Chapter 322: Chapter 322

Chenyang frowned and asked, "What’s the latest on that situation?"

Liu Yun sighed and explained, "While you were gone, someone released pictures and videos online of you taking advantage of women and taking things from people.

Then, someone else exposed the fact that you don’t have a medical license. Once these stories started blowing up, the number of people online condemning and cursing you more than tripled.

Out of more than twenty trending topics on our local forums and short-video platforms, at least five are about you.

To make matters worse, just ten minutes or so ago, the victims you saved from the car accident also came forward to testify that you did in fact steal their belongings and take advantage of them.

With testimony from the people involved, the public outcry is even more terrifying. The backlash has already spilled over from the internet into the real world. The dean was urgently summoned for a meeting with the authorities, and some people—whether they’re Lin Jiji’s fans or just others who hate you—have already shown up at the hospital."

After processing the news, Chenyang said, "Just as I suspected, Lin Jiji is the one fanning the flames behind all of this.

A public outcry this huge had to be stoked by his fans. As for the victims who testified against me, they were probably bribed."

Liu Yun said, "That’s what I figured. As for those photos and videos of you taking advantage of people and of you hitting and cursing Lin Jiji—I had a professional look at them. They’re all fakes, photoshopped.

But it’s no use just us knowing that. People online have already been brainwashed by the narrative; they won’t listen to any explanation from the few of us.

Also, I went to talk to the victims who testified against you. They insisted they hadn’t been bribed. Liu Qian and I are thinking they must have gotten a huge payout to be this adamant, so... should we try paying them to change their story?"

"No, absolutely not!" Chenyang immediately cut her off. "They’ve already been paid off once, and they just testified online. If we go and pay them to change their story now, not only will no one believe them, but it will make the whole thing look even fishier.

More importantly, we can’t be sure if Lin Jiji has people monitoring them. If he does, then when you go to bribe them, his people will record it.

Then they’ll post that online, and even if we were innocent before, we’ll look like the guilty ones. The public backlash will be even worse."

On second thought, Liu Yun said, "You’re right. Liu Qian and I were being too naive. But we can’t just sit back and do nothing, can we?"

Chenyang narrowed his eyes in thought. "You’re right, we can’t just do nothing. But we can’t act rashly, either. This is a trap Lin Jiji deliberately set for me as revenge.

It’s full of pitfalls. If we make a rash move, not only will it be ineffective, but we’ll likely fall into another one of his traps."

"Then what should we do?"

"Sister Liu, when was the dean summoned for that meeting?"

"A little over half an hour ago."

"So the meeting should be ending soon, right?"

Liu Yun nodded. "Just about. These urgent meetings usually don’t last more than an hour. A little while ago, Vice Dean Kang ordered us to find you and bring you back at all costs. Being summoned for a meeting like that means the situation has reached a critical point where it must be resolved immediately.

The dean can’t withstand the pressure from the authorities. He’ll inevitably come back right after his meeting to hold a conference and decide how to resolve this issue as quickly and with as little fallout as possible.

That means we don’t have much time. We have to come up with a counter-plan right away, or the dean really might throw you under the bus as a scapegoat to protect the hospital’s interests."

Chenyang’s voice was grave. "Then there’s absolutely no way I can go back now. If I stay out here, I can at least stall for time and figure something out. If I go back now, I could be made the scapegoat at any moment!"

Liu Yun frowned. "That’s true, but it’s dangerous for you to stay out there. I just asked some well-connected friends to make some inquiries. Lin Jiji’s fans, and even some underworld types, have already started looking for you."

Chenyang mulled it over for a moment. "If they’re looking for me, the hospital is the first place they’ll check. For now, I’ll actually be safer out here as long as I keep a low profile.

Besides, I think I’ve just come up with a potential solution, but I’ll need your help. And what I need you to do might be a little difficult."

Liu Yun answered without a second thought, "I’m not afraid of ’difficult.’ As long as it can solve all this infuriating crap, just tell me what to do. If I can do it, I will. If I can’t, I’ll find a way to get it done for you."
