The End of the Immortal Path
Chapter 588 - 321: Why Is the Old Woman Feigning Girlishness?
Chapter 588: Chapter 321: Why Is the Old Woman Feigning Girlishness?
The second part was breaking the whole into parts.
It involved dismantling and dispersing highly concentrated power, integrating it into the entire body, and then gathering it back at will. It meant understanding the operation, mobilization, and state of this power.
The third part was the unity of knowledge and action.
It was knowing every inch of skin on the Physical Body, sensing the most minute changes in power, and being able to draw upon that power at will without it ever showing.
A seamless whole: power merged with the Primordial Spirit, and the Primordial Spirit merged with the Physical Body.
Everything was transformed into a single entity, no longer merely connected.
Maintaining these states for a brief moment was easy, but sustaining them during combat was far from it. This was especially true when executing complex Magic Skills, which required the Heart Spirit to coordinate everything. Being too meticulous would cause the power to dissipate; breaking the whole into parts would make one sluggish. Let alone achieving the unity of knowledge and action.
It was akin to how easily an ordinary person could stand and maintain balance, but doing so after performing various movements was difficult. Executing various movements while walking along a cliff’s edge was even more exceptionally hard.
Jiang Man Cultivated bitterly for ten days.
By mid-January, he finally felt the pain begin to ease. At the very least, those tiny micro-tears on his body stopped appearing.
If he could refine his control even further and neutralize the impact of the excess power on his Physical Body, he could better elevate his Physical Body’s Cultivation.
As long as his Physical Body reached the Late Stage, there shouldn’t be any major issues.
Although he still couldn’t use his full strength, it was close enough.
On this day, Jiang Man went to the Outer Sect. He found Xiaopang and the others, distributed a portion of the interest to them, and asked how they were doing.
Upon confirming that they were having a somewhat hard time, Jiang Man felt relieved.
Afterward, he informed Luo Xuan about her second uncle and the recruitment matter.
For a moment, she was in a daze.
Jiang Man then explained Cultivation Methods to them.
After asking Old Chang if he wanted to rent a Spirit Sword, Jiang Man left.
Because Old Chang didn’t want to rent one.
The next day, Jiang Man went to Ji Meng’s residence, and the two walked to the courtyard together.
"Young Master Jiang, your mission has been assigned, hasn’t it?" Ji Meng asked.
Jiang Man nodded. "Yes. Originally, Miss Ji Meng was supposed to have one too, but unfortunately, this mission isn’t suitable for you."
Ji Meng nodded. "I heard from Xiaoqing that your senior sister fought for this on our behalf. She’s still in prison, and Xiaoqing visits her often. It seems she’s been a bad influence on Xiaoqing."
Jiang Man asked curiously, "Led astray by Senior Sister Yu? In what way?"
Ji Meng pondered for a moment before saying, "In the past, Xiaoqing would never suggest I wear such a short Immortal Skirt for anything."
Hearing this, Jiang Man sighed with emotion inwardly. So that was how she was being led astray.
He hoped Qing Dai would interact with Senior Sister Yu more often.
Jiang Man’s mission was set to begin on the first of February.
He would have to leave the Sect again, though he wasn’t sure when the mission would conclude.
It would probably take quite some time.
Ji Meng nodded, seemingly looking forward to his departure.
This left Jiang Man completely baffled.
However, he didn’t dwell on it.
Soon, they arrived at the courtyard.
Ji Hao reminded everyone, "There isn’t much time left until the three-year assessment. You all should have a certain level of understanding of your own Cultivation Methods by now. There is no need to constantly stay in the courtyard to receive guidance.
"Once you feel you are ready, you can go out and take on missions.
"This is especially true for those who plan to compete for the quotas in the third year."
Hearing this, the people below began to converse.
They seemed to be contemplating something.
The next day, Ji An didn’t show up. Three days later, the three members of the Bai Family didn’t show up. Five days later, Miao Yulin didn’t show up. Ten days later, Ji Shoumo’s trio bid farewell to Jiang Man and stopped coming.
Fifteen days later, on February 1st, Jiang Man also decided to head out for his mission.
Fang Yong and Wang Yan did the same.
For a moment, Mr. Yan looked at the remaining people in the courtyard in silence.
Half of the group was suddenly gone.
Qi Xi was even more bewildered; she and Ji Meng’s group were the only ones at the Primordial Spirit stage left.
Qing Dai curiously asked her why she didn’t take on a mission.
Qi Xi replied that her strength wasn’t sufficient.
She was also at the bottom of the rankings.
Qing Dai immediately leaned in and said, "Then we should be on the same side. Our rankings are right next to each other."
Qi Xi was bewildered. She wondered how that made them on the same side.
——
After bidding farewell to Ji Meng, Jiang Man left the Sect using Sword Control.
He needed to meet up with the other members of this mission.
He was the leader of this mission, accompanied by two assistants and one supervisor.
He didn’t know if any of them posed a risk.
However, things had been quite peaceful in the Sect recently.
No one came looking for trouble with him.
The three from the Bai Family were entirely focused on their Cultivation.
The same went for the wildcards like Ji An and the others.
They had all decided to first secure a quota to advance to Returning Void before circling back to target him.
Jiang Man could only admit that their reasoning was sound.
After all, the Cultivation levels of those at the top of the rankings were all quite similar. If they didn’t reach Returning Void next year, they would lose their say and effectively be eliminated.
Under these circumstances, the competition was naturally fierce. Next year would undoubtedly be the most intense period, and these people would likely resort to all sorts of methods against one another.
To his surprise, however, the person secretly poisoning people hadn’t made a move either.
He had assumed they would continue trying to lure him over to cure the poison.
Still, he couldn’t let his guard down.
The news of his departure this time was public.
It could easily be exploited by those with ulterior motives.
He intended to take a safe route, and he had even sought Ji Hao’s help.
This would maximize his chances of avoiding anyone with malicious intent.
As for traveling beyond the Sect’s territory, he had brought along a Magical Treasure.
If necessary, he could activate it to summon the combatants of the Sect to flatten the Ancient Sect.
Theoretically, this was only to be used in extreme circumstances.
First, if the opposing side consisted almost entirely of followers of the Evil God.
Second, if they all resisted desperately.
The bottom line set by the Sect wasn’t entirely unreasonable. If these people refused to join the Immortal Sect’s great governance, they had to relocate.
And for relocating, the Wuyun Sect was willing to provide a sum of Spiritual Sources.
It was not a small amount.
However, the mission objective was absolute: the scope of the Immortal Sect’s great governance had to be expanded, and no one could stand in its way.
Soon, Jiang Man met up with the other three outside the Sect.
There were two women and one man.
To his surprise, he actually recognized both of the women.
The man, however, was tall, thin, and had a cold demeanor.
Jiang Man had never seen him before.
"Senior Sister Zhuo," Jiang Man greeted softly.
"I didn’t expect you to be the person in charge this time, Senior Brother Jiang. You shouldn’t call me Senior Sister anymore," Zhuo Qingcheng said with a smile.
Beside her, Han Meixue excitedly chimed in, "Hello, Senior Brother! Are you a little disappointed that Senior Brother Long and the others didn’t come?"
Jiang Man glanced at her, not understanding what she meant.
"Alright, let’s get ready to head out. Our time is limited," the tall, cold man spoke up.
Jiang Man turned to look at him. "What is your Cultivation level, Junior Brother?"
The man replied flatly, "Regardless of my Cultivation, I am the supervisor this time. I expect you to complete the mission properly, Senior Brother. Otherwise, I will truthfully report your failures."
At this moment, Zhuo Qingcheng slipped Jiang Man a piece of paper.
Written on it was a name and some information.
He Que, Late Stage of Primordial Spirit. He had already been selected by the Main Peak and would enter the core faction once the time came.
Jiang Man nodded. He Que’s situation was similar to Senior Sister Yu’s.
He was also someone specially recruited ahead of time.
The Late Stage—he was very strong.
As for Zhuo Qingcheng and Han Meixue, one was at the Early Stage of Primordial Spirit and the other was at Golden Core Perfection.
It was already a very strong team.
Tucking the paper away, Jiang Man looked at He Que. "Do you know any Grand Techniques, Junior Brother?"
"Does that have anything to do with the mission?" He Que asked.
"A little bit, I suppose," Jiang Man replied casually.
"I am not responsible for taking action this time. Everything is essentially your job alone," He Que stated coldly.
"Let’s go, then." Unbothered, Jiang Man left using Sword Control.
However, He Que immediately called out, "You’re going in the wrong direction."
"You can choose not to come," Jiang Man responded casually as he continued to fly away on his sword.
All the authority for the mission lay with him.
Without him, the mission could not be completed. The absence of a supervisor, however, wouldn’t affect it in the slightest.
He Que frowned and immediately caught up. "Are you aware that as the supervisor, I have the right to report your reckless behavior and have all your authority reassigned?"
Jiang Man pulled out a half-gold, half-silver Token. "Do you want to try?"
Seeing this, Zhuo Qingcheng and the others were stunned.
Half-gold and half-silver represented an extremely high mission authority.
Furthermore, it signified an officially appointed status, making usurping that authority as difficult as ascending to the heavens.
Only a special individual with a special recommendation was qualified to receive such a Token.
He Que fell silent for a moment before saying coldly, "I will record this truthfully."
Jiang Man sighed with emotion. Senior Sister Yu truly was incredible.
Even Fang Yong’s Token was gold-rimmed.
It was a bit inferior to his, but it was still vastly superior to an ordinary Silver Token.
——
After Ji Meng returned from teaching her class, she asked softly, "Is everything ready?"
Qing Dai nodded immediately. "It’s ready. Now we just have to wait for the man from the Bai Family to step into the Array. Will he come?"
Ji Meng nodded. "He will. He came prepared, so he will definitely test the waters."
Soon, the two arrived at a clearing.
A powerful Array was fully manifested here.
Meanwhile.
The Bai Family Ancestor stepped out of his courtyard, deciding to take a stroll.
However, the moment he stepped out the door, he was enveloped by a surge of power.
He was forcibly teleported away.
Seeing this, he sneered, "Playing dirty tricks. This is the perfect opportunity to witness what kind of methods you have at the Primordial Spirit stage."
The next instant, the three met within the Array.
Looking at Ji Meng, Mr. Bai sneered, "Why does an old crone act like a young maiden?"
