Chapter 1464: Chapter 1464: There Will Always Be People Making Snide Remarks

For a test that Liu Banxia personally asked for, of course it had to be pushed to the front.

The results weren’t surprising either: the kid’s VC level was very low—this was scurvy. Even though it’s uncommon at this age, it’s still scurvy.

Liu Banxia waited a bit, saw that the system didn’t give him any reward at all, and felt miserably troubled.

If the system had an IQ, it would despise him on top of that.

Honestly, this condition is really very easy to diagnose, and yet he’d made such a huge fuss out of it.

"Impressive, experience really is the most precious asset. Just one look and you figured out what the problem was." Walking over to Chen Hongyang’s side, Liu Banxia said with feeling.

"The situation’s different. I’ve seen a few kids with similar issues. Parents these days are too obsessed with their kids, and some don’t pay attention to the way they go about things." Chen Hongyang said with a smile.

"Anyway, the kid only has a very minor problem, that’s better than anything else. I was even wondering if it might be some kind of rheumatic immune disease—if it were, you’d have to go burn incense at the temple."

"Sigh... tell me about it." Liu Banxia said with a bitter smile.

"I was honestly scared stiff just now. The disease progressed so fast, there was pleural effusion in the chest. Every single symptom on its own was dangerous enough."

"Didn’t we end up doing tracheal intubation and putting the kid on a ventilator? It’s only thanks to the kid’s parents being reasonable—otherwise it’d be a complaint waiting to happen, and I’d have to sincerely admit I was wrong."

"That kind of thing is unavoidable. In this line of work, if you don’t get complaints every now and then, it just means you haven’t really been working." Chen Hongyang said solemnly.

"By the way, how’s the pediatric surgery plan coming along? Haven’t heard much these past few days. Weren’t people saying your presentation was really well received?"

"Who told you that? How come I haven’t heard anything?" Liu Banxia said helplessly.

"Boss Shi mentioned it today too, and I asked Xu Yino to help check on it. There’s still time, we can still give those kids some room to think—see if they really want to jump into this pit."

"Honestly, I feel really intimidated by this whole thing now. In this area, I’m a total amateur. I’m worried I’ll end up misleading the next generation and holding a whole group of people back."

"Can’t you give yourself a little confidence? I don’t think it’s a big deal. You’re still young. If you can train a ’Little Six’ team in pediatric surgery, that’d be quite an achievement." Chen Hongyang said with a laugh.

"Sigh... that’s hard. Anyone good enough will definitely go to Third Hospital; who’d be willing to come to our place?" Liu Banxia shook his head.

"Just hang in there. Once we’ve done more surgeries and built up some volume here, maybe we’ll have some pull. I’m not in a rush anymore—rushing won’t help anyway."

"Wrong, you need to think in reverse now." Chen Hongyang said.

"Third Hospital is great, sure, but how fierce is the competition there? If they come to our Emergency Center, as the first batch of pediatric surgeons trained with a special track, their benefits and pay will definitely be much better."

"I think we should keep the faith. Especially given how well you’ve done these past two years, you really never know what things will look like when the time comes."

"You’re just buttering me up. I’ve noticed you all have more confidence in me than I do." Liu Banxia was even more exasperated.

"Teacher Liu, I heard you just took on a big case? We should celebrate—doesn’t that mean we get extra dishes tomorrow?"

Just then, Xu Yino, who’d finished eating, strolled over.

"Extra dishes, extra dishes—is your whole life just about scrounging food? Do your duty on shift. I need to grab some food too." Liu Banxia glared at her, then turned back to Chen Hongyang.

"You guys were called back by me, so you didn’t eat properly, right? Let’s all go have another bite. Need to eat till we’re full—I’ll treat at lunch."

"Been waiting for you to say that." Wang Huan chimed in with a smile.

"Don’t forget to help me ask around at the college. You’re a student union officer after all—this is when you earn your keep." Liu Banxia reminded her again.

"Teacher Liu, rest assured, it’s in the bag." Xu Yino replied with a giggle.

Everyone laughed. Among the six of them, the most lively one was definitely Xu Yino.

"This Xu Yino is getting more and more unruly. Total failure in discipline." On the way to the cafeteria, Liu Banxia grumbled.

"Look at who trained her." Chen Hongyang grumbled along.

"Don’t be so petty, okay? We’re having braised pork at noon." Liu Banxia said.

Wang Huan and Peng Bo burst out laughing too; they all knew the story between the two of them back then that "just had to be told."

"Director Liu, when Wang Chao officially reports to your Second Department, that won’t affect our fecal microbiota transplantation project, right?" Wang Huan asked.

"Definitely not. I’m counting on him to dish out some results." Liu Banxia said.

"Right now our surgery department honestly doesn’t have anything particularly impressive. We do have a lot of indications for NOSES surgery, but we still need to accumulate more patients, and we don’t have much research foundation either."

"Fecal transplantation is different though. It’s developed really fast in recent years, and there’s a lot of mature experience we can draw on. Plus our emergency center’s fecal transplantation project has been going really well and has helped a lot of patients."

"To be honest, I never expected the effect would be this good. Back then it was just you sweet-talking us—I got tricked, the three of us boarded your pirate ship without you on it." Wang Huan said.

"Exactly. He didn’t want to get mixed up in it himself, then just dumped the three of us in." Wang Chao seized the chance to add.

Going one-on-one head?to?head with Liu Banxia, he still didn’t have that kind of strength for now. But chiming in on the sidelines, that he could manage.

"You really think the work is going to be easy when the time comes? There are plenty of patients being admitted to Second Division right now." Liu Banxia said.

"Anyway I’m going to be really busy next. Second Division will be handed over to you guys. Give it another five or six months, only then will those six really be able to help take some pressure off me."

"Can’t you just say ’more than half a year’? What’s wrong with that?" Wang Chao said helplessly.

"That’s different. Saying it that way, you can tell it’s counted by years. Mine is counted by months—there’s an essential difference." Liu Banxia said, dead serious.

Wang Chao ignored him, already secretly determined that he had to eat a lot more at lunch today.

With Liu Banxia footing the bill, none of them planned to save him money.

Of course, even if they really let themselves go a bit, the restaurant still wasn’t that pricey.

After all, they still had to go back to work in the afternoon; it wasn’t like eating out at a fancy place. Just roughly getting the point across was enough, no need to go all?out.

"Since we’re idle anyway, help me think about how to promote pediatric surgery." After a few bites, Liu Banxia said.

"I’ve already discussed it with the two Director Chens, but they don’t really have any good ideas either. If it’s all just selling people on it, I’m worried those kids might regret it in the future."

"This is actually hard to say, but there’s a saying that’s right—risk and opportunity always come together." Peng Bo said.

"Anyway, our Second Hospital never really had proper pediatric surgery before. Starting the preparations now isn’t late, and there’s still a lot of room for development."

"Once we have pediatric surgery, the hospital’s resources will definitely tilt a bit more toward us. Then people won’t gossip so much, like we’re taking extra advantage or something."

"Brother Huan, people actually say that?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.

"How could they not? The hospital only has so many resources in total. Over the past period, more was invested over on our side, so of course that affects the development of some departments in the inpatient area." Wang Huan said.

"That’s unavoidable. Even fingers aren’t all the same length. Our emergency center was founded not long ago; naturally we need the hospital’s support."

"You have to look at the future anyway. I think our future profitability, or the honors we help the hospital gain, definitely won’t be small."

"Since it was established till now, how many times has our emergency center been in the spotlight? Even if some departments get resources, it doesn’t mean they can actually make things happen."

"Ai... I used to worry all the time that there’d be this kind of issue. Didn’t expect that what’s bound to show up still shows up." Liu Banxia sighed.

"Honestly it doesn’t really matter. It’s all people down below talking nonsense. The department heads aren’t that narrow?minded." Wang Chao said.

"You heard about it too? Why didn’t you tell me?" Liu Banxia asked gloomily.

"It’s nothing to begin with. Why would I bother telling you?" Wang Chao shot back with a laugh.

"No matter when, you’re never short of people making snide, sour comments. If you spend all day brooding over what they say, how are you supposed to live?"

"Our emergency center doesn’t steal or rob; it was built up from nothing. Now we’ve already won so many honors, we’re bound to make people jealous."

"And what good would it do to tell you? It’s not like it could fundamentally change the problem. What we can do is keep honestly admitting and treating patients, and resuscitating one patient after another."

"Everyone says the benefits over here are good. Ask them to come over—bet they still won’t come. With the three of us here, the pressure of working here is really huge, right?"

"That’s absolutely true." Peng Bo nodded.

"The emergency center has developed too fast. We’re really holding on with difficulty right now. But it’s just these few months—if we can get through this stretch, we’ll really be on track."

"But if you want things to be easy, don’t count on it. The nature of the emergency center’s work simply doesn’t allow that. This past half?year I’ve gone home a lot less, and there’s nowhere I can vent."

This pretty much struck a chord with everyone. It might look all nice and shiny on the surface here, but who really knows the bitterness inside?

People only see the glory of the emergency center, but the hardship of working here is very real.

It’s like drinking water—only you know if it’s warm or cold.

A lot of things you only understand after you’ve gone through them yourself. Just sitting on the sidelines being sour is really useless.
