The dragon's harem
Chapter 2295: Arad’s Hibernation VII
As Alcott flapped his vampire wings once, he flew away at blinding speed, making his trip to the next location end in less than a few minutes. When he landed, he could clearly sense that the magic here was unlike anything else he had sensed before. It was dense, spread all over the place, and most importantly, at the same wavelength required for teleportation magic.
He lifted the rods, waved them around, and got a strong signal. This is one of the most likely spots that the Cursed Metal drakaina would show up in, and it was a very bad one at that.
This mountain range was right at the junction of several major rivers and regions, close to many large cities, and generally hard to fight in without greatly damaging the forest and mountains, which could lead to monsters stampeding out in waves.
He pulled another scroll and sent a message straight to Jack. "This location is quite dense in magic. Mark it. We should keep a close eye on it more than the rest; she could easily spawn here and cause a lot of deaths. If she does, we can’t avoid casualties. Warn the neighboring cities and have them stockpile clean water and resources."
As Jack agreed as before, Alcott closed the conversation and was ready to leave... only for him to stop. Something was off... all the hair on his back stood up, his eyes opened wide, and his pupils dilated.
^Alcott?^ Ginger, who was linked to his blood directly, sensed the disturbance in his emotions and immediately called. ^Did something happen?^
"The wind is howling." He mumbled, looking around at everything. The ground, the trees, the clouds, the sun, the air, the blue sky, even down at himself. Something wasn’t right.
The shadows felt off, the light didn’t appear natural, and it was as if the scenery itself shifted. It was hard to put into words for Alcott. Like a game engine failing to render light or textures for a single frame every so often.
Even pushing all of his vampiric and lycanthrope senses to their limit, Alcott could barely perceive the change, unable to even confirm if he was just imagining things. But his experience told him otherwise; if he felt something was off, it meant something was off.
He looked back, pulled his sword out, and focused even harder. "Ginger, I’m feeling something here. But I’m not sure what it is."
^What do you mean by that? If there is anything wrong, I’ll send everyone your way right now.^ As she growled, he replied in a calm face.
"Don’t... at least not yet, until I confirm a threat. But get them ready." He took a deep breath. "Been ages since I felt like this... sweating and tingling all over my body."
At that moment, a titanic eye with a pupil that was ninety meters wide appeared in front of him as the titanic creature opened its eyelids, and when it turned off its camouflage, Alcott could clearly see the titanic draconic body extending all the way to the horizon.
It was titanic, yellow in color, and far too bulky for a regular dragon. A second later, a deep voice rumbled, quietly yet deeply resonating inside Alcott’s chest. This thing wasn’t talking with its voice, but through magic.
"Human... Vampire... Werewolf... scent of the black one. You are Alcott Demorian, the one they called the Dragon Slayer." The titanic dragon head moved. "I came here to die, but not at your hands. You... cannot kill me."
Alcott took a step back, then jumped and flew to the next mountain just so he could get a better look at the Drakaina’s massive head. And it was even bigger than he expected, but something else drew his attention. She was using size magic to make herself smaller.
"You’re the Cursed Metal Drakaina?" He asked, and her head moved. "I am called Godvia, the Uranium Singularity. I believe yes, I am what you call a Cursed Metal Drakaina."
"If you’re willing to talk, then there is no need for us to fight here, right?" Alcott sheathed his sword, and she nodded in a deep voice. "Indeed."
He looked at her once again, and she was indeed to massive too cut down. Getting rid of her would require someone of Eris’s or Gamond’s caliber for sure, if not more.
"You said that you came here to die, and that I cannot kill you. What do you mean by that?" As Alcott asked, the drakaina’s eyes shifted slightly, betraying a hint of sadness.
"I was born in a beautiful, big, and prosperous world. From the day I hatched as a wyrmling to the day I died in my twilight, I was blessed by a great family and a civilization to love. You see, in my world, humans, dragons, elves - all of the races lived in harmony under a single banner, a civilization that survived for millions of years." She moved her eyes.
"All, until I came back to life. I was the first to ever become an Elder in that world, and I wish that I had stayed dead. Uranium, my metallic element, has several variants, each less stable than the other. When I evolved, my body was purified and perfected to the most unstable and energetic variant."
"What do you mean by unstable? An Elder Dragon is supposed to be pinnacle of that dragon’s evolution." As Alcott asked, her eyes shifted again.
"It has nothing to do with my draconic nature or power; it’s just the nature of the element itself. When I woke up, my entire body, made of that unstable metal, went critical and burst, erasing all life from my own beloved world."
Her eye shook. "But I didn’t die. I woke up in the middle of the destruction, the last life form in that world." She shifted her head. "After centuries of crying and despair, I suddenly burst again." She looked closer at Alcott. "My body is unstable, a ticking bomb that even I don’t know when it’ll explode."
Alcott gulped. "Wait... then why did you come here?"
"I went to many worlds to die, but none could kill me. I want the threat of my own existence to end, and it was then that I got wind of the Great Arad Orion, and I came to see death at his claws. If it is him, he could consume and safely get rid of my dead body."
She shifted. "That is why, Dragon Slayer. You cannot slay me, because my corpse would then irradiate this entire world of yours, killing you and everyone in it. And not, not even the Void Drakaina protecting my world could kill me. She, in fact, got so badly injured from the burst of my Elder Body that she was crippled for life."
Alcott looked at her for a second, and then pointed south. "Well... that’s... a problem. But for now, can you move to a location down south? There is a large desert down there where you could sit and wait."
"Only if you guarantee me a meeting with Arad Orion."
