The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 265: Crazy Idea
Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Crazy Idea
Mou Shan’s assistant drove with his nerves taut the entire way. Only when Tianxin Village was left far behind did he let out a long sigh of relief.
"Brother Shan, should I take us to the hospital?"
"Keep driving. I can hold on."
"But Xiaogui..."
"Xiaogui is already dead," Mou Shan muttered. "I told him it would be a one-way trip, but he just wouldn’t listen to me. Even if I’m old, I’m not blind yet, and my judgment hasn’t deteriorated."
The assistant behind the wheel shuddered. Both of them were Mou Shan’s assistants. Whether called a team, underlings, or apprentices, they ultimately followed Mou Shan to make a living in this line of work. Yet, his partner, who had planned to carry out a solo mission tonight, was wiped out just like that! Xiaogui had even managed to get his hands on a gun! The sheer shock of it all was overwhelming.
"Brother Shan, what do we do? That guy told us... that person said we should invite experts over... Are we going to hire experts for revenge?"
Exhausted in both body and mind, Mou Shan sighed weakly. "If you have a death wish, be my guest, but I want to live. If you know any experts, go ahead and hire them, but I am thoroughly terrified of him. Find a place. We need to deal with Xiaogui’s body..."
"How would I know any experts to hire? I just can’t figure it out. Isn’t this Zhang Yun just a young man? How can he be so powerful? He... Ah—!" He suddenly screamed like a madman!
Right as he was distracted talking to Mou Shan in the back, a massive bird suddenly appeared in front of the windshield! The sudden braking brought a piercing SCREECH of tires rubbing against the asphalt. After the car stopped, both of them began to tremble.
"Did... did you see that? A big bird. Such a huge bird... This is too bizarre!"
"It’s a Crow! I told you there was a massive Crow!"
Crows always made people feel like bad luck was coming. Seeing such bizarre, oversized Crows consecutively tonight plunged the two of them into total despair. It was all fate! Was the Grim Reaper waiting to harvest their souls?
"Go... drive far away. Never come back here again..."
After Mou Shan’s departure, Zhang Yun had originally only used the Crow to tail them on a whim, wanting to test it out. He never expected that someone else was actually coming to kill him, and armed with a gun at that!
Therefore, after tossing Xiaogui’s corpse back to them, Zhang Yun continued using the Crow to follow them, perching right on the car roof to listen to their conversation. Once he confirmed that Mou Shan was truly terrified, he delivered one final scare before finally letting them leave completely.
After recalling the Crow, Zhang Yun felt that using it for reconnaissance and similar tasks yielded pretty good results. However, there was one problem: this Crow had already grown into a huge, fat Crow, making it far too conspicuous. "Should I raise a sparrow next?" he wondered. "I could get a cage to control its food intake."
By the time he returned to the wooden cabin, Ouyang Kunpeng’s call came through.
"I have already met with Liu Wanqi. Using our status as in-laws, I reasoned with him and appealed to his emotions. I also exerted pressure on behalf of the Ouyang Family..."
"Skip the pleasantries," Zhang Yun interrupted his nonsense.
Ouyang Kunpeng smiled bitterly in secret. Normally, who would dare speak to him like this? "Liu Wanqi stated that he was completely unaware of the situation and would launch an investigation. He promised that if this really happened, he would strictly discipline the people of the Liu Family, and a second occurrence would absolutely not happen."
"Do you believe that?" Zhang Yun scoffed.
Ouyang Kunpeng naturally did not believe it, but he had no choice but to believe it!
"Let’s put it this way. Qilin... died. For Liu Wanqi, it means his son-in-law died. He wouldn’t be overly grief-stricken. However, Liu Yandao dying is different—that was his biological son. His feelings on the matter are entirely different. If he took some extreme actions, it’s actually understandable..."
These words were spoken from Liu Wanqi’s perspective. Fearful that Zhang Yun might misunderstand, Ouyang Kunpeng hastily continued explaining. "But with many things, once the initial venting is over, people calm down and resolve issues through reason. I don’t believe Liu Wanqi was unaware of tonight’s operation; in fact, I’m certain he was the one who ordered it. But since it failed, and combined with my formal warning, he is bound to restrain himself."
Zhang Yun said bluntly, "Mr. Ouyang, don’t say I’m disrespecting you, but I feel your status and reputation aren’t enough to suppress Liu Wanqi."
"I think so too. However, my status and reputation can force him to reconsider carefully. If it were purely based on his personal emotions, he would have gone to war with me long ago! Yet, he has to endure it and pretend to be clueless. The same goes for your matter. He has to let it go; he cannot ignore the interests and safety of the entire Liu Family!"
Zhang Yun had long known this would be the outcome and replied perfunctorily, "Fine, I got it."
"You absolutely must not take any independent action! The situation hasn’t reached a point of no return!" Ouyang Kunpeng urged again.
"I know my limits," Zhang Yun said, then straightforwardly asked another question. "If Liu Wanqi dies, will the Liu Family fall into chaos? Can you swallow them up?"
Ouyang Kunpeng couldn’t help but tremble inwardly. He already considered himself a formidable figure with the ambitions and methods of a ruthless warlord, yet he had never thought about taking out the current patriarch of a major family that was on par with the Ouyang Family!
"Zhang Yun, let’s calm down a bit. Can we aim for a smaller target? Don’t stoop to the level of an old geezer like Liu Wanqi. I will go warn him again Ming Tian!"
Taking out Liu Wanqi was not only a crazy idea, but for an individual, it was an impossible mission. However... Ouyang Qilin’s elaborate setup and Liu Yandao’s revenge—were either of those small matters? These impossible missions had all been handled by Zhang Yun alone! He wasn’t from a major family, so he didn’t follow the rules at all and played his cards with utter unpredictability. Whoever pissed him off, he would just charge right at them for the kill. If he truly took out Liu Wanqi, the Liu Family would inevitably fall into great chaos! On one hand, there could be internal strife with people fighting for power and profit; on the other hand, with no one to suppress them, they might lash out and bite like mad dogs seeking revenge against the outside world!
For people at their level, acting required looking ahead and watching their backs; it was all about balance. Just like how Liu Wanqi knew Yandao died at the hands of Ouyang Kunpeng, yet had to pretend not to know and couldn’t seek revenge—the implications were simply too immense and there were too many scruples.
"Whatever. Thanks."
Earlier, it had been Ouyang Kunpeng who hung up first to deny Zhang Yun a chance to refuse. Now, it was Zhang Yun who directly hung up on him.
Ouyang Kunpeng couldn’t shake the feeling that Zhang Yun wouldn’t obediently stay An Jing. Even though the man was thousands of miles away and couldn’t instantly teleport over to cause trouble for Liu Wanqi, if he had set off the moment they got off the phone—or even if he departed right now—he could still arrive before dawn. Ming Tian, he could still wreak havoc! "Why am I somewhat afraid of this kid?" Ouyang Kunpeng thought.
Ouyang Kunpeng had indeed personally gone to the Liu Family, but heading back there right now wouldn’t yield any better results. He could only give Liu Wanqi a night to cool off and contact him again Ming Tian. However, just as his driver brought him home, before he could even take a shower and sleep, Liu Wanqi called him first!
"Mr. Liu! Calling me personally this late, are you..." Ouyang Kunpeng immediately became enthusiastic, assuming Liu Wanqi was about to take the out he had offered!
But Liu Wanqi aggressively cursed at him right off the bat, "Ouyang Kunpeng! Believe it or not, I will slaughter your entire family!"
Hearing this, a surge of anger rose within Ouyang Kunpeng, but he was no ordinary man and immediately restrained his emotions. When Liu Wanqi had met with him earlier, they had both put on a hypocritical pretense to deal with each other. For the man to suddenly drop all pretenses and hurl insults, something that deeply infuriated him must have occurred.
"Mr. Liu, I don’t know what you mean. After I went to visit you, I just got back home. The Ouyang Family... hasn’t shown any disrespect to the Liu Family, have we?"
