Chapter 62: Chapter 62: A Big Radish Worth a Million?

Zhang Lifeng saw the suitcase and thought Ouyang Kunpeng had asked them to bring something for Zhang Yun. He never imagined it would be a suitcase full of cash!

The onlookers outside certainly hadn’t expected the driver to be carrying a suitcase full of money, either. Hearing Gu Ming’er’s exclamation, everyone craned their necks to look.

But this was Zhang Yun!

The Peach Blossom Spring Space within the Mysterious Iron Ring on his hand had brought about massive changes in all aspects of his life, including his mindset and horizons. Just last night, he had earned over a million and brought back two hundred thousand in cash.

The million in cash right in front of him only surprised him slightly; it wasn’t enough to shock him.

Dong Junwu was a bit surprised to see that Zhang Yun wasn’t astounded. He smiled and said, "This is the one million Mr. Ouyang asked me to deliver. You can count it."

There were ten thousand bills. Counting them would take a long time, and doing so would immediately make him look petty and inexperienced.

Zhang Yun gave a faint sneer. "A hundred-yuan bill weighs about 1.15 grams. A million is roughly eleven and a half kilograms. Old Zhang, weigh it for me."

Zhang Lifeng heard the displeasure in Zhang Yun’s voice and quickly smoothed things over. "There’s no need for that. Mr. Dong delivered it personally, after all."

Zhang Yun nodded. "Weighing it is fast, but the margin of error is large. If Mr. Dong slipped a hundred-yuan bill out of every bundle, the scale wouldn’t pick it up."

Dong Junwu was left speechless. He had been acting according to the plan, but he hadn’t expected to be outmaneuvered like this.

Zhang Yun teased with a half-smile, "Mr. Tom, was it? To prove your and Mr. Dong’s innocence, why don’t you two count it right here?"

"Uh... there’s no need for that." Both the driver and Dong Junwu looked embarrassed. They would rather fork out an extra thousand yuan out of their own pockets than spend the time counting ten thousand bills.

"Old Ou is playing a bit dirty," Zhang Yun said. "We agreed on a million for the ginseng. Did he deliberately use cash just to provoke a reaction out of me? If he had the guts, he’d bring a hundred million in cash in a pickup truck. Now that would shock me."

Zhang Yun stretched and said irritably, "Wait here. I’ll go get the ginseng for you!"

Zhang Lifeng had already taken something out of his bag—an exquisite long box.

"Use this to pack it. It offers better protection." He was genuinely afraid that Zhang Yun would just carry it out in a plastic bag or a woven sack, which would look far too unpresentable.

Zhang Yun was a little surprised. He hadn’t expected the old man to have thought of this for him.

"Alright! If you’re bored, you can play at counting the money with them. Ming’er, remember to pour the tea!"

With that, he headed straight upstairs. The thing was... they had brought a million in cash to his house, but he hadn’t even dug up the ginseng yet!

As the key figure of the transaction, Zhang Yun simply brushed off his sleeves and trotted upstairs, leaving behind a suitcase full of cash and a few people with complicated expressions.

Meanwhile, the spectating villagers squeezed their way from the courtyard to the doorway, peering inside. None of them had ever seen a million in cash before! They had only seen money packed in suitcases on TV.

"Is... is a big boss really paying a million to buy the ginseng Zhang Yun dug up?"

"Our area produces ginseng, don’t we know the situation? What kind of ginseng could be worth a million?"

"More money than sense, I guess! Hey... do you guys think there’s really a million there? A million should be a lot, right?"

"One bundle is a hundred thousand, right? You haven’t seen a million, but surely you’ve seen ten thousand before. It’s just a small stack. Ten of those make up a bundle about that size."

While everyone was chatting enviously, Zhang Yun entered the Peach Blossom Spring Space. He quickly dug up a ginseng root, cleaned off the dirt, and placed it in the long box Old Zhang had given him.

"Appraise it!" Coming downstairs, Zhang Yun casually tossed the box onto the table.

Although Zhang Lifeng wasn’t the one paying, he saw himself as the middleman. He was terrified that if Zhang Yun just threw together some random garbage to fool Ouyang Kunpeng, he might get implicated.

Opening the box, Zhang Lifeng carefully took out the ginseng and examined it closely.

The smell and texture convinced him the moment it touched his hands—it was genuine old mountain ginseng!

"You see, you have to take it out to look at it anyway. Making me pack it in a box was completely redundant." Zhang Yun shook his head. "Ming’er, serve the tea!"

Gu Ming’er had been overwhelmed first by Dong Junwu’s identity and then by the million in cash. Too stunned to show any attitude, she obediently poured tea for Zhang Yun.

She couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, "Just this big radish is worth a million?"

"A big radish?" Zhang Yun glared at her. "Ask everyone! Our area produces ginseng, but has anyone ever dug up a root this large and this old?"

The villagers watching the commotion from the doorway didn’t feel it was appropriate to come inside with so much cash sitting on the table. However, from just a few meters away, they could at least tell that they had never seen a ginseng of this size before.

"Miss! This is where you’re mistaken. The Bijia Mountain area behind our village used to be full of ginseng!"

"In the past, we could easily dig them up to sell, but we’ve never seen one this big."

"The past was the past; nowadays, very few are dug up. The older the ginseng, the rarer it is. It’s completely normal for a big boss to be willing to spend money on it!"

Although they were all practically drooling with envy, when talking to outsiders, they still staunchly supported Zhang Yun and the value of their local ginseng.

Dong Junwu didn’t know anything about ginseng. In fact, his boss’s instructions hadn’t focused on the ginseng at all; the key objective was the process of shocking Zhang Yun by presenting the cash.

Now that Zhang Yun completely brushed it off, there was nothing more he could do. Observing Zhang Lifeng’s attitude, he couldn’t help but ask, "Dean Zhang, is this a very old ginseng root?"

Zhang Lifeng nodded solemnly. "Yesterday, a few senior experts and I appraised two century-old ginseng roots. Six Records bought one for a million, and I bought the other..."

After laying the groundwork, the old man stated earnestly, "The age of this ginseng is definitely greater than the two I saw yesterday!"

Zhang Yun gave the old man an appreciative glance. Being unable to determine if it was a century old was simply due to a lack of a frame of reference. Now, with a comparison, he could instantly confirm that this one was much older than yesterday’s two.

Zhang Yun himself couldn’t tell at all!

"Thank you!" Dong Junwu expressed his gratitude to both of them. Unable to appraise it himself, he simply placed it in the box and handed it to Mr. Tom.

"Then we shall take our leave. We won’t disturb Mr. Zhang and Miss Gu’s tea time any longer."

Seeing Gu Ming’er looking so humble and submissive, Zhang Yun smiled faintly. "Lawyer Dong, is it convenient to add you on WeChat?"

Dong Junwu was startled but quickly smiled. "Of course, of course. I just didn’t want to presume by asking first."

Gu Ming’er stood off to the side, filled with envy! But since they were merely acquaintances, it would be inappropriate for her to ask such a favor.

Zhang Yun scanned the QR code to add him and smiled again. "I already have Mr. Ouyang and Mingruo on WeChat, so I’ll still contact them if anything comes up. Could you also let Ming’er add you? She’s a lawyer, too."

Dong Junwu looked slightly bewildered, while Gu Ming’er was deeply shocked! Zhang Yun seemed to know Lawyer Dong’s boss; did he just ask for his WeChat solely to help her?

"The young lady won’t bother you, and you don’t need to do me any favors by mentoring her. I have absolutely no relationship with her. Just adding her on WeChat and taking a photo with her is enough to make her happy."

Dong Junwu thought, "I’ll believe that when pigs fly!" The more Zhang Yun said it, the less Dong Junwu believed him. He had come here on a mission, and this was valuable intel!

He immediately smiled and presented his QR code to her. "Miss Gu, may I have the honor of adding you as a friend?"

Dong Junwu thought, "It’s a done deal! If Zhang Yun has a girlfriend, the boss won’t have to worry about him pestering Miss Mingruo." He was thrilled. By adding Gu Ming’er, he could gather information about her relationship with Zhang Yun!
