Chapter 247: Chapter 247: So It Has Been to the Mysterious Sea Area?
Cedriel and Lanton, still trying to figure out how to get Liang He to accept the fact that animals could turn into humans, failed to notice the dark shadow flashing by in the distance.
Meanwhile, Liang He, kept completely in the dark, was currently communicating with Grandma Tiger Whale about the Mysterious Sea Area.
"EEE?"
Hearing Liang He’s description, before Grandma Tiger Whale could even open her mouth, the Tiger Whale Mother—who was trying to catch a glimpse of the Little Tiger Whale by leaping out of the water nearby—responded first.
"Are you saying you’ve been to the Mysterious Sea Area?" Liang He looked at the Tiger Whale Mother in surprise. Its response confirmed one thing for her: the Mysterious Sea Area didn’t affect animals.
"EEE! EEE!"
The Tiger Whale Mother nodded vigorously and went on to recount its experience in the Mysterious Sea Area. It had been pregnant with the Little Tiger Whale at the time and had wandered into the area while chasing a seal.
"Wait, you were pregnant with the Little Tiger Whale back then?" Liang He seemed to have caught the keyword.
She might just know why the Tiger Whale Mother was poisoned, and why the Little Tiger Whale brought the poison out of its body. Just as they had previously guessed, the mother was poisoned, but the toxins were entirely absorbed by the fetus.
"Eee~ Eee?" The Tiger Whale Mother didn’t understand why Liang He had such an expression and tone, looking at her in innocent confusion.
Liang He, who had already decided to keep this matter a secret, didn’t explain much. She simply smiled gently, encouraging it to continue. "I just think you are very brave, and also very lucky."
The fact that the Tiger Whale Mother made it out of the Mysterious Sea Area alive was proof enough of its bravery and luck. And the fact that it disregarded its own well-being to constantly support the Little Tiger Whale, keeping the hope of life alive until human rescue finally arrived, was equally a testament to its bravery and luck.
"Eee~"
Ever since it learned the Little Tiger Whale could be saved, the Tiger Whale Mother had become much livelier. Hearing Liang He’s praise, it happily nodded, wagged its tail, and even performed a few leaps, nearly drenching Liang He with a huge splash of water.
"Alright, can you tell me exactly what’s inside the Mysterious Sea Area?"
Since the Tiger Whale Mother had been to the Mysterious Sea Area, the disaster Grandma Tiger Whale mentioned earlier might refer to the hidden dangers lurking within it. But looking at Grandma Tiger Whale’s reaction, it seemed she hadn’t gotten the information from the Tiger Whale Mother.
"EEE! EEE!"
"Blackness... fear..."
Liang He analyzed the Tiger Whale Mother’s words, her brows furrowed tightly. Its description was actually almost identical to what Leila had said earlier. So, could it be that animals could only enter and exit freely, but in reality, they couldn’t see anything either?
"How did you leave that area of the sea?" Liang He wanted to confirm if Leila’s description of moving involuntarily—as if invisible hands had pushed them into the sea—also applied to animals.
"Eee~"
It was the sound of a companion. To be precise, it was the Little Tiger Whale’s father calling out to it at the time. Killer Whales had a very rich language system, forming their own unique style of vocal communication; even the dialects of different Killer Whale pods varied significantly.
"So, you followed your companion’s voice to find your way?"
Looking at it this way, animal consciousness indeed wasn’t like human consciousness; it wasn’t affected by the Mysterious Sea Area. Or perhaps it was because the submarine Leila and the others were riding in was being pushed forward in the darkness by some sort of creature, leading to her illusion. And the force generated when Goring and the others pulled the submarine back was stronger than the creatures hidden in the dark, which was why they successfully returned to the Sea Ship.
"Eee~"
The Tiger Whale Mother nodded again, obediently swimming around Liang He as if trying to curry favor with her so it could board the Sea Ship and see its child.
"Be good. It’s not that I won’t let you see the Little Tiger Whale, but mainly because your tonnage is just too big. There really isn’t any space for you to stay on the Sea Ship."
Besides, Killer Whales couldn’t leave the water. They could still figure out a way to get a fish tank for the Little Tiger Whale, but it was absolutely impossible for an adult Killer Whale. Even though female Killer Whales were half the size of males, it still wouldn’t work.
"Eee..."
Rejected, the Tiger Whale Mother sank into the seawater, somewhat disappointed.
Liang He didn’t have time to comfort it. After greeting Grandma Tiger Whale and the Tiger Whale Baby, she prepared to head back. "I’ll have the sailors set up lights to attract small fish for you. Remember to catch the fish yourselves to eat when the time comes."
Big fish ate little fish, and little fish ate shrimp. To some extent, Liang He still respected the food chain, so she didn’t have any bleeding-heart thoughts about small fish not deserving to be eaten.
Upon returning to the Sea Ship, Liang He asked the sailors to help attract small fish for the Killer Whales before heading back to the lounge. At this moment, everyone was inside discussing their next course of action.
"Liang He, how did it go? Do you have any new discoveries?"
The one who paid the most attention to this matter was undoubtedly Ao Ke; after all, his brothers had been "eaten" by the Mysterious Sea Area. As long as there was any hope of rescuing them, he would definitely try his best.
"I just got some information from the Tiger Whale Mother." Liang He plainly relayed the information she had gathered without adding any of her own subjective interpretations. She didn’t want everyone to follow her train of thought right from the start; if she happened to be wrong, it would easily mislead them all.
"So, even though the Mysterious Sea Area doesn’t stop animals from entering and leaving, it poisons them?" Huo An’s expression turned a bit gloomy as a terrible thought suddenly crossed his mind. "Could this be a new method the Rebel Army is using to develop Fierce Beasts?"
No one could guarantee whether the Little Tiger Whale, as the poisoning deepened, might one day suddenly turn into a Fierce Beast. And if, apart from it, a steady stream of animals also fell victim to this poison, then when the toxins collectively erupted, the defenseless Goring and the others would be reduced to their next meal.
The Skalan Star would fall completely. Given time, the ocean would turn into a Purgatory, swallowing up all humans and animals.
"We can’t rule out that possibility." In fact, Liang He shared Huo An’s thoughts, but she had been afraid she was overthinking things, so she hadn’t voiced them first.
"Damn it! This really is a conspiracy by the Rebel Army!"
The moment the Rebel Army was mentioned, Leila’s radar went off. She slammed her hand onto the table in anger. If the tables on the Sea Ship weren’t of such good quality, they probably wouldn’t have been able to withstand her strikes and would have fallen apart sooner or later.
"Then what should we do now?" Goring was extremely anxious. If the Skalan Star really fell and became the Rebel Army’s territory for developing a Fierce Beast Army, then his career would be well and truly over.
"Since animals can freely enter and exit the Mysterious Sea Area, could our previous failed exploration have something to do with riding the submarine?"
Happily, Leila and Liang He were on the same page.
"I also suspect that in places we can’t see, some kind of creature was pushing the submarine deeper into the Mysterious Sea Area," Liang He added.
Hearing Liang He say this, everyone realized she had been holding back earlier. However, after thinking about it carefully, they could all understand her intentions.
"So, you want to dive directly into the Mysterious Sea Area to investigate?" Ao Ke quickly caught on to their idea.
As soon as he said this, before Liang He could even speak, Deputy Governor Goring was the first to voice his disagreement.
"No, that’s too dangerous! What if something happens?!"
