At first, Liu Banxia thought there wouldn’t be anything else today, that as long as there wasn’t a big emergency, he could at least get some rest.
This idea could only remain an idea. For the orthopedic department’s matters, he and Chen Xuehai were incredibly busy the whole day.
And this was only the beginning, there were still many things to handle.
"Sigh... I’ve realized that doing these tasks today, I’d rather do surgeries all day than deal with this mess,"
Liu Banxia remarked during dinner.
"Teacher Liu, is management work really so hard to do?" Xu Yino curiously asked.
"It’s not just hard, the key is it’s never-ending, and you never know what will come up," Liu Banxia said.
"You have to consider every aspect, if you overlook even one thing, it might lead to big problems, and that’s when mistakes happen. Don’t you think you have to be careful?"
Xu Yino hastily nodded, "Absolutely, but only Teacher Liu could handle something like this."
"Can’t your compliments be more sincere? Why do they always sound so cheap?" Liu Banxia said helplessly.
"Haha, I’m not used to praising people often, so I never know how to do it," Xu Yino said.
"Can’t you all grow up a bit faster? So you can help ease some of my pressure. Right now, I’m really busy," Liu Banxia said.
"Just talk about today’s issues, the negotiations with orthopedics aren’t even finished. There were also a lot of emergency patients today, and now Teacher Wang and Wu Mingyu are still in surgery, we just barely started the talks."
"Teacher Liu, our emergency center has always been like this. After many trauma patients have their general or cardiac surgeries done, it’s orthopedics that takes over," Liu Yiqing said.
"Sometimes we watch for a bit, and sometimes I really think their surgeries are quite rough. But that’s the kind of work orthopedics does, there’s no choice."
"Otherwise, why do people say orthopedics is like doing carpentry work? It’s a rather special department," Liu Banxia nodded.
He’s not only watched orthopedic surgeries but has also participated in many himself.
And deep down, he’s very interested in advancing into orthopedics, even now he still reads related orthopedic books.
The skeleton isn’t like soft tissue; if you’re not a bit ’aggressive,’ it’s really tough to manage.
But to those orthopedic doctors who are used to the surgeries, it’s not a big deal. It’s just a particular situation in each field, nothing much to talk about.
After fully satisfied, Liu Banxia returned to the emergency center.
Being on duty wasn’t a new job for him, just that he now had more responsibilities, so he’s scheduled less frequently.
"Hehe, it’s really reassuring to have Director Liu on duty with us," Wang Chao said with a smile.
"What’s it got to do with me? Anyway, I won’t easily step in, I’d rather save more time for rest," Liu Banxia said.
"You’re all mature emergency doctors, so don’t be too entangled with related matters. Handle things as they should be handled, after all, I am at least a leader, right?"
"I give up, really give up. Director Liu, has your realm become so broad now?" Wang Chao asked.
"Of course, I have to learn how to be a leader, right? Even if it’s just pretending, I’m still a leader and can’t lose face for the leaders," Liu Banxia said.
This really amused Wang Chao, who was used to these kinds of jokes.
Liu Banxia is indeed a leader, he doesn’t even have to learn much, his casual nature makes it hard for people to grasp.
Though he jokes around a lot, when it comes down to serious matters, nobody dares to joke with him.
Everybody knows his character, always goes by the book. When serious matters occur, if you make mistakes, even among the ’Six Little Ones’ like Liu Yiqing and Xu Yino, you can’t expect an easy pass.
"Hang in there, after some more time, the two of you will be able to let go of the inpatient duties," Liu Banxia continued.
"This job is indeed tiring, but no matter how tiring, you have to stick it out. For us, to be fair, it’s an opportunity to amass a lot of experience, it’s not just a position."
"But it’s really exhausting, I can’t feel it anymore now," Qi Wentai commented.
"Me too, often getting up in the middle of the night. Have to make myself awake immediately, no matter the situation, I have to actively respond," Wang Chao said.
"Little by little will get better, next, let the six of them each have some practice, and then select from the newcomers," Liu Banxia said.
"Like I told them, compared to the heavy and complex management work, I’d rather toil a bit more on the front lines."
"Even if it’s tiring, it’s a time-bound fatigue, unlike now where my head has been spinning all day. So many things jumbled together, it’s truly not easy to handle."
"Gradually adapt, if being a leader were easy, there wouldn’t be so many excellent leaders," Wang Chao said with a smile.
"Actually, I just feel a bit tired, so I didn’t follow the path our Old GrandMaster planned for me. I thought hiding in the hospital would be somewhat easier."
"Who would have thought, I’m still as exhausted as a dog. Sigh... I chose the wrong door, entered the wrong profession back then, and now I don’t even have the chance to regret it."
"Are you not planning to work in politics anymore?" Qi Wentai asked curiously.
"Sigh... President Qi, speaking from the heart, if it was before I did the partial hepatectomy, I still had some thoughts about it," Wang Chao said.
"But after experiencing that success firsthand, the idea faded. This thing is addictive, once you get involved, it’s not so easy to quit."
Qi Wentai chuckled, this kind of feeling is common among every healthcare worker.
The job is about saving lives and healing the wounded; being able to relieve patients from their suffering is truly an enchanting thing.
However, his thoughts are a bit complicated now, and he’s unsure how to plan for his future career direction.
Originally, he also hoped to take on some leadership roles in the emergency center. Even if not holding as much power as Liu Banxia, even a small leadership role would do.
After all, promotion is a reflection of work capability and also a way to showcase oneself externally.
But seeing Liu Banxia exhausted today despite not having any surgery tasks, he felt a bit intimidated.
Just as Wang Chao said, being a leader isn’t easy; he doesn’t want to be a mediocre leader just passing time but wants to be someone who truly gets things done.
In a leadership position like that, within the setup of an emergency center, it really won’t be easy.
Internally, there are indeed ranks of positions, but when facing patients, everyone’s identity is the same; they are all doctors.
If it were a department with fewer patients, it might be a bit more relaxed. But with the current admission volume at the emergency center, it’s really hard to be at ease.
But these are matters for the future; he doesn’t need to worry too much about it now.
After all, in the emergency center, leadership roles aren’t just taken on so easily.
Not only does Wang Chao feel the urgency about the Six Juniors, but so does he.
The growth rate of the Six Juniors is really fast, with Liu Banxia’s careful nurturing, he feels that it’s only a matter of time before the Six Juniors surpass him.
The work tonight is fairly manageable; currently, it’s relatively relaxed.
Liu Banxia looked around, seeing that there wasn’t much for him to do, he slipped into the rest room and sent Qiaoqiao a video invitation.
"What’s up? Missing the little ones again? They’re drinking their milk right now, who knows if their appetite will increase in a few days."
Qiaoqiao said as they connected.
"Director Liu, my friend has decided to go with the method you suggested, resting for a while first, and should she need it, she’ll go for acupuncture directly," Wang Xiaoyan’s voice chimed in as well.
"Her condition is currently fine, mainly she needs to relax mentally, being too tense makes it hard for rest to be effective even." Liu Banxia said.
"Oftentimes, the recurrence of symptoms is related to mood. When the mood is good, the progression of symptoms slows down significantly, and recovery is better."
"Sigh... To be young and have such an illness, it’s hard for even the most carefree person to maintain a good mood," Qiaoqiao sighed.
"Come on, let’s not think about these problems now; our task now is to watch the babies. Let me take a look at them; I’ve been so busy all day I haven’t had time to see them," Liu Banxia said.
Qiaoqiao smiled and switched the camera over, and the two little ones were eating with gusto.
It’s uncertain if it’s because of the formula feeding, but whatever the case, they have quite a big appetite now.
"Director Liu, a patient needs your attention. A traffic accident victim just arrived with a comminuted fracture of the right tibia and fibula," at this moment, Su Wenhao came over.
"Alright, I need to attend to this,"
After saying this, Liu Banxia hung up the phone and ran towards the emergency room with Su Wenhao.
Upon reaching the emergency room, Liu Banxia saw a young man with a face covered in blood, moaning in pain. There was an irregular twist in the middle of the right tibia, and a prominent bulge on the front.
"How are the other injuries?" Liu Banxia asked while examining the tibia.
"Teacher Liu, initial checks show there’s no problem with the chest and abdominal cavities, but there are some abrasions and soft tissue injuries on the head, face, and legs. Currently, the most serious issue is the fracture in the right tibia," Li Hao said.
Liu Banxia nodded, "Get a CT scan of the head. If orthopedics is unavailable, contact the family for hospital admission. Prepare the drill; traction is necessary."
"Be sure to protect the fracture site; don’t let the bone pierce the skin. The swelling is severe now, and there isn’t time for surgery."
Everyone nodded in agreement, then suddenly realized during Liu Banxia’s inspection, he had already realigned the fracture.
