

“…That’s a student.”

Lucifer didn’t move immediately.

“…Probably.”

She stepped forward—

But he grabbed her wrist.

“Wait.”

She turned sharply.

“We don’t have time—”

“You do if you don’t want to die.”

Silence.

Then—

The ground shifted.

The Threat Appears

A creature crawled out of the shadows.

Wrong.

Too many limbs.

Too many joints.

Eyes that didn’t align.

Not a monster from this world.

Something else.

Elira’s breath caught slightly.

“…What is that?”

Lucifer’s gaze hardened.

“…A mistake.”

The Fight Begins

The creature moved—

Instantly.

Elira reacted.

Fast.

Precise.

Elegant.

Her blade cut clean—

Nothing.

It phased.

Twisted.

Reappeared behind her.

Too fast.

She turned—

Too late—

The Slip Happens

The creature lunged—

And Lucifer moved.

Not fast.

Instant.

Between one heartbeat—

and the next—

He was there.

His hand—

Through the creature’s chest.

Not cutting.

Not striking.

Gripping.

Reality… bent.

The creature froze.

Screamed without sound.

And for a second—

Everything went silent.

What Elira Sees

His eyes—

Not human.

Not even glowing.

Endless.

Like looking into something that had no bottom.

No emotion.

No limit.

Cold.

Ancient.

Hungry.

The air around him warped.

Not mana.

Something else.

Something that didn’t belong.

The End

The creature—

Collapsed.

Not cut.

Not destroyed.

Erased.

Gone.

Like it never existed.

Silence returned.

Aftermath

Lucifer stood still for a moment.

Then—

Exhaled.

And just like that—

Everything went back to normal.

His eyes.

His presence.

His aura.

Human again.

Elira’s Reaction

She didn’t move.

Didn’t speak.

Didn’t breathe properly.

“…What…”

Lucifer glanced at her.

“…You’re welcome.”

The Confrontation (Now Different)

Elira stepped back slightly.

Just a fraction.

“…That wasn’t magic.”

Lucifer shrugged.

“…Define magic.”

“No.”

Her voice steadied.

“That wasn’t anything I recognize.”

The Truth Almost Comes Out

Lucifer looked at her.

Really looked this time.

And for a moment—

He considered it.

Telling her.

Showing her.

Breaking everything.

But Then—Control Returns

He smiled.

“…You’re overthinking it.”

Elira’s eyes didn’t leave his.

“…No.”

A pause.

“I’m finally seeing it.”

Silence.

Lucifer’s smile didn’t fade.

But something behind it—

Shifted.

Just slightly.

“…Then be careful,” he said softly.

“Some things…”

A step closer.

“…aren’t meant to be understood.”

End Scene

Elira stood alone as he walked away.

The forest quiet again.

But her thoughts—

Weren’t.

“…That wasn’t power.”

A pause.

“…That was something else.”

Final Line

“…What are you?”
