The Fragrance of My Hot Patients
Chapter 392
Although Brother Wei was a low-level gang leader, he’d been running the streets for years and knew how to read people and situations.
He knew very well that a city’s police chief was no ordinary figure. In terms of fame, influence, and sheer intimidation, they carried more weight than your average deputy mayor.
In the eyes of the average person, they could even be considered the city’s third most powerful figure.
No one dared to casually offend a leader of this caliber, let alone randomly claim to be their relative.
It was no exaggeration to say that if you got caught posing as a deputy mayor’s relative, you’d get a lecture at most. But if you got caught posing as the police chief’s relative, you could bet you’d be in for a beating.
From her demeanor and the way she spoke, it was clear that the Yan Rongrong standing before him was no ordinary person.
Besides, the surname “Yan” was rare in Yang City. An uninformed person wouldn’t even think to use that name, and they certainly couldn’t fake the unique aura of a police chief’s daughter.
So, Brother Wei believed her identity almost without a second thought.
As both Yan Rongrong and Chenyang looked at him, he quickly whispered the secret he knew.
After he finished speaking, Yan Rongrong and Chenyang exchanged a look, then asked in unison, “Is what you’re saying true?”
Brother Wei held three fingers over his head. “If a single word is a lie, I hope I get hit by a car and die the second I step outside.”
“He’s such a glamorous celebrity. He’s already made a fortune and has tons of fans. You’d think he’d be content. Why would he do something like this?”
“That, I don’t know.”
Chenyang narrowed his eyes. “It’s not that hard to figure out, actually. Beyond all the glitz and glamor, celebrities are exposed to a lot more than we are. They see a lot more, and that means they face a lot more temptation.”
“Most ordinary people can’t handle much temptation, so it stands to reason that people who are constantly surrounded by it would find it difficult to resist.”
Yan Rongrong pursed her lips. “If these two things Brother Wei told us get out, that celebrity Lin Jiji won’t just be disgraced—he’ll rot in prison.”
Chenyang gave a teasing smile. “What’s this? You sound a little sympathetic toward him.”
Yan Rongrong rolled her eyes. “Sympathetic my ass! To me, he’s nothing but human garbage. Forget about what Brother Wei just told us. For what he did to Xiaoyue alone, I want to rip his head off and shove it down a toilet.”
“Hahaha.” Chenyang grinned. “All right. With help from your friend and Xiaoyue, plus this secret from Brother Wei, Lin Jiji’s fate is sealed. He’s finished. Now, let’s go join him for his last hurrah.”
Yan Rongrong nodded slightly. As she and Chenyang started walking, she glanced at Brother Wei and asked curiously, “The streets of Yang City have gotten much safer these past few years. A lot of guys who used to be in your line of work have gone straight and found new careers. Why are you still at it?”
Brother Wei gave a wry smile. “The only ones who can go straight are those with connections. The only ones who can successfully switch careers are those who already made a killing in the gray market.
“But me? I’m just a nobody at the bottom of the food chain. I don’t have the education to get a high-paying corporate job. I tried starting a small business, but people were constantly causing trouble and squeezing me out. In the end, I ran out of options, so I ended up on the streets.”
“But don’t you worry, ma’am. We don’t do anything truly evil. Mostly we just help collect debts and sort out minor disputes.”
Brother Wei was clearly saying this because he was worried Yan Rongrong would have her police chief father arrest him later.
Yan Rongrong shot him a look. “Don’t be so nervous, I’m just making conversation. I said I wouldn’t have you arrested, and I’m not one to go back on my word.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Are there many guys like you still on the streets in Yang City? How big is your crew?”
“There are plenty of low-level thugs, most of them just drifting without any real backing. As for me… I’ve got eleven guys who work for me regularly. You just met six of them; the others went to the countryside to collect a debt.”
Brother Wei paused. “Why do you suddenly ask?”
Yan Rongrong said, “A friend of mine is getting ready to open a bar and needs some people for security. He was going to hire from my security company, but he complained my rates were too high.
“The main thing is, he’s got enough of a reputation and influence that he doesn’t need to hire top-tier fighters. It would be overkill, so he doesn’t want to spend too much money on it.”
Chenyang laughed. “So, to put it bluntly, no one would dare to start any real trouble at his bar, but he still can’t stop the occasional drunk from getting rowdy or things getting a little disorderly. So he just needs a few guys to help keep things in line?”
“Exactly.”
Yan Rongrong nodded, glancing at Brother Wei and his men. “These guys… their skills might not be much, but they definitely look intimidating. I think they might be a good fit for my friend’s place.”
“Then please, put in a good word for us! If we can work for a boss who can afford to open his own bar, we won’t have to worry about how we’re going to get by every day.”
“After we finish up here, I’ll ask him for you. If he agrees, you guys can go work for him.”
“Thank you, Miss Yan.”
