The Fantastic Little Farmer
Chapter 264: Destroyed Upon Debut
Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Destroyed Upon Debut
Looking through the Crow’s eyes, Zhang Yun saw two people running quickly toward him. They must have been calling or texting. The phone’s flashlight wasn’t very bright, but its swaying in the dark made them easy to spot.
"CAW!"
Zhang Yun opened his mouth to speak, but only the cry of a Crow came out.
"What bad luck! Such a huge Crow!" Mou Shan spat, then called out to the two approaching figures. "Over here!"
The two men quickly rushed to Mou Shan’s side.
"Brother Shan! How are you? Why are you soaking wet?"
"Is the mission complete?"
Mou Shan shook his head. "I’m injured and have lost a lot of blood. I’m very weak right now. Just take me back first."
"We’ll take turns carrying you back!"
"But... Brother Shan, if the mission isn’t complete, not only will we lose the final payment, we’ll have to return the advance. We might even have to pay out of pocket!"
"Kid! What are you saying? Brother Shan is in this state, and you’re bringing up money? Let’s go back first!"
"I’m not disrespecting Brother Shan, I mean... tell me the target’s situation. You guys withdraw first, and I’ll go finish the mission alone!"
"Kid! You’re crazy! Even Brother Shan failed, do you think you’re better than him?"
"Shut up. I’m not saying I’m better than Brother Shan. I’m going to finish the mission, and I’m going to avenge him!"
"Stop arguing, you two!" Mou Shan said sternly in a low voice. "We’re going back! The target’s strength exceeded our estimates, and he has a capable helper. Kid, if you go alone, it’s a suicide mission!"
"Brother Shan! You’ve always looked down on me! I’m not doing this for anything else today but to prove myself! I’m not saying you’re old, but we have to graduate eventually. We have to fly on our own!"
"Kid! What nonsense are you spouting!"
Mou Shan was trembling with anger. "I am old, and I’m useless! Happy now? If you want to graduate, you can leave me Ming Tian and fly solo! But I brought you guys out this time, and I have to bring you back safely!"
The Kid suddenly laughed. "Brother Shan, you’re not bringing us back now; we’re bringing you back! Don’t worry, I won’t embarrass you! I will avenge you. That bastard slashed you twice, so I’ll slash him twenty times!"
After saying that, he roared at the other man, "Stop whining! Carry Brother Shan back to the car! Wait half an hour for me!"
Mou Shan and the other man tried to talk him out of it, but the Kid pulled out a gun and held it out in front of them.
"Brother Shan! I’ll never beat you with a knife, but I think this is more efficient. This is my time to prove myself. Wait for my return!"
The Kid’s demeanor turned grim as he tucked the gun away.
Seeing this, Mou Shan realized this wasn’t an impulsive act. The Kid had been waiting for this day! If things had gone smoothly today, the Kid probably wouldn’t have been truly happy. He had been waiting for the day Mou Shan slipped up.
"Follow the valley in the back. There’s a large pond, and a small wooden cabin on the hillside nearby. The target is out there having a tryst with a woman. She’s not weak either. You... be careful!"
He had wanted to emphasize the danger, but then he remembered the Kid had a gun. Whether they were weak or not didn’t matter anymore.
The Kid gave a crooked smirk. "It’s time to show off some real skills!"
He quickly sprinted along the field ridge toward the foot of the mountain ahead.
"Let’s go!" Mou Shan said in a low voice.
He was defeated today and didn’t even have the courage to counterattack. Perhaps he really was old. If the Kid succeeded...
His feelings were complicated. It would naturally be good if the Kid could complete the mission and avenge him, but that would also definitively prove that he was no longer capable. He was old, and his aversion to using guns was an outdated notion. Nobody liked growing old!
"Wait!"
"Brother Shan, what’s wrong?"
"Did you see a Crow?"
"A Crow?"
"A Crow as big as an eagle..."
"Brother Shan, I’d better hurry up and bandage you. You’re hallucinating."
That particular Crow had already flown back to the small wooden cabin and was recalled into his Personal Space by Zhang Yun.
When Mou Shan had arrived, Zhang Yun hadn’t figured out exactly who they were and chose to observe. But now, there was no need to be polite to this guy nicknamed "Kid." He waited ahead of time behind a large tree.
While Mou Shan had approached cautiously on tiptoe, the Kid was rash and reckless. The moment he spotted the wooden cabin, he drew his gun and sprinted toward it with a fierce grin!
"BANG!"
A fist swung out from behind the tree, striking him so hard his head spun!
Zhang Yun swiftly disarmed him, snatching the gun before delivering another punch straight to his nose.
"Who? Who..." The Kid hadn’t even gotten a clear look at the figure, yet his biggest trump card—the gun—was already gone! He desperately flailed his arms in a wild counterattack, only now realizing the importance of personal strength and the flexibility of wielding a knife.
Zhang Yun kicked him in the stomach, sending him crashing to the ground.
"You’re ’Kid,’ right?"
"W-W-Who are you? How did you know?" The Kid’s eyes were already swollen shut from the beating. Combined with the dim light, he couldn’t make out Zhang Yun’s appearance at all.
"You came here to kill me?" Zhang Yun punched him in the chest.
The Kid opened his mouth but couldn’t speak, feeling as though blood was about to spew from his throat.
"With your skill level, you think you’re worthy?"
"AH!" The Kid instantly let out a bloodcurdling scream, feeling as if all ten of his fingers had just been stomped and broken!
Mou Shan was the master he followed, who had taught them to practice with knives, yet he had secretly procured a gun. But regardless of whether it was a knife or a gun, he needed his hands to wield them. With his fingers broken, his career as a killer was effectively over!
He had always just been assisting Mou Shan. Today was the first time he had forcefully fought for a chance to strike on his own. It could have been considered his official debut—the moment he would make a name for himself. Instead, he was thoroughly crippled! He had always wanted to prove himself to Mou Shan, to show he was strong enough to fly solo!
Now, everything was ruined.
"Fuck! You..." The Kid erupted with utmost resentment, but all he could do was curse. Before he could finish, an iron fist smashed down, mangling his mouth and dislocating his jaw!
Their car had already been driven along the tractor road to the edge of the fields. When the other man carried Mou Shan back into the vehicle, he immediately turned on the interior light to check his wounds.
"I’m fine... They bandaged me."
"They bandaged you?"
Mou Shan fell silent for a moment. "I didn’t escape. They chose not to kill me and let me go."
"If they’re that strong, then the Kid... I hope the gun can save his life."
"I hope so..."
"Are you talking about him?"
A strange voice suddenly rang out. Both men looked out the window, only to see a bloodied, mangled face staring back at them!
One was an assassin and the other an assassin’s assistant, so they didn’t scream, but their entire bodies began to tremble. Even though the face was a bloody mess, they instinctively realized that this was the Kid!
"Remember to take your trash with you."
As the words were spoken, the car door was yanked open, and the Kid was tossed inside, his fate unknown.
"I didn’t tell him to go... Please let us go!" Mou Shan closed his eyes and begged for mercy.
His other assistant was shocked. Brother Shan showed no hint of anger, and he was actually begging for his life! But... he himself wasn’t angry either; he only felt terror! With the opponent’s elusive, ghost-like strength, the gun-toting Kid had been utterly crushed. What else could they do but beg for mercy?
Then, they saw a face appear at the car door, wearing a strange, eerie smile.
"Go back! Lackeys like you are no fun. Please invite some real experts over; I’ll take them all down one by one."
"N-No, we wouldn’t dare. Th-Thank you for sparing our lives..." Mou Shan said. Discovering the man had already vanished, he hurriedly urged, "Drive! Let’s go!"
